-They showed an aerial shot of the arena as Vic Joseph introduced the show with Corey Graves. They showed the arivals of Cody Rhodes, R-Truth, Damien Priest, and Alexa Bliss & Tatum Paxley.
-Sami Zayn, Johnny Gargano, and Candice LaRae made their way to the ring to Sami’s music. They went to Joseph and Graves at ringside. (No reference by Joseph regarding why he was filling in for the usual Michael Cole.) Sami asked Sacramento, Calif. He said all of the vultures circling over him in recent weeks got what they deserved. He said at Money in the Bank, Trick Williams came up short. He said CM Punk and Kevin Owens came up short, just I predicted. He said he wouldn’t mention CM Punk. He told Penta to focus his energy on Roman Reigns. He said he understands he has a personal issue with Reigns and he should focus on that.
He said in a few weeks, he’ll be facing Reigns at Crown Jewel. (No mention of where, since that is up in the air due to events in that region.) He said he had a lot to say about Reigns, but out of respect he’d save it for when they’re face to face. Trick’s music interrupted and he made his way out as fans chanted, “Whoop that Trick!” Graves said Trick won’t take kindly to being referred to as a vulture. Graves said Lil Yachty was at home recovering after what happened to him last Saturday.
Sami called for his music to stop. Fans kept chanting. Trick said, “What’s up gingivitis.” He said apparently Sami has made hit personal. He said he can’t stand it because every time he sees Trick, it reminds him of fans turning on him and what happened at WrestleMania. He said he’s “a real superstar.” He said he doesn’t care about Sami or his “ride or die fans,” but because he disrespected him two weeks ago, he’s going to beat his ass. Sami said, “I’m sorry, you think I disrespected you?”
Sami said Trick turns everything into a joke because he doesn’t get it. He said he doesn’t have it, but he thinks he does. He said he doesn’t know when it’s time to joke and when it’s time to get serious. He said he thrives in the chaos of the moment. He said he always finds a way to survive. He said Trick lacks survival skills to survive in his jungle. “I taste the electricity on my tongue and always find a way to survive,” he said.
Trick asked Samni with as serious a tone as he’s ever had, “Do I look like I’m freakin’ joking, Sami?” Sami took a step back. He asked Sami between them who looks like a joke. He said tonight he’s done talking. He said if Sami is as bad as he says he is, take a swing and see what happens.
Johnny Gargano stepped between them and took the mic and said that’s the WWE Champ he is disrespecting. He said he has been handed opportunities that they would kill for. He asked if he knows what they’ve been through. He said Trick has the swag, the entrance, and he has “it,” but he doesn’t have the WWE Title. “Until you do, you will show us the respect we deserve.” He said they don’t call him Johnny Entrance, they call him Johnny Freakin’ Wrestling for a reason.
Trick said he works as hard as anyone, so how about they skip more talking and wrestle. Sami said, “You’re on.” Gargano nodded. [c]
(1) TRICK WILLIAMS vs. JOHNNY GARGANO (w/Candice LeRae)
The match was joined in progress 17 minutes into the hour. Joseph applauded Sami for being at Smackdown after wrestling in a WWE live event the previous night in Winnipeg. Gargano rolled to ringside at 3:00. Trick pursued him and rammed him into the announce desk. Sami distracted Trick briefly. Gagano then yanked Trick by his leg into the ropes with a Dragon Screw. Trick fell to ringside. Gargano kicked him and dove through the ropes and knocked him into the announce desk. Sami stood and hugged Gargano as they cut to a double-box break at 4:00. [c/db]
Trick rallied after the break and gave Gargano a flapjack onto his shoulder. Trick looked at his hand and then slapped Gargano hard. Trick stomped Gargano. to the beat of “Whoop that Trick!” Gargano surprised Trick with a sunset flip for a two count. Trick came back with a big boot and a Michinoku Driver for a two count. LeRae distracted Trick. Gargano rolled him up from behind and yanked on his tights for a two count.
Gargano landed a tornado DDT off the second rope for a two count. Trick caught Gargano mid-air with a Trick Shot and then a Book End for the win.
WINNER: Trick in around 12:00.
