SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

The following is the latest in a new series of weekly in-depth articles exclusive to PWTorch which will help put in perspective major wrestling promotions with a weekly overview, looking at news and roster developments, results, future line-ups, social media activity, key interviews, plus a timely commentary at the end. We will be featuring similar features on other promotions each week and each will be updated weekly.

•Top Stories of the Week

  • ROH has made some significant signings this week, in both the management level of the company and the talent side.
  • PCO (Carl Ouellet) has reportedly signed an exclusive contract with ROH this week. PCO has enjoyed a career resurgence on the independent scene this past year. This may be seen as an upset by some that ROH was able to sign a notable independent talent, due to WWE’s recent monopoly on “Indie” talent recently.
  • ROH has also signed former WWE creative team member Kevin Eck to a full time position. Eck was a part of the creative team at WWE from 2011-2014. Eck’s position in the company has not been disclosed, but look at future creative decisions to see if Eck has any influence going forward.
  • ROH’s Biggest PPV of the year Final Battle is coming up next week. The card has remained the same since last week. As it has been greatly reported, this will most likely be the last ROH show featuring members of The Elite, sans Marty Scurll.

•Live Event Results

There were no Live Events this week for ROH.

•ROH In The Media

There have not been a lot of media appearances by ROH talent in the recent weeks. The BTE crew had a follow up episode to the exorcism of Cody. This was another fun and light episode for the group.

With the soon-to-be lack of “Elite” talent, I wonder if PCO will take the mantle of internet darling. If you have not seen any of his videos on Youtube, I suggest you check it out.

•LATEST “TALKING HONOR” PWTORCH LIVECAST COVERING ROH

“Changing of the Guard.” This week Emily Fear and Harley R. Pageot discuss PCO and Brody King signing with ROH, Silas Young re-signing, the build to Christopher Daniels vs. Marty Scurll and Jeff Cobb vs. Adam Page at Final Battle, and what an ROH without The Elite might look like.

•Social Media Scene

Below is this week’s round-up of social media posts from ROH personalities.

Just a bit of the weirdness of PCO and Destro.

The absolute soon-to-be legend on ROH TV!

Hit up Dalton on Cameo!

A Cody Pod? Yes please!

•Closing Commentary

The past few weeks I have talked about the future of ROH. I would like to continue that theme here as well.

ROH signing talent like PCO shows that they are able to compete with other large brands in terms of free agent acquisitions. The storytelling of ROH has always been vanilla at best. The in-ring product has always been the main goal of the promotion. The BTE guys have flourished because of their creativity outside of the ring and ROH. Hopefully, ROH will take advantage of someone like PCO and have more layered storytelling.

Luchasaurus has also been added to the TV tapings after Final Battle. I can say that I am biased, but after seeing him perform live, I truly think that he could be an ROH World Champion. He has the size, in-ring ability, and natural charisma to make it to the top of the industry.

Overall, I like the direction ROH is going and that it’s not resting on its laurels. It shows that ROH will always be on the cutting edge of the industry. As a fan of the product, it is nice to be reminded of that every so often.
