Lower section was 80 percent filled, upper section tarped off.

Byron Saxton was ring announcer. I thought he did an excellent job all night with the energy and delivery.

(1) Richochet defeated Cesaro in 13:30 via standing moonsault. Crowd was hot for opener, Cesaro played off crowd well. Match had a good touch of everything.

Backstage promo with A.J. Styles, Luke Gallows, and Karl Anderson saying Braun Strowman is in trouble. Could have been my section, but the audio was very difficult to hear.

Miz came out and celebrated his new baby and his latest Miz TV segment with Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair. Andrade and Zelina Vega came out and Vega says Miz TV being popular this week was only due to the legends and nothing to due with Miz. Sami Zayn came out and blasted San Diego, got great heat, and introduced Nakamura.

(2) Shinsuke Nakamura defeated The Miz and Andrade in 13:00 via Kinsasha to Miz. Vega was ejected mid-match for slapping Miz.

(3) Braun Strowman defeated A.J. Styles via disqualification after The OC interfered in 4:00. A cat and mouse match with not much action. Viking Raiders came out to save Strowman from the beat down. Strowman got on the mic and asked if the fans wanted a three-on-three. A.J. said they’re about to whoop their ass and wound up a middle finger.

(4) Braun Strowman & The Viking Raiders defeated The OC in 10:00 via a Strowman running powerslam to Styles. Strowman took his sweet time signing autographs and posing with fans.

Intermission

Saxton said the next match was for one fall. Out came a banged up Kevin Owens. Owens said time for an impromptu Kevin Owens show, gave a shoutout to the fired Shane McMahon, and introduced hometown hero Rey Mysterio Jr. KO told Mysterio it’s an honor to be in the ring speaking with him and more or less gives the whole floor to Mysterio. He seemed to be paying genuine homage. Rey spoke in Spanish for a long time, then referenced his current storyline and Cain Velazquez. He also apologized for being injured, but said for his home crowd he will “always show his face.” Out came Baron Corbin to let Rey know he’s damaged goods, always injured. Corbin backed Mysterio into a corner and asked him what he was gonna do about it. Mysterio said he won’t do anything at all, but KO is waiting from behind with a Stunner. KO’s music hit. He insisted his music be cut and Rey’s be played instead as he quickly left the ring for Rey to get a lengthy exit/ovation.

New Day came out with the pancakes. They really fly far in person! The Revival and Randy Orton came out and they had a legit 10 minute standoff of posturing including Orton having fun with a kid with an AEW shirt.

(5) The New Day (Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston & Big E) defeated The Revival & Randy Orton in 12:00 via Trouble in Paradise to Scott Dawson. Lots of creativity for New Day, definitely letting lose without television restraints. Xavier Woods started a “Randall” chant.

Next came a Harper and Rowan promo from backstage. Harper claimed he came back to inflict punishment.

(6) Bailey defeated Charlotte in 10:30 with a roll-up with legs on rope. The only female participants of the night. Sloppy match and disappointing for the high standard Charlotte has set. Charlotte seemed legitimately hobbled and the finish looked improvised. Both Charlotte and Bailey quickly limped off to the back after the match.

Harper and Rowan came out for the main event. Daniel Bryan came out next to a big pop and got beat down. Roman Reigns’s music hit and Harper met him at the ramp.

(7) Roman Reigns & Daniel Bryan defeated Luke Harper & Erik Rowan via spear in 11:00. Roman laid on the outside of the ring for the first half of the match after being thrown into the steps. Somewhat sloppy of a match, including Harper and Rowan butchering a double chokeslam.

FINAL THOUGHTS: All together an entertaining night. Braun, Kofi, and Sami stuck out to me as performers who were really enjoying their work and masters at connecting with the audience. Talent was definitely given a lot of creative leeway compared to the televised product, but also seemed to avoid big spots as expected for a live show.
