EXCLUSIVE: Alex Windsor reveals the advice she got from Ospreay and others on making the transition from the indies to AEW TV

AEW wrestler Alex Windsor credited her husband, Will Ospreay, with being one of the people that helped her make the transition from performing on the indies to performing on TV. “Yeah, he definitely helped with the different styles of, wrestling ’cause I’m, you know, I was very just used to working on the independent scene where you don’t really work… You work for the crowd,” said Windsor during an interview on Radican Worldwide available now for PWTorch VIP members. “That’s what they’re there for. That’s who you bounce off of. So, it was sort of like, even though I knew what I was doing in the ring, it’s sort of like starting from scratch again because you do have to change a lot of your style.”

Windsor said one of the ways Ospreay helped her was by giving her advice backstage after her matches on TV for AEW. “There’s so much you have to be aware of that I wasn’t really on the indie scene,” said Windsor. “So, yeah, going in there, you know, after every match, Will would sort of pull me aside and say, ‘Look, you need to do this. You need to do that.’ So, it’s weird because you know what you’re doing, and you know you’re good at what you’re doing. That’s why, you know, it’s why you’re there in the first place. But again, there’s so much more you need to learn. So it’s, you know, there’s still now, there’s still little things that I’ll think, ‘Oh, you know, I should’ve done this. I should’ve done that.’ So, it’s a constant learning curve.”

Windsor also credited other people like Sky Blue, Christopher Daniels, and Jerry Lynn with helping her behind the scenes. “I think I spoke to, you know, I’ve spoken to Sky Blue as well,” said Windsor. “She’s been a great help. She’s very experienced, I guess, at this point with working TV and things like that. And, you know, you’d get advice from Christopher Daniels. He would always give advice after matches.

“And Jerry Lynn would watch a few of my matches and say, ‘You know, you could do this, you could do that.’ So, there’s always… We’re very blessed at AEW that there’s always people about that can, you can ask any question and they will give the answer. It doesn’t matter what, whether it’s about cameras, moves, you know, character. There’s always someone that you can turn to and ask.”

Windsor said the most difficult adjustment for her from wrestling on the indies to wrestling on TV was the timing of matches and segments on TV. “I definitely think timing is a thing because it’s not just, you know, again, the independents, they say, ‘Right, you’ve got 15 minutes,’” said Windsor. “‘This is the finish. This is what we want.’ Whereas here, it’s like you’ve got two minutes for this section, three minutes for here, four minutes there. So, it’s sort of like you really do have to keep an eye on the time in each part of the match.

“And, you know, I think, but on the plus side, I think you do work more together with the referees and the agents backstage. It is much more of a team effort because you’re all talking to each other, you’re all communicating. So, it’s a lot to learn, but I think it adds to the end product and how it all comes out.”
