[HOUR ONE]
-After the Dynamite opening theme aired, they cut to a wide shot of the arena as Excalibur introduced the show. Excalibur previewed key matches and segments. Then they cut to Josh Alexander vs. Kota Ibushi with Ibushi suffering an injury and then a post-match angle with Kenny Omega and Jack Perry making the save. A clip aired of Perry talking with Omega backstage about how they share some of the same enemies, so they should team together on Dynamite.
From there, Tony Schiavone said The Young Bucks would face Jurassic Express at WrestleDream, but Omega would join Perry & Luchasaurus in a six-man tag match tonight. They continued plugging scheduled matches and segments for this show. Excalibur got tripped up a bit a few times differentiating between plugging the TV matches and PPV matches, it seemed.
-Renee Paquette conducted a sitdown interview with Toni Storm and Kris Statlander. Storm and then Statlander took off their jackets. Renee got frustrated and yanked her jacket off too. She said she just wants to hear about their mindset. Storm said she is ready to take the AEW Title back from a woman she admires. “I don’t know who I am without that title, but darling, who are you?” Storm asked.
Statlander said she is a culmination of everything she was before. She said she is already different than the person she faced at All Out. She said she is the champion of the world they live in together. She said she is an extraordinary being who will outlive her doubters with her determination, her grit, and her ability. She said she will give Storm “the rest she so deeply deserves.”
Storm stood and got in Stat’s face and said they will find out the truth at WrestleDream. Stat stood and said she already knows the truth, she just has to accept it. Storm asked if the interview was over. Renee said it is. Storm then told them to meet her in the ring. An exasperated Renee asked, “Can someone get me my jacket, please?”
-They went to Excalibur, Schiavone, and Danielson at ringside. Excalibur said the Stat-Storm match is scheduled for Saturday, but it might happen tonight.
-Storm and Stat entered the ring and started to fight, but without a referee or a bell. Stat shoved her belt at Storm and then dropped to her knees and dared her to hit her with the belt. Danielson said he liked that strategy. “Make her do it!” he said. (Why would Danielson like the idea of someone getting hit in the head with a title belt?) Stat instead kissed Storm on the forehead. Storm eyed Stat as she was leaving the ring.
(Keller’s Analysis: Stat’s acting remains rough. It looked with the camera angle on her long speech in the middle that she might’ve been reading cue cards or something. Either way, it felt very memorized. The angle in the ring was weird, as was Danielson oddly “liking” the idea of Stat letting Storm hit her in the head with the belt.)
-Backstage, Jack Perry said regarding The Young Buck that he doesn’t hate them. He said he loves them and will always be grateful for everything they did for him, but when he needed them the most, they didn’t pick up the phone or have his back. He said that’s why he looked deep into his past and reunited with Luchasaurus.
(1) GATES OF AGONY (Bishop Kaun & Tao Liona w/Ricochet) vs. HURT SYNDICATE (Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin w/MVP)
Clips aired of last week’s fight with these wrestlers as GOA made their entrance. Then Hurt Syndicate came out. Excalibur plugged a six-man tag rematch with these two factions at WrestleDream. Excalibur built up MVP’s experience and combat arts background as an asset in the match even after MVP recently said his better days are behind him in the ring.
The bell rang 13 minutes into the hour. When Lashley tagged in at 1:00, fans chanted, “Bobby! Bobby!” Lashley clotheslined Liona over the top rope to the floor. Then he battled Kaun on the ring apron. Liona gave Lashley a Samoan Drop off the ring apron. They cut to a double-box break at 3:00. [c/db]
Back from the break, GOA were still in control. Shelton tagged in. He knocked Ricochet off the ring apron with a high knee. At ringside, Liona and Lashley charged at each other and collided with clotheslines. In the ring, Shelton tossed Kaun off the top rope. As the ref got rid of MVP’s cane that ended up ring when MVP dropped it while fending off Ricochet at ringside, Ricochet entered the ring and gave Shelton his Spirit Gun. The director missed MVP hitting Ricochet at ringside with his cane. Meanwhile, Kaun covered and scored a three count on Shelton for the win. Schiavone said it was the first time Hurt Syndicate have ever been in pinned in AEW.
WINNERS: GOA in 10:00.
-A clip aired of Darby Allin at the New York Comic Con jumping Jon Moxley at a Q&A.
-They went to the announcers at ringside. Excalibur noted they had to be separated by security. Danielson said he doesn’t condone what Darby and Mox have been doing in recent months. Excalibur threw to “one last face to face” at “an undisclosed location” with Darby and Mox.
-Mox and Darby spoke to each other with a glass window between them like in a prison where family or friends speak with a prisoner. Mox told Darby that Darby says he will never quit, but he certainly will never quit either. “So what are we going to do, man?” he said. “I’m out of ideas. How is this going to end?” He told Darby it’s not too late to be on the right side of history. Darby said every day he thinks about joining The Death Riders, but he doesn’t respect Mox. He said he saw what he did to Danielson. “Why would I want to go to war with somebody who stabbed his brother in the back?” he said.
Mox said he did the best he could for Danielson. He said this is about the future of the craft “and sacrifices need to be made, hard decisions have to be made.” Darby said when he was on top of Mt. Everest and held the AEW flag, he said AEW represents freedom. He said Mox is chipping away at “everything that makes this place special.” He said all of the Death Riders who blindly follow him will see his word doesn’t mean a thing and his organization is going to fall apart.
Mox said he has never lied to Darby. He said his opponent isn’t him and it never is. He said every time Darby climbs a mountain or jumps off the top of a building or shoot himself out of cannon, he is fighting ghosts, demons, his past. He said that’s not his business. He said he follows a lot of ghosts and it never ends well. He said he is trying to prove to the world he is indestructible, but that is a selfish game. He said the biggest difference between them is that “this is not about me.” Pac then jumped Darby from behind as Mox watched through the glass. Pac shoved Darby’s bloody forehead against the glass as he coughed and gasped.
(Keller’s Analysis: That was tremendous. The mood and the intensity made the match feel must-see.)
-Excalibur said Mox and The Death Riders were one step ahead of Darby. They showed Moxley, Marina Shafir, and Pac walking outside the arena.
(2) CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI vs. RODERICK STRONG
Danielson said it was disheartening to hear his name invoked as a reason the Darby-Mox match reached this level. Claudio entered first. Then Strong’s entrance took place. The bell rang 37 minutes into the hour. Danielson talked about these two being former ROH World Champions and former tag champions. He talked about Strong’s strategy. Storm dropped Claudio on the ring apron and then went for a wrecking ball kick. Claudio blocked him and then swung him into the ringside barricade as they cut to a double-box break at 5:00. [c/db]
Strong and Claudio battled in the corner on the second rope. Strong dropped Claudio over the top rope. Schiavone said they have seen how dangerous it is up there, citing what happened to Ibushi last week on Collision. Claudio caught a charging Strong and gave him a lift-and-drop European Uppercut for a sudden three count. Schiavone said it was win no. 100 for Claudio in AEW. Excalibur said it was noteworthy Claudio won without The Death Riders getting involved. Danielson said it is rare that happens.
WINNER: Claudio in 12:00.
-A segment aired with Don Callis entering a room where his wrestlers threw him a birthday party. He said they are growing their family for one reason – power. He said to protect their interests, he is prepared to do whatever it takes to get what the family needs. “That is my promise and my gift to each and every one of you,” he said. Kyle Fletcher stood and revealed a video message from Konosuke Takeshita. He wished Callis a happy birthday. He thanked him for doing so much for him. He said he won the IWGP Title for the Family. The screen went blank suddenly. Okada “hit a wrong button” on the remote and cut it short, but he clearly didn’t like hearing Takeshita talk about winning the title. They all stood and toasted each other.
-Highlights aired of Takeshita beating Zack Sabre Jr. to win the IWGP Title.
-Callis interrupted Justin Roberts beginning ring introductions. They showed a Don Callis look-alike in the crowd. [c]
[HOUR TWO]
(3) JOSH ALEXANDER & HECHICERO & MARK DAVIS (w/Don Callis) vs. KENNY OMEGA & JURASSIC EXPRESS (Jack Perry & Luchasaurus)
Excalibur said Ibushi had successful surgery and now he begins his recovery. Callis said he sent Ibushi a message that there will be a place for him in the Don Callis Family. The bell rang 2 minutes into the second hour.
Excalibur said Omega doesn’t fully trust Perry. Danielson said Perry helped the Bucks attack Omega and knock him out of action for a year. Omega limped after Hechicero focused on his leg. Omega flung himself onto Hechicero at ringside. Alexander threatened Omega, so Alexander ran. Davis then clotheslined Omega at ringside. The heels isolated Omega in the corner. Callis bragged of having “a family of 25 people.”
Omega caught Alexander with an elbow and tagged in Perry. Danielson said he doesn’t blame Omega for not necessarily trusting Perry, either. Davis knocked Perry to the floor and they cut to a double-box break. [c/db]
Alexander had Perry in an anklelock in the ring as the rest fought at ringside. Omega slow-walked into position to get a tag. Perry tagged him. Omega went on the attack and scored a near fall after a moonsault. Callis said Omega was looking like the Kenny Omega of old. Alexander countered and landed a German suplex.
Luchasaurus and Davis tagged in against each other next at 11:00. Davis eventually went for a lariat against Omega, but Perry shoved Omega out of the path and ate the lariat instead. Omega then chopped away at Davis’s chest. Davis countered with an enzuigiri and a stuff piledriver for a near fall. Luchasaurus chokeslammed Alexander onto Hechicero to break an armbar on Omega. Perry leaped off the top rope and clotheslined Hechicero off of Luchasaurus’s shoulders. Perry scored the three count.
Schiavone said Perry proved himself to Omega in that match. Excalibur said they shared a glance during the celebration.
WINNERS: Perry & Luchasaurus & Omega in 14:00.
-The Bucks ran out to the ring and stereo superkicked Luchasaurus and then Perry. Omega stood at ringside and watched, then entered the ring. He got in the faces of Matt and Nick. Luchasaurus clotheslined the Bucks. Perry leaped off the top rope with a flip onto a crowd of heels at ringside.
(Keller’s Analysis: I’m glad they told the story of Omega not instantly trusting Perry, and then having Perry provide evidence of trustworthiness during the match. Good action in the match itself, too.) [c]
(4) SKYE BLUE (w/Julia Hart) vs. JAMIE HAYTER
Excalibur plugged the Blood & Guts match in Greensboro, N.C. on Nov. 12 for a live Dynamite. The bell rang 23 minutes into the hour. They cut to a double-box break at 4:00. [c/db]
Hayter caught a charging Skye with a clothesline and then Hayterade for the win.
WINNER: Hayter in 12:00.
-As Hayter celebrated, Excalibur plugged her match against Thekla at WrestleDream. Then Thekla appeared on the big screen and said she was misunderstood in Europe and got kicked out of Japan and has now arrived in AEW “and I’m not impressed.” She said she attacked Hayter because “you were just there, wrong place at the wrong time.” She said she is in the wrong place again. She said her name means chaos and poison. She said on Saturday, it’s going to get toxic to the core. She told Hayter to impress her.
(Keller’s Analysis: The crowd was so quiet there. I don’t think they found Thekla’s promo something that sparked any emotions. It was just “clever wording.”)
-Renee interviewed Mercedes Mone who was bragging about winning her tenth match after winning the Bodyslam Title in Denmark. Mercedes talked about defending her CMLL Title against Persephone at Arena Mexico on Friday. Renee said she also becomes the longest running TBS Champion in history, 5o9 days. Mercedes screeched in celebration. She let out her weird laugh and said it was time to celebrate. [c]
(5) LOS INGOBENOBLES (Rush & Dralistico & The Beast Mortos w/Sammy Guevara) vs. THE OPPS (Samoa Joe & Katsuyori Shibata & Powerhouse Hobbs)
“Hangman” Adam Page was on commentary for this match. Hangman again noted he granted Joe a shot at his title, not because Joe screamed and yelled and demanded it, but because he owed it to him and said he was looking forward to it. The bell rang 46 minutes into the hour. Powerhouse Hobbs opened against Mortos and hit him with a barrage of clotheslines in the corner. Mortos came back with a clothesline off the second rope after he fended off Rush on the ring apron. Hobbs tagged in Shibata. They cut to a break at 5:00. [c/db]
Joe eventually got Drastlico to tap out to the Coquina Clutch.
WINNERS: The Opps at 12:00.
-After the match, Rush spit at Hangman. Hangman, “Oh, you spit at me?” Excalibur said they were trying to bait Hangman. Hangman entered the ring and went after the heels. It came down to Hangman and Joe. Joe picked up the AEW World Title belt. He turned around and faced Hangman. He handed the belt over to Hangman with some force and then left the ring. Excalibur said tensions were rising between champion and challenger.
[HOUR THREE – Collision]
-They went to the announcers at ringside. Excalibur plugged the “Countdown to WrestleDream” special airing after this third hour. He also plugged the PPV.
(6) WHEELER YUTA & DANIEL GARCIA (w/Marina Shafir) vs. ORANGE CASSIDY & KYLE O’REILLY
Yuta, Garcia, and Shafir made their entrance starting in the concourse. The bell rang 5 minutes into the hour. Cassidy and Garcia battled first. Cassidy and O’Reilly then double-teamed Yuta. Garcia yanked Yuta to safety at ringside. As all four battled at ringside, they cut to a break at 4:00. [c/db]
Yuta brainbuster suplexed Cassidy on the ringside barricade during the break. Yuta and Garcia double-teamed O’Reilly after the break. The camera found Moxley watching from the crowd at 10:00 after Cassidy signaled for an Orange Punch. Yuta blocked it.
O’Reilly rallied against Garcia a minute later. Mox made his way to ringside. Cassidy leaped through the ropes and tackled Yuta. As Shafir distracted the ref, the ref didn’t see Garcia tapping to O’Reilly. O’Reilly then had to fend off Pac and Claudio at ringside. Claudio threw a beaten O’Reilly into the ring where Garcia scored a three count.
WINNERS: Garcia & Yuta in 13:00.
-Afterward, Yuta and Garcia attacked Cassidy and O’Reilly. Strong and Tomohiro Ishii ran out to help, but they were outnumbered. Mox entered the empty ring with a mic in hand. Schiavone said he was loving watching what his guys were doing at ringside. Darby staggered his way onto the stage. He walked like a zombie toward the ring to try to get to Moxley, selling the beatdown from earlier in the day. Mox stared at him from the ring and then signaled for Claudio to get him. Claudio charged and landed an uppercut. Pac kicked Darby. Danielson said Darby can take a lot of punishment, but is there anything that could get Darby to say “I quit.” Yuta and Garcia then beatdown Darby. Schiavone said Darby was going through “a gauntlet of Death Riders.” Shafir even kicked him.
Mox remained in the ring. Darby began to climb into the ring slowly. The faces who were down at ringside during all of this recovered enough to send the heels to the back, leaving Darby and Mox in the ring. Darby produced the flag he brought with him to the top of Mt. Everest. Darby, on his knees, said, “It’s never too late to say I Quit.” He kneeled and extended his arms. Mox gave him a Paradigm Shift onto the flag and then stormed out of the ring, accompanied by Shafir. Danielson said Mox was insulted at the notion he would quit in a match against Darby.
-Megan Bayne made her entrance. She was joined by FTR and Stokely Hathaway. Bayne asked Willow Nightingale how it felt to give it her all, but know it wasn’t enough. She said she’s now trying to dust herself off and take another swing at her. She said she thinks that makes her a fighter, but it actually just makes her stupid. She said she must’ve not beat it through her skull hard enough, so maybe watching her tear Harley Cameron apart will finally make it click. She said it might be fun to play the hero, but her fate will always be the same – “bowing down to me.”
Hathaway said he cannot articulate how much he hates Nightingale, but he can articulate how much he hates Jet Speed. He said Saturday, they will end their feud and then focus on the AEW Tag Team Titles. Dax told booing fans, “Settle down, daddy’s speaking.” He said they have one opportunity to write their name in wrestling’s immortal book of life. He told fans to sit down and use their brain and think about the last 11 years of FTR – ten world titles across seven different brands, tag team of the year multi-times, match of the year multi-times. He told the fans they paid to see him. He said Jet Speed will be standing across the ring from God. Jet Speed, Willow, and Harley interrupted.
Kevin Knight said he knows they are riding high from their win last week. He said they have unfinished business. Speedball said it’s time to get back to the action. Harley said she knows that FTR stands for “Fear the Wrath!” Willow pointed out the error in her acronym. Willow said they should just go say that to their faces. They headed to the ring.
Jet Speed caught FTR with top rope dropkicks in the ring. Harley and Willow clotheslined Bayne over the top rope. Willow gave a spinebuster to Dax. Knight then landed a top rope UFO splash. The heels retreated up the aisle.
(7) MEGAN BAYNE vs. HARLEY CAMERON
The match began 36 minutes into the hour. They cut to a break at 4:00. [c/db]
Bayne caught a charging Harley with a lariat and then scored a two count at 8:00 after hitting her finisher. Bayne looked shocked at the kickout. Schiavone said she doesn’t know what to do next. Bayne landed a running Ligerbomb for the win seconds later.
WINNER: Bayne in 9:00.
-A backstage promo aired with Hook and Eddie Kingston afterward. Kingston said they are going to be at WrestleDream. “Whoever wants some, come get some!” Kingston said. [c]
-Backstage, The Acclaimed were interviewed. Anthony Bowens showed off his magazine covers. Max Caster and Bowens bickered. They didn’t like being called The Acclaimed and yelled that they are to be known by their individual names.
(8) KYLE FLETCHER & LANCE ARCHER & ROCKY ROMERO vs. MARK BRISCOE & BRODIDO (Brody King & Bandido)
The bell rang 54 minutes into the hour. Callis joined in on commentary. They cut to an early double-box break. [c/db]
[OVERRUN]
Brody gave Archer a Death Valley Driver. The heels took over against Romero. Excalibur said Tony Khan just informed him that the Hurt Syndicate vs. The Demand will be a tornado rules match. Also, the pre-show will feature The Conglomeration vs. The Death Riders in an eight-man tag match and Hook & Kingston will have a tag title match. Schiavone said the pre-show will be must-see.
Briscoe landed a top rope elbow on Romero. Fletcher broke up the cover. Fans chanted, “This is awesome!” Briscoe charged Fletcher, but Fletcher backdropped him and then superkicked him. Brody clotheslined Fletcher over the top rope to the floor.
In the ring, chaos broke out. Brodido finished Romero for the win after a double-team move. Callis said, “That’s okay; there’s more family members waiting in the wings.”
WINNERS: Brodido & Briscoe in 12:00.
-El Clon came out onto the ramp. Okada hit a distracted Brody with his title belt. He then gave a Rainmaker to Bandido. Callis wondered if they’d have new champions crowned with Takeshita & Okada winning the tag titles.
