[HOUR ONE]
-Joe Tessitore introduced the show as they showed arrivals and backstage shots of wrestlers on the show tonight.
-A video package aired on the Roman Reigns vs. Penta match on Raw last week.
-They showed LA Knight arriving. He crossed paths with Penta who then made his entrance. Tessitore called Penta’s match last week with Reigns “an instant classic.” Barrett said even though he lost, he showed he belongs in the upper echelon of WWE.
Penta said Raw last week was one of the biggest moments of his life. He said Roman was the better man last week, but it’s not over. He said he wanted another title shot. Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonaugh then came out to boos. Dom said nobody cares about Penta’s hopes and dreams. JD then pointed out Penta lost, so he shouldn’t be talking about a rematch. He said Dom is going to win MITB and win the World Title long before Penta. Dom said he’s the top luchador and fans want to hear from him. Dom and JD attacked Penta. Penta made a comeback and landed a top rope crossbody block onto both JD and Dom, who then fled.
-Jacob Fatu told the Usos in their locker room that they need to stay on the offense against the 946. Fatu again pushed lying low for now. When he left, Jey and Jimmy looked at each other skeptical of that advice. [c]
-Solo approached the Usos and said they need to unite against the 946. The Usos told Solo he left and asked if he really thought he could just return without acknowledging Roman. Solo, who was jovial, said that won’t happen.
-Iyo Sky made her ring entrance. [c]
-A clip aired of La Catanlina beating Flammer to win at the AAA title at TropleMania 34.
(1) ROXANNE PEREZ vs. IYO SKY vs. LA CATALINA – Money in the Bank qualifier
Tessitore talked about Catalina’s background. Fans chanted for Sky. Catalina dove onto both Sky and Perez as they cut to an early break. [c]
When Sky clotheslined both Perez and Catalina, she set up a top rope moonsult. Perez moved and Sky almost landed on her head. Perez then quickly gave Sky a Pop Rox for the win.
WINNER: Sky in 14:00 t0 qualify.
(Keller’s Analysis: All action and fans remain enthusiastically behind Sky every time.)
-Knight questioned Solo Sikoa about cavorting with The Bloodline. Solo said it wasn’t what he assumed. Knight then shifted to saying if he wins the title and Solo wins MITB, he better not come after him. Solo said Knight is “his boy” and he wouldn’t do that. [c]
-LA Knight came out to his music and got cheered. He said Roman Reigns and Penta tore the house down last week. He said Roman likes to be acknowledged a lot, as if he was ignored by his parents. He said Roman actually won on his own. He said he is truly great and might be the greatest champion of this generation, if not of all time. That got a mix of cheers and boos.
He said he wants to win the World Title, but he knows fans don’t think it’s going to happen. He said the last time he faced Roman, he lost. He said he has lost other opportunities. He hasn’t been able to win the big one. He said he watched last week and thought to himself that maybe no one can beat Roman. He said he thought to himself that is a hard pill to swallow and it’s hard to live with.
He said in the match last week, in the time when The Bloodline would normally run to the ring, there was no Bloodline. He mentioned other instances this year where there was no Bloodline. He said Reigns wants to rewrite his legacy as a dominant champion who can win on his own. “Yippie skippy,” he said. He said Roman has never defeated him on his own. He said his next chance is at Money in the Bank.
“I’m the most self-made son of a bitch in this game,” he said. He said at MITB, he’ll acknowledge Roman acknowledging him when he beats him for the title. He closed with his catch phrases. Barrett said it’s hard to find anyone more confident than that.
(Keller’s Analyis: Good promo from Knight. Fans are behind him 100 percent and mixed when it comes to Roman. He continues to be the person who speaks truth about Roman.)
-Byron Saxton interviewed Je’Von Evans backstage. He told an ebullient Evans that he’s the youngest wrestler to ever qualify for MITB. Evans said he is the youngest and smoothest and he’ll win. The Vision was snickering in the background. Bron Breakker stepped up to him and congratulated him for qualifying. He said Money in the Bank is his, “so it’s no longer your concern.” Evans said, “Oh, it’s like that.” He suggested they wrestle, but he said they outnumber him. He counted and then slapped Bron, then ran away. Breakker paused. Logan asked why he was stopping them from going after him. Breakker said it’s time they start using their heads. He said he’s about to become part of history.
Evans then made his entrance. Barrett asked, “Is this happening? Are we having a match here?”
(2) JE’VON EVANS vs. BRON BREAKKER (w/Logan Paul, Bronson Reed, Austin Theory, Maxxine Dupri)
Tessitore noted they are two of the men in the MITB match taking place in two weeks. The bell rang 56 minutes into the hour. Breakker ducked Evans at the bell and tackled him to ringside. He slammed Evans’s head against the ring apron and then rammed him into the barricade. Breakker threw Evans into the ring.
Evans dove through the ropes and tackled him. Barrett said Evans has to be aware of Bron’s cohorts at ringside. Evans stayed in control in the ring for a minute. Breakker made him break out of the corner, and then Breakker took over. They cut to the rest of The Vision cheering and applauding. A fans held up a sign that said, “Tsunami Jerry Jones.”
Evans slapped Breakker, who tumbled to ringside. Tessitore said he could not believe how Evans was taking it to Breaker. Evans slammed Breakker’s head into the announce desk. Theory mouthed off to him. Evans mocked him and then he side-stepped a charging Breakker, who tumbled into the time keeper’s area. Barrett said it was stunning to watch him mocking The Vision and having too much fun. Evans leaped at Breakker and hit Breakker but also his chest on the barricade. He let out a yell as they cut to a double-box break at the end of hour one.
[HOUR TWO]
[c/db]
Breakker dominated during the break. Evans made a comeback and landed a springboard clothesline. Breakker pressed Evans above his head seconds later. Evans countered with a DDT. Barrett apologized for not realizing Evans was this good. Evans landed a leaping faceplant for a two count. Barrett said Breakker thought this would be “a walk in the park.” When Evans set up a dive to ringside, Maxxine blocked him. Reed distracted Evans and then Theory kicked him. Breakker gave him a spear for a believable near fall. Breaker looked red-faced angry. He lowered his straps and waited for Evans to stand. Tessitore said it was time to “saw him in half.” Evans side-stepped him and sent him into the ringpost shoulder-first.
Evans turned to knock Theory off the ring apron and then leaped over the top rope onto Reed. He followed with another dive on the other side of the ring onto Breakker. He then hit a handspring kick to the head. “What a night for Evans!” said Tessitore. Theory knocked Evans off the top rope. The called for the DQ.
WINNER: Evans via DQ in 13:00.
-Theory held Evans for a Breakker spear when the lights went out and then Oba Femi charged out to his music. He fended off Theory and Reed. Logan slid into the ring with a chair, but then slithered out when Oba stepped on the chair. Oba jabbed a charging Breakker with the chair, then hit him across the back. Reed attacked Oba, but when he picked up a chair, Oba recovered and hit him with an uppercut and then a chairshot. Evans finally stood next to Oba as Oba shouted down at The Vision. Tessitore said, “Only Oba Femi could do that!” Oba then tossed Evans over the top rope onto The Vision. Tessitore called Evans “a human projectile.” Barrett said the one-man bringer of war is back. Fans chanted “Oba!” as his music played.
(Keller’s Analysis: That was the strongest they’ve made Evans look as he survived not just Breakker, but interference from the outside and still survived and was protected with a DQ win. Oba is really over and this was a showcase for him. The timing of the multi-person onslaught was well-done by everyone.) [c]
-They showed Mark Henry at ringside. He stood and waved at the fans.
-They cut to a selfie message from Royce Keys with Bronco Nima and Lucien Price. Keys said nobody is safe. They cut abruptly away mid-sentence.
-Tessitore and Barrett said nobody quite feels at ease at work because of those three lingering.
-They showed Joe Hendry played guitar and sang with fans in the concourse early “JD McDonaugh is a Fungo Pop!”
-The Judgment Day walked to the ring. Liv Morgan was about to speak, but JD said he had something to get off his chest. He said the Fungo Pop thing isn’t funny. He said the fans are lonely losers with low self-esteem projecting their insecurities at him. He promised that none of it affects him. He said he doesn’t care what anybody says, but it affects his family. He said his mom was home back in Ireland stressing out over this all week. He said it has to end tonight. He insisted, “I have a very normal-sized head!” Raquel assured him that’s true.
Raquel called the fans all haters. She said Liv’s music video is way better than “Joe Hendry’s piece of gaga.” Liv then laughed and strutted. She said tonight is all about celebrating their blessings. She said last week in Mexico, they proved they still run Monday Night Raw. She told Stephanie Vaquer that she cannot run from her forever. She said what happened in Chile was a tragedy and a screwjob. She asked for her rematch so she could prove she is still the greatest women’s world champion of all time. Becky Lynch’s music interrupted from the crowd as her music played.
Becky addressed JD. She called him by his full name and said she’s known him since he was 12. She said she called his mother. She said they both expected more from him. She said she won’t stand for slander aimed at her for how she refereed that match. “First crack at that title is mine!” she said.
Vaquer heard that and came out onto the stage to her music. Tessitore said is the woman who earned it. She said Liv and Becky can talk all they want, but she is the women’s world champion. She said she won the title on her own. Liv said that’s not true. She said she wouldn’t have done it without Becky. She said she’d give her a rematch. Becky said, “Excuse me!” Vaquer told Becky she respects her and she was an amazing referee. She said she’d defend against her, too. She said she’d talk to GM Adam Pearce. She held up her belt as her music played.
-A vignette aired on Lyra Valkyria. She said being Bayley’s partner took a year off of her career. She said when she was beating her within an inch of her life at Sunday Night’s Main Event, she had to go to the place you don’t come back from. She said it was worth it to end her and then move onwards and upwards. She said MITB was going to be her chance to do that, yet Bayley managed to cost her another opportunity. She said she’s going to wish their last match was her last match. Dramatic music underscored her words.
-Bayley’s music played and she made her entrance. [c]
-Tessitore noted that John Cena’s original patch card sold at auction for $329,400. He said it set a new record for WWE cards.
(3) BAYLEY vs. LYRA VALKRYIA
Bayley leaped through the ropes and tackled Lyra at ringside. Then she threw her into the ringside barricade and then into the ring. The called for the bell 34 minutes into the hour, rewarding Bayley’s illegal pre-match attack. Lyra made a comeback and landed a leaping legdrop to the back of Bayley’s neck. Bayley fought back, but Lyra landed a leaping wheel kick to stop her comeback. Bayley came back with an odd-looking top rope elbowdrop that was more of a splash for a two count. She followed with another leaping elbow, then they cut to a break. [c]
They continued to battle back and forth. Lyra shoved Bayley away as she went for a Rose Plant. Bayley threw Lyra over the announce desk. Bayley cleared the announce desk. Bayley set up a piledriver, but Lyra escaped and beat the ref’s count. Back in the ring, Bayley stomped away at Lyra. Lyra rolled up Bayley for a three count after throwing her throat-first into the middle rope. Barrett said he thought she had a handful of tights, too.
WINNER: Valkyria in 12:00.
-Chad Gable told Dragon Lee he got the win last week through the skin of his teeth and he’d happily offer him a rematch. As Dragon Lee talked, Ethan Page walked in and accused Gable of avoiding him. Gable told Ethan to go out there and earn it and until then stay away from him. Ethan said, “Fine.” [c]
-Pearce stood on the stage and introduced Lola Vice and offered her a contract. She danced out and said “Hola, Adam!” Pearce said, “Hola, Lola!” Lola said this means everything to her. She said her mom introduced her to glamour and dance, while her father introduced her to martial arts. Roxanne Perez came out and said no one cares about her parents. She said she can teach her a lesson at MITB. Lola heard enough. Perez shoved her. Lola knocked Perez down. Pearce stepped between them.
-They cut to Paul Heyman who was watching the monitor backstage. Breaker walked up to him and stood next to him. Heyman said Oba Femi is still breathing, which is bad, bad, bad for The Vision. Breakker said that means it’s bad, bad, bad for everyone. Heyman looked quizzically at him and said, “Everyone?” Breakker turned to look directly at Heyman and emphasized, “Everyone.” He turned and left.
-They cut to the parking garage where 946 had attacked Solo. They threw him into the back of their SUV and drove away. Fatu and the Usos chased after them, but they weren’t able to catch up to the speeding SUV. The Usos raged at Fatu for not being more proactive. Knight showed up. Fatu said he kept trying to tell them about 946. [c]
[HOUR THREE]
-Tessitore said they were dealing with breaking news. He said 946 abducted Solo.
(4) DOMINIK MYSTERIO vs. DRAGON LEE vs. PENTA (replacing SOLO SIKOA)= Money in the Bank qualifier
Dom was already in the ring. Tessitore said it’d be one-on-one as Dragon Lee made his entrance. Pearce stepped out and announced a replacement for Solo. Penta came out. (They had a graphic suspiciously fast for this one; they’d have been better off using the one with Solo in it just to underscore the idea that the attack wasn’t part of the script.) The bell rang 7 minutes into the hour. Penta landed an early dive as they cut to a break at 2:00. [c]
Dragon Lee landed a double stomp as Dom held himself in position on the second rope in the corner. Penta kicked Dragon Lee. Dom attacked Penta. Dragon Lee kicked Dom into Penta. Dragon Lee telegraphed a cannonball dive through the ropes aimed at Penta, but Dom met him with a 619 and then a scored a near fall. Penta landed a near fall with a Penta Driver. All three were down and slow to get up.
Dragon Lee had Dom covered, but Penta shoved him hard off the cover to stop the count. (That’s how you break up a cover at two!) Lee rallied, but Dom shoved him down. Dom went for a frog splash on Penta, but Penta lift his knees. Lee then gave Dom a Styles Clash for a near fall, broken up by Penta (slightly late). Penta gave Dragon a Mexican Destroyer on the ring apron. Dom then landed a frog splash for a believable near fall. Dom yelled at the ref. He yanked off a top turnbuckle pad.
Penta reversed Dom into the exposed buckle. Barrett ridiculously, absurdly said that should be a DQ. Penta then gave Dom a Mexican Destroyer for the win. “How can you not love everything about him?!” exclaimed Tessitore.
WINNER: Penta in 19:00.
(Keller’s Analysis: So Penta was clearly aligned with 946 in getting Solo removed from the match, right? Just kidding. Penta is getting the push his top advocates have long lobbied for. The presentation of him over the last month has been great.)
