-Blake Howard and NXT GM Robert Stone introduced the show from ringside, then threw to Sarah Schreiber in the VIP Lounge, where she welcomed Evolve Champion Harlem Lewis, who said he wanted to see who would be next in the path of the Harlem Violence World Tour.

-Max Abrams came out wearing some type of goggles with a mouth covering. He said he’d had some work done and bragged about his bone density. He told the crowd to ask themselves if they need help. He said the doctor told him he was healing tremendously. He introduced the X-Factor, C.J. Valor, to take his place in the number one contender’s match.

(1) C.J. VALOR vs. HARLEY RIGGINS vs. IT’S GAL vs. CUTLER JAMES – Evolve Championship #1 Contender’s Fatal 4-Way Match

At the bell, Gal attacked James while Riggins put down Valor and Gal. James charged in with a spear. James and Gal tangled some more, then Gal and Valor tried to outpose each other before throwing hands. Riggins and James thumped on Valor and Gal, then each other. James got the best of the exchange, but ate a spear from Valor. Riggins hit a senton on Valor and James at the same time before being dropkicked into next week by Gal. [c]

After the commercial break, It’s Gal was beating on Riggins and Valor. He landed a blue thunder powerbomb on Riggins for a two-count. Valor tried to get James on his side, but the DarkState member wasn’t having any of it and laid him out. James hoisted Gal over his shoulders with a fireman’s carry, then delivered a big swing to Valor while still holding Gal. That was impressive. Riggins walked into a Valor spinebuster, but the pin was broken up by Gal. With his three opponents on the floor, Gal delivered a springboard press onto them all. Riggins went over to run his mouth at Harlem Lewis, then shoved him. Lewis fired back, which allowed Gal to throw Riggins into the steps. Back in the ring, Gal hit a Dummybuster on Valor and covered him, but Max Abrams pulled the referee out of the ring. James took out Gal, then hit a vortex backbreaker on Valor for the win.

WINNER: Cutler James at 8:53 to become the new #1 contender to the Evolve Championship.

(Miller’s Take: That was a great hope spot for It’s Gal at the end that almost fooled me, but it was not to be. Having the senior competitor in the ring come out with the W makes sense to me, and it will make Harlem Lewis look like a stronger champion when he defeats a member of the NXT roster, which I’m sure he will.)

-After the match, James stared down Lewis from the ring, while the champ lamented the fact that Riggins broke his cigar.

-In the back, Evolve Women’s Champion Nikkita Lyons was meditating while Sloane Jacobs fiddled with her phone. Lyons resented Jacobs interrupting her travel through the astral plane about her thoughts on the #1 contender’s fatal four way. Lyons said it didn’t matter who won, she would defeat them, then went back to meditating.

-Elsewhere in the back, Sam Holloway, Cappuccino Jones, Aaron Rourke, and Marcus Mathers were pumping up Laynie Luck for her match tonight. [c]

-Zena Sterling said Ukrainian culture taught her not to talk unless she had something worth saying. She talked about her transformation into who she is now.

-As Cutler James returned to the back, he bumped into Sam Holloway. They got in each others faces, but were separated by other wrestlers and officials.

-WWE ID 1.0 entered the ring. Rourke told The Mog Squad he was still standing. Mathers, Holloway, and Jones took their turns talking as well. Jones invited them out to receive an ass-whooping. The Mog Squad meandered out to answer the challenge. They made fun of ID 1.0 collectively and individually, then took a moment to mog. Holloway threatened to meet them down on the floor before Evolve Foreman Timothy Thatcher walked out to put a stop to it. He announced that next week would be an ID showcase, with every match featuring ID prospects, then there would be a gauntlet match with WWE ID 1.0 vs. The Mog Squad.

-In the back, Wren Sinclair was chatting with Skylar Raye. They agreed that whoever wins the match tonight will knock Big Kat Kita off her perch. [c]

-A spot for the WWE ID program aired.

-Sloane Jacobs enthusiastically introduced Evolve Women’s Champion Nikkita Lyons. They made their way to the VIP section, where Anya Rune was seated. As they tried to shoo her off, she was attacked from behind by Veronica Haven and Gianna Capri. Officials came out to scrape Rune’s carcass off the floor before the match started.

(2) ZENA STERLING vs. LAYNIE LUCK vs. SKYLAR RAYE vs. WREN SINCLAIR – Evolve Women’s Championship #1 Contender’s Fatal 4-Way Match

The other three women pinballed Sterling at the bell, then traded several rollup pins. Sterling caught a flying press attempt by Raye and delivered a backbreaker. Raye came to life and pitched Sterling out of the ring. Luck hit a suicide dive to Sinclair on the floor, then Raye flew off the top with a press onto all three women on the floor. She took a nasty landing that could have been very bad, but she popped back up. [c]

Sinclair and Raye hit stereo cross body presses from the top rope. Luck dropped Raye and Sinclair, then went to work on Sterling. Sinclair broke up a pin attempt, but got German suplexed by Luck. Sinclair, Luck, and Sterling traded blows mid-ring. Sinclair took out Luck, then applied the Final Wrench on Sterling, but Luck broke the hold. Raye hit a big move on both Sinclair and Luck, but couldn’t pin either one. Many pin attempts were broken up until Raye took Sinclair to the floor, where she delivered a tornado DDT. In the ring, the lights flashed while Luck looked around, perplexed. Vanta the Unknown slid into the ring and executed a wild-looking windmill kick to the back of Luck’s head, then slid back out. Raye landed a high frog splash off the top onto Luck for the pin.

WINNER: Skylar Raye at 10:00 to become the new number one contender to the Evolve Women’s Championship.

(Miller’s Take: Well, I think Raye would have been my last pick to win this match, but I’m not unhappy about it. Vanta the Unknown finally made her presence felt, and after that kick (which I had to replay several times to figure out how she did it), I’m anxious to see more of her. This was chaotic, with not a shred of ring psychology, but it was fun to watch, nonetheless.)

-After the match, Lyons entered the ring and faced off with Raye, holding her title overhead. Just like a couple of weeks ago, Wendy Choo’s face flickered on and off the big screen as the show went off the air.

FINAL THOUGHTS: When it comes to fatal four-ways, you’re going to get what you’re going to get, which is a lot of highspots with little to zero ring psychology or storytelling. We now have new number one contenders, and apparently fresh blood coming in next week. Definitely a show worth watching. See you next week!
