[HOUR ONE]
-Excalibur introduced the show as they panned the audience. He plugged the WrestleDream PPV on Saturday and introduced Tony Schiavone and Walker Stewart at the announce desk with him.
(1) JON MOXLEY & GABE KIDD & DANIEL GARCIA (w/Marina Shafir) vs. WARDLOW & MARK DAVIS & JAKE DOYLE
Renee Paquette did a ringside report and said the last few weeks have been the most trying time The Death Riders have ever had. She said they don’t know the toll recent events will have on them. She said Moxley told her he won’t underestimate Mark Davis again after getting pinned last week by him.
The bell rang 5 minutes into the hour. The bell rang 5 minutes into the hour. At 3:00 Wardlow tagged in and got the better of Gabe Kidd, who quickly tagged out to Daniel Garcia. Wardlow knocked Garcia down, so Garcia looked up at Moxley and tagged him in. Mox ran the ropes and checked Wardlow, who barely budged. Wardlow then ran the ropes and knocked Mox down. Wardlow stomped away at Mox in the corner a minute later.
Doyle tagged in against Mox next. Mox side-stepped him and then somersaulted to his corner and tagged in Kidd. Kidd took Doyle down with a lariat. Chaos broke out. Garcia clotheslined Wardlow center-ring, but Wardlow blew it off. Garcia stared at him in awe. Wardlow set up a powerbomb, but Garcia escaped and applied a Dragon Tamer. Doyle and Davis interfered. As all six brawled as they cut to a double-box break. [c/db]
Garcia brought Doyle down with a tackle which popped the crowd. Doyle tagged in Davis. Mox also tagged in. Fans cheered. Mox, Garcia, and Kidd took turns splashing Davis in the corner. Kidd then distracted the ref as Shafir landed a running corner splash herself. Schiavone said, “She fears no one! No one!” Garcia put Davis in a Dragon Tamer. Doyle and Wardlow stomped Mox. The ref stopped counting at two.
Wardlkiow and Doyle set up powerbombs, but Garcia and Kidd escaped. All six were in the ring. Garcia grabbed Wardlow by his throat. Wardlow broke free and put his hand on Garcia’s throat. Kidd broke that up and clotheslined Wardlow over the top rope to the floor. Garcia leaped off the ring apron on Doyle. Davis, meanwhile, landed a running lariat to Mox and followed with a gut-wrench leaping piledriver for a three count.
WINNERS: Wardlow & Davis & Doyle in 16:00.
(Keller’s Analysis: Fun match, if you can look past the arbitrary disregard for any tag rules. They put over Davis strong, and the action between Mox and Davis made you want to see them one-on-one.)
-Excalubur plugged Adam Copeland vs. Josh Alexander was up next. [c]
NOTE: Our live post-show on YouTube starts after the Dynamite portion and we’ll live watch the Collision portion while analyzing the developments from the first two hour portion.
(2) ADAM COPELAND vs. JOSH ALEXANDER- Clockwork Carnage qualifying match
Copeland came out first. Then Alexander. The bell rang 28 minutes into the hour. Stewart said Alexander grew up idolizing Copeland. Excalibur ran through the rules of the Clockwork Carnage match. Alexander dropped Copeland knee-first on the ringside steps before cutting to a double-box break at 3:00. [c/db]
Alexander got in sustained offense after the break. Copeland went for a spear at 9:00, but Alexander stuffed it and then hit three unreleased German suplexes. Copeland yanked on the top turnbuckle pad to try to stop the third. Alexander then applied a standing ankelock. Copeland sent Alexander into the middle turnbuckle pad, coming up short of the top rope. Alexander then sent Copeland head-first into the top side when he side-stepped him as he charged. He then speared Copeland for a dramatic near fall at 10:00.
A minute later, Copeland escaped a superplex attempt and then dropped Alexander on the exposed turnbuckle. He followed with a spear for the win.
WINNER: Copeland in 12:00 to quality for Clockwork Carnage.
(Keller’s Analysis: Good action. Alexander hasn’t been presented on Dynamite in a way where you’d think he had a much of a chance to beat Copeland, though.)
-Afterward, Copeland addressed the crowd. He said the last few weeks have been difficult. He said what a lot of people don’t know is that during “the tables, ladders, and chairs match” two weeks ago, Christian was thrown into a ladder five minutes into the match, and he ended up broken three ribs, one rib in three places, and suffered a collapsed lung. He said despite that, he was standing tall at the end of the match. He said he did it for the work ethic and for the fans. \
He said after that, he had to sit down and do some soul searching. He said he realized his face isn’t on the posters of teenagers walls anymore. He said he is aging out, “and that’s okay; it happens to everybody.” He said he wated to know that 2027 will be his last year in pro wrestling. He said that’s why he has to go for the AEW World Title.
Don Callis walked out with “The Machine” Brian Cage. He said he hated to interrupted Copeland’s “pity party,” but it’s been a great night for the Don Callis Family. He said Davis pinned Mox and the Family is all over this episode of Dynamite. Fans chanted, “F— Don Callis!” He added, “People like you don’t decide on things like timing and retirements. People like me tell talent like you how it’s going to be.” He said he’s usually right on his predictions and he doens’t like his chances of seeing 2027, or even seeing Clockwork Carnage. At that popint, Lance Archer, Kevin Knight, and Kyle Fletcher jumped him. Brian Cage then gave Copeland a faceplant.
Konosuke Takeshita walked out followed by The Conglomeration. As they ran to the ring, The Don Callis Family retreated. Takeshita checked on Copeland.
-Renee narrated a video explaining the Carnage match structure and rules. She said you can beat a champion without winning the match, “and the champ can lose the title without getting pinned.”
(Keller’s Analysis: There was one layer too many – the championship part – for that to make sense.)
(3) “THE MACHINE” BRIAN CAGE vs. KONOSUKE TAKESHITA
The bell rang 48 minutes into the hour. Cage landed a running flip dive over the top rope onto Takeshita at ringside at 2:00. Schiavone said it’s amazing the body control he has for someone his size. Cage threw Takeshita into the ringside steps. Back in the ring, Cage powerbombed Takeshita for a two count. They cut to a partial double-box break. [c/pdb]
Cage gave Takeshita a 619 after the break. Takeshita came back with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count at 9:00. Takeshita landed a sitout powerbomb for a near fall seconds later. Cage made a comeback and stood on the top rope and took Takeshita to the mat with a springboard huracanrana leading to a near fall. Takeshita charged at Cage in the corner, but he sold a knee injury. Cage then superoplexed Takeshita. Takeshita came right back with a Raging Fire.
[HOUR TWO]
They continued to battle back and forth. Cage escaped a standing Dragon Sleeper and landed a leaping knee and then applied his own Dragon Sleeper for a tapout win.
WINNER: Takeshita in 13:00.
-Remee interviewed The New United Empire – Wll Ospreay, “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Andrade, The Brawling Birds. Ospreay said Samoa Joe “wants a bit taste of tonight; well, the Billy Goat’s got a taste of the flavor for you, man.” Speedball said whoever else makes it in, he’ll be ready for them “and that includes you, Will.” Andrade told Ciampa the next time he wants to kiss him, he should buy him dinner first. He said he has just one question for him: “How you know?” Ospreay said they’re there to show everyone the power of United Empire.
(Keller’s Analysis: That didn’t come across as a group of cool people, unfortunately. Andrade is too self-satisfied with the catch phrase and is just leaning too hard on it. Ospreay’s line and delivery was corny.)
-Schiavone interviewed FTR and Stokely Hathaway on the stage. Dax Harwood interrupted Schiavone and said he thought he was at least decent at his job. He said only one thing makes him happy, and it’s not classic matches, his greedy-ass wife, his bratty daughter, or the fans. (He spared the fans an insult.) He said all that gives him joy is being a champion. He said they’ve defeated The Bucks three out of five times. He said he wants someone to explain to him why they aren’t the no. 1 contenders. He called out The Bucks.
The Motor City Machine Guns came out instead. (There was almost no reaction for them. Yikes.) Chris Sabin said FTR’s legacy is undeniable and unreal. He said if there’s any tag team that can match them, it’s them. He said they’ve both created legacies, but they’re not there to live in the past. He said AEW has the greatest tag team division in the history of pro wrestling. He said they’re going to prove they’re the best, starting with beating them.
Alex Shelley said if FTR say beating the Bucks three out of five times put them in line for a title shot, then what if the Guns beat FTR three out of five times. He suggested they wrestle in a best of five series. He suggested they do match one tonight. Stokely cut him off and said he doesn’t like that. He said it’s not happening in Cleveland. He said it’s a big dream series which should kick off on WrestleDream. Fans chanted, “Cleveland! Cleveland!”
-A promo from after last Tuesday’s Dynamite, “Hangman” Page, Brody King, and Bandido cut a promo. Hangman complained about Swerve pulling him from the ring and trying to drag him through the same hell they’ve already been through. Brody said whatever Swerve is doing, it’s working. He said if they have a chance to win the Trios Titles at WrestleDream, they need his head in it. He said strength through unity. Bandido said they will take the most valuable thing they have at WrestleDream – their belts and their honor.
(3) KAZUCHIKA OKADA vs. MYRON REED
Myron Reed made his entrance. Then Okada. The bell rang 12 minutes into the hour. Stewart noted that on Apr. 8 earlier this year, Reed wrestled Okada for the International Title. He said Reed can pull from that experience. Okada dominated early. They cut to a double-box break at 3:00. [c/db]
As Okada was beating on Reed at ringside, Excalibur plugged upcoming matches including the match to fill the slot vacated by the injured Jay White. Reed took over at ringside at 10:00. He then leaped off the stairs with a 450 splash.
When Reed went for a 450 splash in the ring, Okada lifted his knees and scored a two count. Reed went for another 450, Okada moved and then delivered a Rainmaker for the win.
WINNER: Okada in 12:00 to qualify for Clockwork Carnage.
-Excalibur said MJF was recently ranked the no. 1 wrestlers in the world by Pro Wrestling Illustrated. A video aired on MJF’s last title reign.
-They went to The New Level and Prince Nana. Nana said Swerve had to take care of some important family business, so a good friend of his would take his place one night only. “My good friend, Mojo Brookzz,” he said. Comedian/actor Brookzz said he wanted to jump off the top rope onto Brody King. They danced to the ring.
Brookzz plugged WrestleDream. They talked about how Brody, Bandido, and Hangman have to beat them twice in one night.
(Keller’s Analysis: One minute of content seemed to take around 15 minutes. Geesh. Fans want to like both teams, so this doesn’t have a natural heat to begin with, and this just droned on forever without saying anything.) [c]
(4) TRIANGE OF MADDNESS (Thekla & Julia Hart & Skye Blue) vs. MERCEDES MONE & DEVINE DONMINION (Megan Bayne & Lena Kross)
Renee did a ringside report, noting that Theka said it’s her destiny to win the AEW Title. The bell rang 38 minutes into the hour. Mercedes and Thekla opened against each other. Mercedes scored an early two count. At 3:00 Triangle of Maddness put all three opponents in submission holds at once in the ring. The heel trio escaped as they cut to a double-box break. [cdb]
Thekla pinned Kross after teh Sisters of Sin double-teamed her.
WINNERS: Thekla & Hart & Blue in 12:00. [c]
(5) TOMMASO CIAMPA & SAMOA JOE vs. WILL OSPREAY & ANDRADE EL IDOLO
Joe and Ciampa came out first. Then Andrade and finally Ospreay. The bell rang 58 minutes into the hour. Joe opened against Andrade.
(PWTorch’s Joshua White will take over with a written report on the Collision portion of this three-hour live broadcast. That report is posted separately here at PWTorch.)
