  • “Hangman” Adam Page defeated Adam Cole in a Texas Death Match to retain the AEW World Championship.

This Week

Tonight’s pre-recorded episode of Rampage features four matches including one for the TBS championship and an Owen Hart Cup qualifier.

Owen Hart Cup Qualifying Match: Adam Cole vs. Tomohiro Ishii

It’s crossover time as Adam Cole goes one-on-one with New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Tomohiro Ishii. This was announced Wednesday on Dynamite during the segment where AEW CEO Tony Khan’s announcement of the joint PPV between AEW and NJPW (Forbidden Door) was announced. Cole took over for Tony, who started the announcement alongside NJPW president Takami Ohbari. He claimed his status as a legendary wrestler on the Japanese scene as the reason he should be making the announcement.

Cole wrestled frequently in Japan during his time on the independent scene and for NJPW during his time with Ring of Honor from 2009-2017. He was a member of the Bullet Club alongside the Young Bucks as the under-faction SuperKliq from 2016-2017.

Ishii has been with NJPW for nearly 20 years and was most recently the NEVER Openweight Champion. He is a frequent participant in both the New Japan Cup and G1 tournaments. He began making appearances for AEW starting in November of last year when he teamed with Orange Cassidy to defeat The Butcher and The Blade.

Frank’s Call: Cole with a mild fear of potential shenanigans taking place.

TBS Championship: Jade Cargill (champ) vs. “The Problem” Marina Shafir

After weeks of promos and video package build-up, Marina Shafir gets a crack at the TBS Championship when she challenges Jade Cargill for the title tonight. Shafir defeated Skye Blue in her Dynamite debut on the April 13 edition. This past Wednesday, Cargill stood with Baddies Red Velvet and Keira Hogan and called Shafir a b*tch, but that “that b*tch.” Cargill’s gimmick is “That B*tch Show.”

Cargill is the initial TBS Champion and has held the title since January when she defeated Ruby Soho in the finals of the tournament. She is represented by “Smart” Mark Sterling. As of the latest AEW rankings posted April 13, Shafir was number five with a record of 4-0. Nyla Rose, Serena Deeb, Anna Jay, and Jamie Hayter are all ranked ahead of her in that order.

Frank’s Call: Cargil retains the title with a clean victory.

Everyone Banned from Ringside: Eddie Kingston vs. Daniel Garcia

The feud between Eddie Kingston and the Jericho Appreciation Society writes another chapter tonight when Eddie goes one-on-one with Daniel Garcia with nobody from their factions allowed in the building. This past Wednesday on Dynamite, Eddie said that everything he does to Garcia will be meant for Chris Jericho. Eddie frequently “runs” with former Inner Circle members Santana & Ortiz while Garcia is a member of the Jericho Appreciation Society.

Eddie defeated Jericho at Revolution, but Jericho refused to shake his hand after the match despite saying he would do as such. Jericho appeared to make good on his promise on the subsequent episode of Dynamite, but instead attacked Eddie. He formed the Jericho Appreciation Society along with Garcia, 2point0, and Jake Hager. Hager was a member of the Inner Circle. Jericho, Garcia, and Hager defeated Eddie and Santana & Ortiz on the April 13 edition of Dynamite.

Frank’s Call: Garcia wins with a clean victory, but Eddie gives him a pretty good beating. I’m going to shake off my WWE fears and predict AEW sticks to the script where nobody shows up at ringside. You just know in WWE if they had a stipulation like this that multiple people will show up.

“Murderhawk Monster” Lance Archer vs. Serpentico

Lance Archer goes one-on-one with Serpentico. While there may be no underlying issues between these two men, this is more about Archer’s next mission which will be to take on Wardlow. MJF paid Archer’s manager, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, for the services of Archer to face Wardlow after he defeated The Butcher this past week.

Archer recently challenged “Hangman” Adam Page for the AEW World Championship in a Texas Death match but came up short. Serpentico has appeared mostly on Dark and Dark Elevation, and last appeared on AEW TV proper when he lost to Hook on the January 21 airing of Rampage. He does not hold a singles victory on Dynamite or Rampage

Frank’s Call: Archer wins in quick fashion. There is NO reason for this match to go longer than a minute or two, tops.

Non-Wrestling Segments Announced

Two non-wrestling segments were announced. The first of which will be Tony Schiavone interviewing Dr. Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter, as well as Toni Storm. Storm is set to face Hayter in the quarterfinals of the Owen Hart Cup tournament. Baker herself qualified this past Wednesday by defeating Danielle Kamela and announced her intentions of winning the tournament in a post-match promo. She pointed out Storm, who recently debuted for AEW, having to face Hayter who has been a long-time cohort of Baker’s.

In another segment we were told this past Wednesday we would “hear from” Swerve Strickland and “Limitless” Keith Lee. They have been embroiled in a feud with Team Taz with the latest chapter unfolding on the April 13 edition of Dynamite where Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Strickland and Lee
