SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
WWE Smackdown house show
August 12, 2006
Binghamton, N.Y.
Report by Aaron Waymire, PWTorch correspondent
(1) Funaki beat Chuck Palumbo with a rollup. Palumbo looked pretty big. He wasn’t doing the Chuckie P gimmick that he was using before he got canned a couple years back.
(2) Gregory Helms beat Jamie Noble with The Nightmare on Helms Street to retain the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Noble was still doing the Pitbull gimmick. I liked Helms, he was pretty intense and had a good presence to him.
(3) Paul London & Brian Kendrick beat K.C. James & Idol Stevens when Kendrick hit the Sliced Bread #2 followed by London doing a standing Shooting Star Press on Stevens to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship. I wasn’t a Michelle McCool fan until I saw her live. Wow is all I have to say. I wish London and Kendrick had better teams to work with because they’re great.
(4) The Miz beat Ryan Wilson with a rollup. Worst match of the night easily. Wilson was tall and strong and that’s it. The Miz tried hard to get over, but the crowd was pretty much dead. The best part was after the match when Wilson beat the crap out of him. It was great!
(5) Sylvester Terkay beat Scotty 2 Hotty with a spinning backhand to the face. I’ll be honest, I grabbed a beer during this match. It wasn’t very cold either. Scotty was about to go for the worm, but Elijah Burke interfered, and Terkay hit his finisher.
(6) Rey Mysterio beat Chavo Guerrero with a 619 followed by a springboard splash from the top rope. Before the match, Chavo got on the mic and said he’s out of retirement. He then issued an open challenge to anyone, but hoped Rey had the “balls” to accept. Theodore Long came out and said that Rey would be his opponent. At one point, Chavo tried to take Rey’s mask off and got it halfway, then flung Rey into the ropes, and mask came completely off! Rey scrambled to put it back on. I was in the 3rd row and still couldn’t see a clear look of his face though.

After intermission, Long came back out and explained that the original plan was to have Mysterio challenge King Booker for the World Title. But, since Rey was already in a match, he had to change it. Even though Summerslam is only a couple of weeks away, he’s still going to give Binghamton King Booker vs. Batista for the World Title.
(7) Mr. Kennedy beat Tatanka with a rollup. Kennedy exposed the turnbuckle and dumped Tatanka into it before getting the pin.
(8) Finlay beat Bobby Lashley and William Regal in a three-way match when Finlay hit Lashley with the shillelagh to retain the WWE United States Championship. Finlay and Regal double-teamed Lashley for much of the match before brawling with each other. Lashley is getting very popular, but I would think at some point he’ll have to learn more moves than just a bodyslam, punch, kick, and clothesline.
(9) Batista beat King Booker by DQ when Sharmell was caught giving Batista a low blow. Booker retained the World Championship. Booker has great antics, but man he takes FOREVER to get to the ring. I think about 15 minutes passed by between Booker’s entrance and the match actually starting. Not a bad match, but nothing special. Your basic clothesline, punching contest. Hopefully they’re saving the good match for Summerslam.
Notes: The show lasted a good three hours. It was fun for being a non-televised event (except for The Miz, who nearly put me to sleep). One funny note is that Kristal came out about halfway through and asked how everyone in Syracuse, New York was doing. Uh, sorry, but we’re in Binghamton. It didn’t appear like she was kidding. Thanks to the WWE Diva Search for churning out more and more clueless bimbos like her!
