12/19 WWE Main Event Report: If you have been craving yourself some Scott Stanford in WWE Studios recapping a busy WWE week, this is for you

By Mike Meyers, PWTorch contributor

DECEMBER 19, 2018

Host: Scott Stanford

  • Experience the disorientation of watching replays within replays.
  • Admire the posh setting of the Stamford WWE studios.

In a change to normal formatting, the show opened in a wood-grained WWE studio with Scott Stanford standing next to a large monitor. Scott explained that he would be the host of a special holiday edition of Main Event, which turned out to be a 100% recap show, highlighting events from TLC and the subsequent episodes of Raw and Smackdown. Scott offered some in-studio introductions, and provided voiceovers to some of the recap videos, as follows:

  • Replay of McMahon family “fresh start” announcements from Raw
  • Replay of Corbin’s handicap match against Angle, Cruise, Gable, and Roode from Raw
  • Replay of Ambrose post-TLC promo from RawReplay of Ambrose vs. Breeze Intercontinental Open Challenge from Raw
  • Promo video for NXT #FreshStart callups
  • Replay of Asuka, Lynch, and Flair bickering in the ring and Vince McMahon berating Lynch from Smackdown
  • Replay of Asuka vs. Naomi for Women’s Championship from Smackdown
  • Replay of Ali & Styles vs. Bryan & Almas from Smackdown
  • Recap of women’s gauntlet match to determine #1 contender to face Rousey from Raw
  • Replay of Natalya vs. Banks, culmination of gauntlet match, from Raw

SHOW SCORE (0-10): 1.2

MEYERS‘ FINAL THOUGHTS:  Unless you’re a neurotic Main Event completist,  there is no reason to watch this episode. Main Event is typically taped prior to Raw, but because WWE had to record next week’s Christmas Eve episode after the live Raw broadcast, there was no time to fit in any Main Event matches at the taping. Behold: The total recap show!
