[HOUR ONE]
-Excalibur was back and he introduced the show as the camera panned the audience. They went to Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Bryan Danielson at ringside. Excalibur called Revolution “one of the most monumental events in the history of All Elite Wrestling.”
-A video highlight package aired including Ronda Rousey’s appearance.
(1) WILL OSPREAY vs. BLAKE CHRISTIAN
Ospreay won with a Hidden Blade.
WINNER: Ospreay in 8:00
Ospreay leaned into the camera and addressed Jon Moxley. He said the biggest difference between the two of them is he doesn’t need a weapon to snap someone’s neck, he could do it with his bare hands. After a slightly awkward pause, Moxley’s music played and he walked out with Wheeler Yuta. Moxley charged after them in the crowd. He beat up Mox briefly and then went after Wheeler. He chased Moxley to ringside and into the ring. Ospreay bent over and had a few words for Moxley, who was on his hands and knees. Pac entered the kicked Ospreay and then put him in a Brualizer. Excalibur said he was “attacking the neck of Ospreay.”
As officials checked on Ospreay’s condition, Ace Austin and Juice Robinson began their ring entrance. Ospreay then attacked Pac on the side of the stage, knocking down some officials near Pac in the process. Pac ran to the back and Ospreay pursued him.
(2) JON MOXLEY & WHEELER YUTA vs. ACE AUSTIN & JUICE ROBINSON (w/Austin Gunn)
Wheeler and Juice battled in the ring when the bell rang 18 minutes into the hour as Mox and Ace brawled at ringside. They cut to a double-box break at 3:00. [c/db]
Daniel Garcia stood on the ring apron and yelled at Juice. Ace yanked him down. Juice stayed in control and powerbombed Yuta for a near fall. Mox and Ace tagged in and Mox finished him with a Death Rider for the win.
Afterward, Mox talked to Yuta about what happened with Ospreay earlier before retreating through the crowd.
WINNERS: Moxley & Yuta in 11:00.
-A vignette aired hyping Darby Allin vs. Gabe Kidd later in a Coffin Match. Gabe said he isn’t afraid of death.
(Keller’s Analysis: This vignette struck a good tone, with a vibe and cadence that reminded me of the opening theme to “The Shield” series about drug dealers on the streets on Baltimore.)
-They cut live to Gabe backstage who said he’s not waiting to get in the ring. He told Darby to meet him in the parking lot and called him a rat. [c]
-A promo aired with Kenny Omega backstage after Revolution. He suggested Swerve Strickland put his no. 1 contendership on the line.
(Keller’s Analysis: Why would Swerve agree to that?)
-They went to the announcers at ringside. Excalibur said Swerve earned no. 1 contendership by beating Brody King at Revolution.
-Gabe stood in the parking lot and Darby drove up in an old car with spray paint on it. Darby leaped out of the car. Gabe fought back and threw Darby onto the hood and choked him. Darby went into his backpack and pulled out a rag and put some solvent on it and then shoved the rag over Gabe’s face. Darby threw Gabe into the trunk and slammed it shut. He then drove it into a pile of junk and the car flipped over. Darby crawled out of the window of the front seat. Schiavone said, “It just got nuttier.” He said they were supposed to have a coffin match inside. The trunk opened and Gabe fell out. Darby put Gabe on a rolling crate and began pushing it.
-They went to the announcers who wondered if they’d even have a coffin match. Schiavone said that’s the craziest thing he’s seen in AEW and they’ve seen a lot. Darby then pushed the rolling crate into the arena toward a coffin at ringside.
(3) DARBY ALLIN vs. GABE KIDD – Coffin match
The bell rang at this point. Darby shoved Gabe off the rolling crate and then pulled a skate board and a straight jacket out of it. Danielson said if Gabe was unconscious, he should just put him in the coffin. Excalibur said it’s about more than that. Schiavone agreed with that take. Darby tightened the straight jacket and put him on a chair. Darby wound up with a skateboard to bash him, but Gabe kicked him. Gabe broke free as fans chanted, “Darby! Darby!” Gabe bit at Darby’s forehead. Danielson said both of them are insane. Gabe said, “I love this; this is good memories.” He smiled and opened the coffin and was about to push Darby in. Darby resisted, so Gabe smashed Darby’s hand under the lid. They cut to a double-box break. [c/db]
Back from the break, Gabe knocked the ref into the ropes, which knocked Darby off balance from the top rope. Gabe delivered a powerslam, despite being restrained in the straight jacket. Gabe nearly closed the lid on Darby when Darby was half in. Darby pushed back and bit Gabe’s nose.
Back in the ring, Darby hit Gabe with the skateboard several times across his back and then a jab to the side of his head. Darby leaped off the top rope with a Coffin Drop. He immediately hit a second Coffin Drop. He dragged Gave to ringside. Gabe fought back. Darby swept Gabe’s legs. Gabe stood at ringside. Darby dove through the ropes and knocked Gabe into the coffin, and the lid fell down for the win. Excalibur wondered “at what cost” this win came.
WINNER: Darby in 11:00.
-Darby picked up a mic afterward and said, “I’m going to hold that throttle until I see God or that AEW World Championship. Maxwell Jacob Friedman, I’m coming.”
(Keller’s Analysis: Wild and satisfying match of this style. The car stunt was wild.)
-Excalibur said Swerve put on a social media, “How about a counter-offer?”
-A video played of Luchasaurus honking the horn of the Jurassic Express bus for Jack Perry. Perry loaded up his bag and walked out of his house. When he walked out, he held a walnet and a squirrel jumped onto his hand and grabbed it and then hopped away. Luchasaurus was shown filling up the tank of gas as a map showed their travels. Then the bus arrived as Lucahsaurus honked. Perry got out and said, “The Jurassic Express has arrived in Fresno.” He said he’s teaming with two guys who are like brothers to him. The Young Bucks walked up to him. Matt Jackson said Revolution was a tough night, but they need to show their kids that they can dust themselves off and start fighting to the top again. When Nick Jackson mentioned their opponents, including Kazuchika Okada, Luchasaurus stepped out of the door of the bus and yelled, “Bitch!”
(Keller’s Analysis: AEW has come a long way since they pointed a camera at the ring and just showed matches. This was fun.) [c]
-Prince Nana was standing in the ring. He asked if everyone now realizes, after Revolution, why he’s the most dangerous man in AEW. He called him “Mr. Dangerous” and introduced him. Swerve made his entrance.
[HOUR TWO]
sat on a chair mid-ring. He spoke of going to war with Brody King on Sunday. “The only true winners of war are the ones with power,” he said. He said he “enjoyed beating the hell out of that man in his home state of California.” He said he wasn’t satisfied, though, because the power lies elsewhere. He said power can be more important than titles. He said he’s dealt with organizations with power his whole life from his time in the military to traveling the world in the independents to “when I was stuck in Developmental.” He said if it weren’t for the Bucks interference, he’d be AEW World Champion by now.
He said, “Unbeknownst to me, I’m the new number one contender to the AEW World Championship.” He asked what that status means if he doesn’t have the power to protect it. He said he doesn’t want Kenny Omega removed from power, but rather he wants his power. He told Kenny to offer up his EVP status in exchange for no. 1 contendership being at stake. He vowed he would become AEW’s new EVP.
-Renee Paquette interviewed “Speedball” Mike Bailey backstage. She asked about his Trios Title win. Speedball said you can look at some people and instantly see they were a star, such as Kevin Knight. He said that wasn’t the case with him. He said he had to wrestle all over the world to get everyone else to believe in him. He said it’s that tenacity that earns his respect. He said Kenny followed that path. He said mental toughness makes you a star and a winner.
(4) “SPEEDBALL” MIKE BAILEY vs. MARK DAVIS
They cut to an early double-box break. [c/db]
Speedball won with a spinning hook kick and his Ultimate Weapon.
WINNER: Speedball in 11:00.
-A promo aired with a bloodied MJF backstage. He said he’s going to become the greatest of all time and he’s ahead of schedule. He said Hangman is no longer in the title picture as he builds his legacy for the next 20 years. MJF asked the cameraman to ask him a question. He asked MJF what he’s going next. MJF said, “I’m going to Disney World!” He kissed the camera. [c]
-A promo aired backstage with Okada, Trent Peretta, and Rocky Romero speaking about their main event.
-They cut to a clip from earlier of Toni Storm on the ground in her locker room, attacked. Shafir said she won’t speak on what she may or may not have done to Storm, but said if Toni wanted to “suffer the same fate,” she made the right choice.
(5) MARINA SHAFIR vs. MINA SHIRAKAWA – No Holds Barred
Shafir made her entrance first, accompanied by Moxley. Excalibur said Shafir was evasive and didn’t deny or accept responsibility. The bell rang 28 minutes into the hour. They cut to a double box break at 3:00. [c/db]
At 9:00, they battled on the ring apron. Shafir leaped off the ring apron and back suplexed Shirakawa toward a table. Shirakawa’s head hit floor with a thud as Shafir crashed through the table. She scored a two count in the ring. Danielson said that was a cocky cover. Shirakawa scored a three count a minute later with a Storm Zero. Excalibur reacted as if even was surprised by the three count. Danielson said he thinks Shirakawa caught Shafir in the jaw with a champagne bottle. Schiavone said he thinks someone else other than Shafir took out Storm. He wondered aloud who it could have been.
WINNER: Shirakawa in 11:00.
-Backstage, Renee interviewed Andrade about what’s next for him. Don Callis, via phone, asked Andrade to accept a large sum of money in a briefcase on behalf of the Don Callis Family. Andrade asked, “Are you telling me we are working with MJF?” Callis said they’re doing business, but he understands the conflict since Andrade has his eye on the title. Callis admitted it but told him to trust him. Andrade said, “Okay, Don. Thank you.” He wasn’t enthusiastic, though. [c]
(6) THE YOUNG BUCKS & JACK PERRY vs. KAZUCHIKA OKADA & TRENT BERETTA & ROCKY ROMERO
The bell rang 49 minutes into the hour. They cut to a break at 3:00. [c/db]
WINNERS: Bucks & Perry in 12:00.
-Afterward, The Young Bucks spoke. Matt said he spoke to his dad after they lost at Revolution and he told them to keep their heads up as there are still fans who love them. He said his dad isn’t wrong. He said they know exactly who the hell they are.
