SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
They say, “looks aren’t everything,” but physical appearance counts for a lot. Looks play a major role in determining and reinforcing social status. We unconsciously believe attractive individuals to be more intelligent, persuasive, trustworthy, and skilled, even when lacking any objective evidence.
In the image-is-reality world of professional wrestling, looks are even more important.
The Airport Test is a concept attributed to former WWE head Vince McMahon, though it has long been used by promoters, talent scouts, and wrestling veterans. It is a traditional evaluation of whether a wrestler possesses a larger-than-life presence that naturally turns heads.
It poses a simple hypothetical question: If this wrestler walks through a crowded airport in plain civilian clothes, do regular people turn their heads, stop and stare, or ask, “Who is that?”
The Airport Test is one way of gauging whether a wrestler possesses “The It Factor”: a combination of physical presence, size, and marketability. Archetypal tough guys like Goldberg, massive behemoths like Andre the Giant and The Undertaker, and hyper-muscular freaks of nature like Brock Lesnar and Batista are classic examples of wrestlers who pass this standard with flying colors.
What about today’s performers?
Rising Star of the Week: Jade Cargill
Standing nearly six feet tall with the physical conditioning of a bodybuilder, iconic platinum-blonde hair, natural beauty, and commanding confidence, Cargill is the epitome of a striking look. The fact that she uses a wig takes nothing away from her undeniable star presence.
She looks like a Greek goddess and undoubtedly turns heads instantly in public. Onlookers may not know who she is, but they instantly recognize that she is someone important.
Cargill may not be a top ring performer, but she certainly looks great on a promotional poster.
Runner-up: Oba Femi
Oba’s remarkable appearance is the trait that most sets him apart from his peers. One of the most physically imposing stars ever to emerge from NXT onto the main roster, Oba Femi stands roughly 6-4 and is blessed with a massively muscular frame without appearing muscle-bound or slow—reminiscent of Brock Lesnar or Bobby Lashley rather than Hulk Hogan.
Oba has a broad, strong jawline and a prominent forehead, giving his face a solid, sculpted look that complements his mighty frame. “The Ruler” maintains an intense, unblinking focus, which projects unshakable confidence. He looks every bit the warrior-king character he portrays, making him the quintessential embodiment of a wrestling champion.
Second Runner-Up: Roman Reigns
Standing 6-3 with superhero proportions, long dark hair, movie-star good looks, and a commanding presence, Reigns naturally draws eyes wherever he goes.
It was Reigns’s remarkable look that caused Vince McMahon to push him as WWE’s lead babyface in 2015 despite early fan rejection.
Those looks continue to serve Reigns well today, landing him the role of Akuma, the final antagonist in the 2026 “Street Fighter” film. Little acting was required of Reigns for the part; he mostly had to look menacing and threaten the heroes.
The OTC looks good. Acknowledge it.
Honorable Mention: Rhea Ripley

Fading Star of the Week: Sami Zayn
Sami Zayn’s physical presence is wholly unremarkable. He stands over 6 feet tall, yet somehow seems shorter. His average physical build does nothing to suggest an elite professional athlete, much less a fighter. Outside of his ring gear, Zayn blends seamlessly into a gathering of fans or a crowded airport terminal.
First Runner-Up: Lyra Valkyria
At around 5-3 with a modest profile and girl-next-door looks, Lyra Valkyria easily passes for an average passenger at the airport. It’s unfortunate that WWE is deliberately leaning into her unremarkable appearance by having her dispense with makeup and her flamboyant “bird-lady” costumes in her current heel iteration. This humiliating presentation is strikingly reminiscent of Baron Corbin’s pathetic “Bum-Ass Corbin” phase, which preceded his demotion and disappearance from the main roster. A talented technician like Valkyria deserves far better.
Second Runner-Up: Dominik Mysterio
Although his mustache and mullet are instantly recognizable, Mysterio looks more like a gas station attendant or a petty drug dealer than a professional wrestler. His thin frame lacks significant musculature, making him seem far smaller than his actual six-foot height. Outside of arenas, dressed in oversized T-shirts, hoodies, and cargo pants, Mysterio blends in completely.
Mysterio may not look like much, but at least he makes up for it with exciting ring work. Oh, wait…
