SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

Tyler Breeze vs. Jaxson Ryker – HIT: A Hit here as this was a good opening match. Something of note here is that Tyler Breeze got the win and he showed some fire during the match, which is something he hasn’t had a chance to show on the main roster. The Forgotten Sons attacked Tyler Breeze after the match and a returning Fandango made the save. Good stuff here. There may be a tag match down the road that comes from this.

Breakout Tournament: Bronson Reed vs. Cameron Grimes – HIT: Another Hit for the breakout tournament. We are now in the semi- finals of a tournament that was made for a young talent to have a chance at any nxt title of his choosing. One person that stood out to me was Cameron Grimes. His style is great, but he also has that little something else that some guys just don’t have. I’d like to see him put it all together and be a real breakout star. This was good and really enjoyable. Grimes got win after short but physical match.

Shayna Baszler and Mia Yim segment – MISS: A Miss here because, while the promo was good, I just don’t buy Mia Yim as a credible challenger, especially considering Shayna has run through and convincingly beat all the women of any serious contendership. Baszler has been built up so strong and dominant, so much so that I have a hard time finding acceptable challengers at this point. She has defeated the entire NXT Women’s Division and Yim has been treading water in NXT for quite some time.

Pete Dunne vs. Roderick Strong – HIT: This is what I love about NXT – good professional wrestling. Both guys are so great and top-level in-ring workers. This was what was expected. It was nicely paced and physical. A strong main event that had the time to tell a good story and get the crowd invested. Pete Dunne got the win by submission to end a fantastic match. Go out of your way to watch this one. After the match Velveteen Dream came in the ring, but Dunne grabbed his fingers and did his finger snap spot. Good angle here setting up their triple threat match at Takeover.

FINAL THOUGHTS: A fantastic show this week. We got two good singles matches. One was the Breakout Tournament semi-finals match featuring Cameron Grimes and Bronson Rees. The other was the main event with Pete Dunne taking on Roderick Strong. They could have progressed Io Shirai and her character change this week but chose not to. The NXT Women’s Division is bland, to say the least. On the other hand, with the addition to the NXT roster of Pete Dunne and the talent from the breakout tournament, NXT is very intriguing and filled with tremendous talent. Looking forward to some of the great match ups in NXT in the near future.
