-Vic threw to a video package recapping Heatwave, which would’ve been in match order but the two Borne losses were shown back-to-back to tell the story of his heel turn on Tavion Heights. The women’s and then men’s NXT Championships finished the segment, promoting our two new champions ahead of tonight’s fallout show. Kelani Jordan and Shiloh Hill were shown arriving earlier.
-Zilla Fatu made his entrance for an apparent non-wrestling segment. He slapped hands with people outside so any hope that his obvious nepo story would end with him being positioned as a heel was dashed; on the other hand, he’s going to be a very good challenger to chase Grayson Waller. He said although he promised he’d be Champion, things didn’t go his way. He said the stars were aligned but he didn’t get the job done. He said fighting for a WWE Championship felt amazing. He said it’s not only a matter of when, it’s when the main one taks that title (not a typo; he misstated the saying).
Tristan Angels hit the ramp saying “Order, order.” He said Zilla lost and proved he’s not ready to be the main one in NXT, and he’s not even the main one in the family. He said the further down the bloodline we go, the less talent we find. He said Zilla doesn’t look or act like a champion, unlike himself. Zilla said he likes Tristan’s accent but he doesn’t like his attitude. He said he’d gladly wrestle Angels in front of his other family – the one here in Orlando. Fatu got in a couple of shots before Angels skinned out.
-In Rob Stone’s office, EK Prosper and Saquon Shugars were both up in his business about their next matches after their recent performances. Keanu Carver showed up and said these two definitely aren’t the only ones interested in a shot at Grayson. He said Stone was in a pickle and asked what he’s going to do.
-In a promoted segment, Naraku said Shiloh Hill doesn’t truly understand the mystery of the mist. He said he’d show the world that Hill is about to live in darkness. He did his silly laugh and Vic said they’re up after the break. [c]
-In a car selfie video, Myles Borne talked about playing the thing he did to Tavion Heights over and over in his head. He felt some shame, but said he got Tavion before he got him, because he knew it was going to happen again. He said he was unable to make both money and friends and was naive to believe otherwise. Kind of an interesting framing here – much more believable than the usual turn.
(1) SHILOH HILL vs. NARAKU
Standing switches early. Hill took Naraku down but Naraku elbowed out of trouble. Naraku hit a shoulder tackle. Hill returned with a bigger one of his own. Naraku begged off long enough to get in a cheap throat chop. They exchanged shots until Naraku bumped Hill to the floor and followed. Naraku uncovered the table, Vic said “Hey, hold on a second!” and the show went to commercial with no split-screen basically the one time they definitely should’ve used it. [c]
Hill tried to power out of a headlock but Naraku chopped him down and covered for two. Naraku got in a big chop and a couple more. Naraku missed in a corner and they started running the ropes, where Hill hit a big boot and a body slam and standing senton for two. Naraku hung up Hill on the top rope but Hill rolled him up for two. Naraku hit a fireman’s carry spinebuster (called Darkness Falls in New Japan) for two. After some back and forth, Naraku forced green mist into Hill’s eyes (from his hand, unexpected by Hill) and took him out to finish.
WINNER: Naraku at 9:43.
-Earlier today, Noam Dar, Romeo Moreno, Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux talked cordially until DVD got fired up about the eight-man loss they had earlier. This all led to their tag match, up next. [c]
(2) ROMEO MORENO & NOAM DAR vs. SEAN LEGACY & DORIAN VAN DUX
Moreno & Dar did a team entrance while DVD & Legacy each got their own theme music played. Legacy and Moreno opened it up. They went to evasions, then an exchange of arm drags and some lightning-quick mat reversals. Legacy nailed a dropkick. Both guys tagged.
Dar tried to tackle DVD and it went nowhere. Dar strung together quick kicks and strikes but DVD was too tough, and eventually he hit an inside-out lariat. Legacy tagged back in and dropped his legs onto Dar’s worked arm. DVD tagged back in but got stuck in the opposition’s corner and they briefly double-teamed. Moreno tagged in and both of his team hit ankle locks, broken at the same time. Action spilled outside with all four of them there and Legacy & DVD took control heading into break, again with no split-screen. [c]
Moreno missed a lariat and DVD tagged in to dominate Moreno & Dar. Dar hit a headscissor takedown and went up for a moonsault that almost overshot. Vic said “he got all of that moonsault,” which was a weird lie because it was a tailor-made moment to say he didn’t get all of it. The two went to quick reversals, then threw kicks to the head at the same time and fell into tags. Dar and Legacy kept up the speed and Dar trapped Legacy for two. Dar dropped Legacy into an armbar while Moreno broke up a save attempt by hitting a superplex on DVD. Legacy ended up breaking the hold and all four sold on the mat.
Legacy hit (but mostly missed) a tope suicida on Dar. DVD hit an Asai moonsault that took out both Moreno and Legacy. Everyone was briefly involved and Dar & Moreno hit a spinebutter/cutter thing and got two in a believable near-fall spot, because we haven’t seen them win yet. Dar accidentally nailed Moreno and checked on him, leaving him open. I thought this was the out for the loss, but Dar actually trapped a leaping Legacy for the win.
WINNERS: Moreno & Dar at 11:35.
Immediately afterward, the Creed Brothers attacked all four men and Vic said they’re back.
(Wells’s Analysis: With both teams being smaller babyface teams, this was a workrate match, but it never felt egregious or messy, at least. One would think Dar & Moreno are top contenders but the vastly underused Creed Brothers could seriously shake things up. Strange for them to show up just days after heels won the tag championships, though)
-Backstage, Rob Stone asked Zaria which one of her championships would endure. She said she wanted to forget Sol Ruca, so she would happily forget the Speed Championship. Stone turned the other way and ridiculously, all of Birthright was there and he told them because the Speed Title was gone, so is his. Nice of them to explain how this was working beforehand, eh? Cruz Montana showed up and made his case for a title shot. Carver showed up again and said everyone did. He said “Sucks to be you, Stone” and Montana said he had a point.
-Kelani Jordan walked through the back ahead of the next segment. [c]
-Jordan said she and Kendal Grey had a great match and “the best women’s match of the day, if you ask me.” She said Grey said she was going to revolutionize women’s wrestling, so what does that make Kelani? She said after she yanked Grey’s head into the turnbuckle, Kelani’s in the ring while Grey is in the hospital. She said she’s sure Kendal’s good little sidekick Wren Sinclair will show up for her, though. She put over the fact that she was one of the only wrestlers in history to win this championship on her first try. She said nobody does it like Lani and then yelled “I was not finished” as Jaida Parker’s music played.
Parker said Lani won the big one, but Parker eliminated the biggest thorn in her side also. She said she’s already beaten Jordan, and she’s got her gear in the back, so let’s run it tonight. Jordan said she wasn’t surprised that Parker was interrupting a champion on her first night. She said Parker has upped her game a few levels but she’s still a few below Jordan. She fired up the crowd about a match, then pulled the rug under the crowd and said…not tonight. She said she’d see her next week. As Lani left, Thea Hail made her entrance and the two eyed one another warily but didn’t get physical. Hail-Lyons is up next. [c]
(3) THEA HAIL vs. NIKKITA LYONS (w/Karmen Petrovic)
Lyons is vastly improved over the past year, but that entrance mask is still beyond silly. Lyons missed a roundhouse kick right at the bell and Hail struck swiftly and often afterward, covering for two. These two wrestled for the Evolve Women’s Championship a couple of weeks ago in a match where Lyons retained, but I don’t expect that to be brought up here. Lyons monkey flipped Hail up into a rope, then leaned on her in a corner. Lyons tossed Hail and covered her for two. Lyons worked a camel clutch that she quickly transitioned into a chinlock. Hail got to her feet and slammed backward to break.
Hail hit a big headbutt and dropped a knee on Lyons. Exploder by Hail. Running neckbreaker by Hail for two. Hail got caught in a corner and Lyons hit a German suplex. Big backfist by Lyons for two. Thea reversed a double-underhook and trapped Lyons for two. Hail leaped up and cinched in a kimura lock but Lyons broke against the turnbuckle. Roundhouse kick by Lyons, who missed a senton. Hail hit a senton right after for the win.
WINNER: Thea Hail at 4:16.
(Wells’s Analysis: Hail got her win back, though very few NXT fans will know that she had one coming. Decent work but it’s surprising that this didn’t get more time with both women warranting it at this point. I get the feeling this is more about Hail being elevated to be fed to Jordan than to set up anything with the Evolve Championship)
