AEW outdraws NXT easily in their Wednesday battle despite NXT featuring CM Punk challenging Greyson Waller for NXT Title, Cena, Cody

SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

WWE moved this week’s NXT episode on The CW to Wednesday in order to not conflict with U.S. mid-term election coverage and they loaded the show with star-power including John Cena and Cody Rhodes plus CM Punk challenging Greyson Waller in for the NXT Title in the main event. It wasn’t enough to come close to AEW Dynamite’s viewership for their annual Blood & Guts special.

NXT averaged 552,000 viewers compared to AEW Dynamite’s average of 792,000.

Depending on WWE’s hopes, this wasn’t a bad number for NXT on a different night of the week than usual, as it outdrew last week’s viewresp of 520,000, although it was below 673,000 average the prior eight weeks.

AEW is thrilled with their number since, despite having competition from NXT, drew one of its highest ratings of the year. Tthe Pac memorial episode five weeks earlier drew 899,000. It was up from the 620,000 and 661,000 the prior two weeks.

In the key 18-49 demo, it drew 323,000, the highest viewership for AEW on cable since the summer of 2024, another Blood & Guts special, and that was before HBO Max siphoned some viewers away from the TBS measurement. NXT drew 180,000 in the key 18-49 demo.
