AEW COLLISION REPORT

Attendance: WrestleTix reported that 2,976 tickets had been distributed; arena is set up for 3,158. The arena has a capacity of 8,600 spectators when configured for concerts.
[HOUR ONE]
-The show opened on a crowd chanting “A-E-Dub” as Tony Schiavone welcomed everyone to the show.
(1) THE DON CALLIS FAMILY (Jake Doyle & Brian Cage) vs. THE YOUNG BUCKS (Nick Jackson & Matt Jackson)
Brian Cage’s music played to bring out Cage and Doyle. The Young Bucks’ music played to bring out Matt and Nick. The bell rang three minutes into the show as Doyle and Cage attacked Nick and Matt as they posed on the turnbuckles.
Doyle and Cage stomped Matt down in the corner. Doyle choked Matt with his boot in the corner and tagged Cage in. Matt ducked a double clothesline and flipped out of a pair of back suplex attempts and dove to make the tag to Nick. Nick came in from the top rope with a crossbody on Doyle and Cage. Nick took Cage and Doyle down with a springboard hurricanrana and armdrag combination.
Nick and Matt went for the high-five bulldog in the ring, but Doyle and Cage countered it with a back suplex for each. Nick and Matt hit a double dropkick on Cage and then knocked him off the apron with a dropkick. Matt held the rope as Nick hit a flipping dive onto Cage and Doyle at ringside.
Doyle blocked a kick from Nick on the apron and Cage deadlift suplexed Nick into the ring. Matt charged in but ran into a body block from Doyle. Cage curled Nick and then delivered a fallaway slam and posed. /Cage performed a pumphandle into a knee strike that knocked Nick to the mat as they went to commercial. [c]
Back from break, Nick springboarded into the ring, but Cage caught him on his shoulders. Cage set up for an F5 (or something), and Nick countered it into a destroyed that left both men down. Matt got the hot tag and took punches to Doyle and Cage. Matt hit a sliced bread on Cage and planted Doyle with a DDT. Nick and Matt landed the high-five double bulldogs in the center of the ring. Nick and Matt climbed opposite turnbuckles and hit a senton and elbow drop (respectively). Matt covered Cage, but he kicked out at two.
Nick and Matt called for a superkick party and delivered to Cage and Doyle as well when he tried to intervene. Matt attempted to lift Doyle up for a Meltzer driver, but couldn’t quite get him. Nick assisted in getting him up and returned to the apron. As Nick leapt in, Cage caught him out of the air and slammed him down.
Doyle countered a hurricanrana from Matt with a sitout powerbomb. Doyle held on for the pin, but Matt kicked out at two. Nick countered a Cage powerbomb with a facebuster. Nick and Matt hit Doyle with a combination of kicks and then hit the BTE Trigger. Matt made the cover on Doyle and got the win.
WINNERS: The Young Bucks in 13:00
(White’s Take: A Young Bucks match is still a Young Bucks match, even against a pair of larger opponents. They did play up the size and power difference, but at the end of the day it devolved into a tornado tag match where the Bucks hit a bevy of double team moves and picked up the win, exactly as anyone who has ever seen a Young Bucks match would’ve guessed. Still fun.)
-They threw to a video of Willow Nightingale, where she said her and Mercedes are a lot alike, doing everything to try to win. Willow said she doesn’t make excuses for her losses; she gets back up and keeps fighting. She said she fights for herself and for the people that need to hear her say it. She said she will get her title back from Mercedes. Willow said she heard what Mercedes and Thekla said about her (they played clips from that promo segment). Willow asked what they have to say when it’s to her face.
(White’s Take: On the higher end of Willow promos. Positive and upbeat, but not syrupy-sweet.)
(2) “HANGMAN” ADAM PAGE & BANDIDO & BRODY KING vs. BRADDAH KAIMI & LVJ & VIN PARKER
“Hangman” Adam Page, Bandido, and Brody King entered as a group while their opponents were waiting in the ring. The bell rang to start the match 19 minutes into the hour.
Parker chopped Brody, but he didn’t seem to mind. Brody dropped Parker with a single chop. Brody stacked Kaimi, LVJ, & Parker in the corner and crushed all three with an avalanche in the corner. Page added a flipping cannon ball on all three in the corner and Brody added a cannon ball of his own.
Page hit Parker with the Deadeye and Brody added a big running lariat. Bandido climbed to the top rope and connected with a frog splash on Parker. Bandido made the cover and got the win for his team.
WINNERS: “Hangman” Adam Page & Bandido & Brody King in 2:00
-The Bang Bang Gang was backstage and Jay White said he was hoping to have some gold after All In. He said they have some new blood in the New Level. Juice called out Fletcher and Knight. Juice said he and Ace Austin are so close he knows what kind of deodorant. Ace said he’s not wearing deodorant at all, but that doesn’t stink as match as Knight and Fletcher losing their titles at All In. [c]
-The Brawling Birds were backstage after Dynamite. Windsor said if they want to play games, that’s fine. But she said she’d rather fight them one more time. Hayter challenged them to a match at All In. Hayter stopped to ask Windsor if she was thinking the same thing, and they said, in unison, “Chicago Street Fight.”
(3) NICK WAYNE vs. KOMANDER
Nick Wayne’s music hit and he made his entrance. Komander’s music hit and he made his way to the ring. He was appropriately announced as Komander as he made his entrance. The bell rang to start the match 29 minutes into the show as the crowd chanted “Mistico” briefly.
Komander took Wayne down with a springboard armdag. Komander went for a kick, but Wayne rolled out of the ring. Wayne slid back in and hit a kick to the gut on Komander. Komander dodged a number of strikes before taking Wayne down with a headscissor. Wayne rolled back out of the ring. Komander got a two-count on a magistral cradle. Wayne suplexed Komander into the corner as went to break. [c]
Komander caught Wayne with a back elbow and an overhand chop. Wayne came back with a German suplex. Komander hit Wayne with a DDT. Komander hit Wayne with a springboard destroyer. Wayne rolled to the outside and Komander hit him with a flipping dive. Komander went for the rope-walk into the shooting star press, but Wayne got his knees up. Wayne went for the pin and put his foot on the ropes, but Komander kicked out at two.
Komander went for a springboard, but Wayne caught him with a cutter out of nowhere. Wayne hit a roundhouse to the head and delivered the Prodigy Plex. Wayne made the cover and got the win.
WINNER: Nick Wayne in 12:00
(White’s Take: Fun, fast-paced athletic match. Komander hit a lot of his impressive spots, but Nick Wayne continues to succeed as a cocky young heel, and certainly needs the win heading into a feud with Jericho.)
As Wayne celebrated his win, Jericho snuck in an held Wayne’s hand up in victory. As Wayne turned, Jericho caught him with The Judas Effect.
-Lexy Nair was backstage with Takeshita and The Conglomeration. She asked where everyone goes after they all lost at All In. Kyle said they’re not done until everyone has a backpack full of gold. Takeshita said he’s not giving up on becoming champion, because he’s the alpha.
(4) PERSEPHONE (w/Britt Baker) vs. VERTVIXEN – TBS Championship match
Vertivixen made her way to the ring first. Persephone’s music played and she made her way to the ring accompanied by Britt Baker. Britt joined the commentary team as the bell rang to start the match 44 minutes into the hour.
Persephone knocked Vertivixen into the corner, but she dodged and up-and-over and took Persephone down with a shoulder tackle. Vertivixen took Perserphone down with a sweep. Vertivixen went for a crossbody from the middle rope, but Persephone caught her and slammed her down. Persephone hit a running low dropkick and went for the pin, but Vertivixen kicked out at two as they went to commercial. [c]
They returned from commercial as Vertivixen struggled in a grounded choke. Vertivixen fought out and they traded forearms until Persephone connected with a short-arm clothesline. Vertivixen came back with a pair of kicks and a running pump kick in the corner. Vertivixen landed a strange blue thunder bomb into a pin for two.
Persephone rolled through a roll-up attempt and hit a shotgun dropkick. Persephone followed up with the crucifix powerbomb and made the cover for the win.
WINNER: Persephone in 8:00
(White’s Take: This was fine. Recent signee Vertvixen had her spots, but mostly this was just Persephone looking strong throughout, as she should. Britt added almost nothing on commentary.)
-After the match, Britt joined Persephone in the ring to stomp down Vertivixen. Britt set up for the Lockjaw, but Maya World’s music played and she stepped out to the stage. Thunder Rosa’s music followed and they charged the ring as Persephone and Britt ducked out.
-They showed some highlights of Andrade and Gabe Kidd’s feud from Japan and AEW.
(5) THE LETHAL TWIST (Lee Johnson & Blake Christian w/Jay Lethal) vs. MOTOR CITY MACHINE GUNS (Alex Shelly & Chris Sabin)
The Lethal Twist’s music played to bring Blake Christian and Lee Johnson to the ring along with Jay Lethal. Motor City Machine Guns’ music played to bring Sabin and Shelly to the ring. The bell rang to start the match 57 minutes into the show as the crowd chanted “Motor City.”
Johnson escaped a wristlock from Shelley, but Shelley grabbed a side headlock and then dropped him with a shoulder block followed by a drop toe hold. Sabin took Blake down with a Japanese armdrag and transitioned into a hammerlock. Sabin got a one-count from a magistral.
Blake landed a shotgun dropkick and tagged in Johnson. Sabin dodged Johnson in the corner and made the tag to Shelley. Sabin hit a back elbow and Shelley added a boot to Blake. Sabin and Shelley hit Johnson with a combination of strikes and tossed him out of the ring.
Sabin and Shelley hit double baseball slide dropkicks on Blake and Johnson. Shelly held the ropes and Sabin hit a dive onto both as they went to commercial. [c]
[HOUR TWO]
They returned from commercial as Sabin got the hot tag and came in with a double crossbody on Blake and Johnson. Sabin hit a combination of strikes on both men before planting Johnson with a swinging DDT. Sabin hit a running kick on Blake at ringside and hit Johnson with a jumping DDT from the middle rope. Savin made the cover, but Johnson kicked out at two.
Johnson fought off Shelley and Sabin, but ran into a combination of strikes from both men, down to a double thrust kick. Shelley made the cover, but Johnson kicked out at two. Blake came out of nowhere and hit a dive onto Shelly at ringside. Johnson caught Sabin with a back elbow. Johnson and Blake hit a pair of splashes on Sabin and made the cover, but Shelley broke up the pin.
Sabin hit a cutter on Johnson. Shelley lifted Johnson onto his shoulders and Sabin hit a dropkick knocking Johnson to the mat. Sabin made the cover, but Blake broke it up. Sabin and Shelley hit Blake with a combination chancery and low dropkick to the face. Sabin and Shelley hit a double team pendulum slam of some kind. Sabin made the cover and got the win.
WINERS: Motor City Machine Guns in 13:00
(White’s Take: Motor City Machine Guns struggled with an impressive young tag team mostly known for looking good in defeat. Good to introduce to the varied tag team maneuvers of the Machine Guns, although I wasn’t familiar with the finishing move. It was good, but went a little long for the first match from MCMG.)
-Jack Perry was backstage, where he said he failed to win the Casino Gauntlet. He said he would become world champion, but he doesn’t know when or how. He said, until then, his goal remains the same: “face the best to become the best.” [c]
-They returned from commercial backstage with Ricochet. He said All In was a disaster. Liona said he’s never heard of The New Level. Kaun was upset that they’re not even a real trio, just one guy with a tag team. Ricochet added that when you’re in demand, you make demands, and Liona threw in the idea that if you don’t follow demands, you get put down.
(6) ANDRADE EL IDOLO vs. GABE KIDD – National Championship match
Gabe Kidd’s music played and he made his entrance, acting less like a dog without Connors and Finlay by his side. Andrade’s music played and he stepped out with the National title and his contract, alongside a pair of women. Andrade continued to the ring on his own. The bell rang to start the match 18 minutes into the second hour. As Kidd attacked Andrade from behind.
Kidd hit a suplex and went for a quick pin but got no count. The crowd chanted, “How you know?” as Kidd went for a headlock. They fought to ringside where Kidd rammed Andrade into the barricade. Andrade reversed a whip and sent Kidd into the barricade. Andrade rammed his head into the announce desk and delivered a chop against the barricade.
Back in the ring, Andrade delivered the three amigos suplexes. Kidd rolled out of the ring where Andrade tossed him into the steel stairs. Back in the ring, Andrade removed his pants as the crowd cheered. Andrade climbed to the top rope and went for a frog splash, but Kidd got his knees up. Kidd rammed his own head repeatedly into the turnbuckle as they went to commercial. [c]
Andrade landed a tornillo that sent both men tumbling to the floor. Andrade stopped to take a selfie with ring announcer Arkady at ringside. Back in the ring, Andrade hit his feint moonsault. Kidd came back with a lariat followed a powerbomb into a pin for two.
Andrade came back with double knees in the corner on Kidd. Andrade made the cover, but Kidd kicked out at two. Andrade set up for The DM, but Kidd slipped out and hit an uppercut. Andrade went for a spinning back elbow, but Kidd dodged it and hit a back suplex.
Kidd rammed his hit into the turnbuckles again and hit Andrade with a running knee. Kidd hit the ropes but charged into Andrade’s spinning back elbow. Andrade made the cover, but Kidd kicked out at two. Andrade followed up with The DM and made the cover for the in.
WINNER: Andrade El Idolo in 11:00
After the match, Andrade grabbed a microphone to say it’s only a matter of time until he is AEW World Champion, with his contract. He said he wants to wait for the right time. In the meantime, he’ll focus on becoming the greatest National champion of all time. He said he will defend the title every week. He said he had one question. He waited for the crowd to chant “how you know,” but they didn’t, so he said it himself.
(White’s Take: It ended up being a pretty good, hard-hitting match, but struggled at times. Kidd’s over-the-top-crazy-person gimmick did not help the flow of the match. I feel like these two are absolutely capable of a very-good-to-great performance, but this wasn’t it.)
-Tommaso Ciampa was backstage where he relived his debut at Texas. He ran down some of his big moments in AEW, saying All In was the biggest. He said it’s time to create the next moment, to collect a new title.
(7) ATHENA vs. ISLA DAWN – ROH Women’s World Championship Proving Ground match
Isla Dawn made her entrance before Athena’s music played and she made her way to the ring. The bell rang to start the match 35 minutes into the second hour as the crowd chanted for Athena.
Athena took Dawn down quickly but Dawn came back with a dropkick. Athena fought back with a pump kick and a running low kick that knocked Dawn out of the ring. Athena hit a running kick from the apron. Athena rammed Dawn into the barricade at ringside a few times. The crowd chanted “one more time,” but Athena roiled Dawn into the ring instead.
Athena stomped on Dawn and then mounted her before raining down fists. Dawn rolled Athena up for a quick two-count. Athena jumped from the middle rope, but Dawn caught her with a kick in the air. Dawn hit a suplex and running knee and made the cover, but Athena kicked out at two.
Dawn lifted Athena onto her shoulders, but Athena slipped off and shoved Dawn into the corner. Athena charged, but Dawn got her boot up. Dawn climbed to the top rope and jumped off, but Athena dodged her and hit back-to-back German suplexes.
Athena hit a handstand into an elbow in the corner and climbed to the top rope. Athena nailed Dawn with The O-Face and made the cover for the win.
WINNER: Athena in 5:00
(White’s Take: In a recent interview, Athena had implied she wanted to be more involved in AEW as she’s done everything she can in ROH…for like three years. However, what amounts to a squash match in an eliminator-style match for the ROH title isn’t much of a leap into the main roster of AEW, even though she’d be a strong challenger for Mercedes or Persephone.)
(8) KEVIN KNIGHT & KYLE FLETCHER (w/Don Callis & Lance Archer) vs. THE BANG BANG GANG (Ace Austin & Juice Robinson w/Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn & “Switchblade” Jay White)
Kevin Knight’s music played and he stepped out into smoke. Fletcher’s music played and he entered with Don Callis and Lance Archer. Callis joined the commentary team as the lights went out and The Bang Bang Gang’s music played. Juice and Ace appeared on the stage with Jay White, Austin Gunn, and Colten Gunn, but made their way to the ring by themselves. The bell rang to start the match 47 minutes into the hour.
Fletcher and Ace traded wristlocks before Ace hit a dropkick. Knight tagged himself in and Ace hit him with a clothesline. Ace rolled into a drop toe hold and rolled Knight up for a two-count. Ace hit a kick that knocked Knight to the mat. Juice tagged in and came in with a double axe handle from the top rope.
Juice hit an inverted atomic drop followed by a side Russian leg sweep and a standing splash. Juice made the cover, but Knight kicked out at two. Juice hit a side slam and Ace added a leg drop. Ace made the cover, but Knight kicked out at two.
Ace locked Knight into a headscissor on the ground before hitting a kick to Knight’s back. Fletcher charged in and scoop slammed Ace. Knight and Fletcher argued. They paused so Knight could hit Juice with a dropkick, and returned to their disagreement as they went to commercial. [c]
Back from break, Ace ducked a sliding clothesline from Knight and hot the hot tag to Juice. Juice charged in with an elbow for Knight, Juice knocked Fletcher off the apron and hit a senton on Knight. Fletcher charged in where Juice hit a combination of punches. Juice feigned the left hand and hit Fletcher with a DDT. Juice hit Knight with the eventual left and nailed Knight with a powerbomb. Juice made the cover, but Knight kicked out at two.
Ace climbed to the top rope, but Fletcher grabbed his ankle, allowing Knight to shoved Juice into him. Knight brought Ace in with a hurricanrana from the top and tagged in Fletcher. Knight and Fletcher attempted to double suplex Ace, but Juice slid in and made the saved. Juice and Ace hit a pair of kicks on Fletcher and Knight. Juice hit a plancha to Knight on the outside while Ace trapped Fletcher’s head between his ankles and stomped his face into the mat with The House of Cards. Ace made the cover, but Fletcher kicked out at two.
Ace hit a spinning kick from the middle rope that connected with Fletcher’s jaw. Ace charged, but Fletcher caught him with a Michinoku driver. Fletcher made the cover, but Ace kicked out at two. Ace countered a brainbuster attempt with an inside cradle, but Fletcher kicked out at two. Ace landed a kick that rocked Fletcher.
On the outside, Knight slammed Juice down on the apron with uranage. Ace dodged Knight on the apron and hit a kick. Austin springboarded into the ring, but Fletcher caught him with an anti-air kick. Fletcher hit the running kick in the corner where Knight made the blind tag. Fletcher hit the brainbuster and went for the pin, but rolled out of the way as Knight came flying in with the UFO. Knight made the cover and got the win.
WINNERS: Kevin Knight & Kyle Fletcher in 12:00
(White’s Take: Juice and Ace Austin got in a lot of offense, which is the AEW way when the heels are going to win clean. Ace moves around the ring with incredible finesse and looked good in the loss, aside from his unfortunate hair. Knight and Fletcher should absolutely be winning, even with the occasional miscommunication in the ring.)
-Schiavone breathlessly ran down the card for Dynamite before signing off.
FINAL THOUGHTS: Standard Collision that didn’t seem to be riding the momentum from All In (in fact, there was just a very short recap video of the huge event). That aside, it managed to cram in eight wrestling matches consisting of mostly strong in-ring work. The title matches would seem to add a bit of cachet to the show, but the obvious outcomes of those bouts didn’t help. What did help was the uptick in star power from a typical Collision. Fletcher, Knight, Andrade, “Hangman,” The Young Bucks, and the Motor City Machine Guns’ first match made for a more interesting show, but it remains the most missable two hours of weekly wrestling. Walker Stewart, on commentary, was a refreshing change though. He has a good voice, knew what he was talking about, didn’t sound too corporate shilly or say anything dumb or annoying. They couldn’t just have him replace Schiavone though, ‘cause then what would I complain about?
