[HOUR ONE]
-Joe Tessitore introduced the show as they showed aerial views of St. Louis.
-A video recap aired of 946 attacking Jacob Fatu last week including Jaida Parker running him down with a car.
-They showed Roman Reigns arrive and get out of an SUV. He fist-bumped the Usos. Jey Uso said they had family business to discuss. Reigns heard LA Knight’s entrance theme and told Jey he had something to take care of first.
-LA Knight made his entrance. He said everyone is buzzing about 946, but his focus is on Roman Reigns and his title shot at Money in the Bank. He said he sees Reigns as “the establishment.” Barrett said Knight sees this as perhaps his last chance to become World Champion. Fans chanted “OTC!” And then when Knight and Reigns had a staredown, a dueling chant broke out of “LA Knight! / OTC!”
Reigns asked Knight if he seems fazed or looks like someone who ever loses their poise. “You think I’m distracted, huh?” He said he thinks he has a shot now with everything he’s got going on. He said he doesn’t, thought. He said he’s been running his mouth and disrespecting his family saying they can’t do things on their own and they never do anything the right way. He told Knight he’s nothing but a giant hypocrite.
Reigns said he busted his ass in hostile territory and defended his title against Penta. “And what do you do?” he said. “You take the bitch route. You take the low road. And you dropped me where I stood.” Reigns said Knight has always had his attention and always been center stage for him. He said he’s a doer and Knight is a complainer. He said they have plans for him. “You’re just another egg in the ommlet and Saturday I’m going to break your bitch ass.” Fans oohh’d. He said the fans know he’s the only mega-star there and only true champion. “I live it, I breath it, I eat it, and when I eat it, it’s at the head of the table.” He yelled, “St. Louis!” into the mic, badly over-modulating. “Acknowledge me!”
Knight, who didn’t flinch the entire time Reigns cut that promo, said: “You know what my problem is with you? Are you the most manufactured, corporate puppet, industry plant I’ve ever seen in my life.” He said they shoved a rocket so far up his ass, he’s surprised he’s not spitting out rocket fuel. He made fun of his teeth being oversized and ultraviolent. He said he’s going to drop him on his head and walk out with the title. He said it’s “just a fact of life.” Fans said his catch phrase with him.
Tessitore said, “Oh, it’s on!” Knight left to his music as Reigns paced in the ring.
(Keller’s Analysis: Knight didn’t shrink in that moment. Reigns was his usual arrogant prick self that fans continue to cheer, and he continues to play into it as validation for his deplorably smug persona. The intensity from both was tremendous, though.)
-They went to Tessitore and Wade Barrett on camera. They hyped upcoming matches on the show and touted the line-up.
-Je’Von Evans made his ring entrance. [c]
(1) BRON BREAKKER & AUSTIN THEORY (w/Logan Paul, Maxxinne Durpi) vs. PENTA & JE’VON EVANS
Penta leaped at Breakker at ringside before the bell. Breakker tackled Penta. Penta threw Breakker into the ringpost seconds later. He kicked Breaker’s legs. Breaker hobbled. Barrett said that could affect Breakker’s ability to climb a ladder on Saturday. Evans and Theory were fighting elsewhere at ringside. Breakker ducked a high kick by Penta, who kicked the ringpost instead. Breakker then clotheslined him. Evans leaped at Breakker. Theory jumped Evans from behind. Theory threw Evans into the ring and the ref called for the bell 24 minutes into the hour.
They cut to an early break at 2:00 with Breakker celebrating after knocking Evans out of the ring. [c]
Breakker and Theory took Evans down with a top rope double-team move. Breakker went for a spear seconds later, cut Evans side-stepped him and then hot-tagged in Penta. Penta got a nice ovation as he went after the newly-tagged-in Theory. Evan tagged back in and hit a springboard clothesline on Theory. Evans slipped on the middle rope and went down. Dupri distracted the ref as Logan threw brass knuckles into the ring. Evans got them first and KO’d Theory for the pin. They cut to Logan at ringside, who looked despondent at the mishap.
WINNERS: Evans & Penta in 9:00.
-Bronson Reed attacked Evans and Penta as they were celebrating. Reed landed a top rope frog splash. Oba Femi’s music played and he ran to the ring. He took on Reed and Breakker. Logan entered, but then fled the ring when Oba stared at him. Breakker and Reed took over. Breakker went for a running spear, but Oba moved and then took over again. He clotheslined Breakker over the top rope. Reed took Oba down and then landed a leaping senton. He climbed to the top rope, but Oba popped up and knocked him to the floor. Theory pulled an irate Reed away as Barrett plugged the Oba vs. Reed match at MITB on Saturday.
Oba told Reed that he has his work cut out for himself on Saturday. He said everyone else is climbing a ladder, but he has a mountain to climb. He said he’ll experience an unfortunate fall from grave. He said he will destroy him and take him to the deepest waters where he cannot swim. He said his ass belongs to him at MITB.
(Keller’s Analysis: The crowd was into Penta and Evans, but then took it to another level for Oba. Wow, is he over. Theory and Breaker took bumps for everyone that really helped put the babyfaces over.)
-A vignette aired with Liv Morgan speaking about getting even with Becky Lynch. [c]
-Highlights aired of Worlds Collide.
-Jackie Redmond interviewed Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee backstage. Lee called Rey “the god of lucha.” He said he still moves like he’s 20. Rey laughed at Big Cass throwing a tantrum last week after his loss. Dominik Mysterio & JD McDonaugh confronted them. Lee suggested they wrestle. JD got heated and accepted the challenge.
-They went to Tessitore and Barrett at ringside. Tessitore threw to “another message” from 946.
-A 946 video aired. Good of WWE to give TV time to a group committing felonies on their TV shows. Royce Keys said there are two left, meaning the Usos, “and once we take them out, it’s the grand prize, because ain’t nobody safe.”
-They went to The Bloodline locker room. The Usos were talking up their intentions against 946. Roman walked in. The Usos nervously stood. Reigns asked why he’s always hearing about 946. He asked if Jacob Fatu was alright. “He was supposed to handle this,” he said. He said Fatu is ordering them around, but he made them captains for a reason. He looked frustrated and told them that he’d handle it himself.
(Keller’s Analysis: WWE in the narrative is not making nearly a big enough deal out of Jayda Parker potentially killing Fatu with a speeding car. They want people to freak out at the attack with a car, but then treat it like it was just a typical heel tactic you might see in a weekly attack.)
-Lola Vice made her entrance. [c]
(2) LOLA VICE & SOL RUCA vs. RAQUEL RODRIGUEZ & ROZANNE PEREZ
Perez and Raquel made their entrance. The bell rang 54 minutes into the hour. Raquel had control of Vice early. Vice made a comeback and tagged in Ruca. Vice and Ruca clotheslined Raquel out of the ring. Vice then leaped off the ring apron with a Thesz Press. Ruca followed with a springboard corkscrew dive onto both Raquel and Perez. [c]
Raquel and Perez were in control after the break. Ruca hot-tagged in Vice who went after Perez with rapid-fire kicks. Ruca fended off an interfering Raquel. They hit stereo hip attacks.
