[HOUR ONE]
-They opened with a scene of the entrance stage decorated for the Halloween theme as Excalibur introduced the show.
(1) ORANGE CASSIDY & DARBY ALLIN vs. WHEELER YUTA & DANIEL GARCIA
As Cassidy made his entrance, Excalibur said Cassidy’s first Dynamite appearance was a few years ago on the Halloween-themed episode. (It was weird they didn’t specify the year or date, and it was weird Excalibur said tonight isn’t Cassidy’s first appearance on Dynamite.) Darby made his entrance next. The bell rang 4 minutes into the hour.
Danielson said it turns his stomach to admit it, but Yuta has become an effective tag wrestler with Garcia. Darby dove through the ropes onto Yuta which got Excalibur’s Santa-like “ho ho ho!” (I don’t get when announcers react to wrestling moves that are supposed to hurt as if they just saw a cute animal pull off a funny stunt or trick.) They fought into the crowd. Yuta charged at Cassidy from the side and tackled him. Excalibur called it a cheap shot. Danielson corrected him by saying it’s not a cheap shot in a tornado rules match. Darby leaped onto Garcia and Yuta with a Coffin Drop from the seating area (which Excalibur called “the upper level,” which was a stretch).
Back at ringside, Darby hit Garcia with a running dropkick off the ringside barricade. They cut to a double box break at 4:00. [c/db]
After the break, Garcia and Yuta were in control. They showed that during the break, Yuta knocked Darby off the top rope as he was setting up a Coffin Drop on Garcia. Garcia and Yuta set up a table at ringside. Cassidy took them down with a hand-in-pocket dropkick followed by a kip up. Cassidy followed with a DDT on Yuta. Garcia put Cassidy in a sleeper. He shifted to a guillotine. Yuta then leaped off the top rope and splashed Cassidy through a table at ringside.
Darby and Garcia squared off in the ring. Darby rolled his skateboard to Garcia and dared him to hit him, but then gave Garcia a Code Red for a two count. Yuta knocked Darby off the top rope again. Cassidy raked Yuta’s back seconds later.
Darby landed a Coffin Drop. Yuta kicked out because Garcia was late with a save. Actually, it most looked like Darby lifted Yuta’s shoulders. Weird sequence. They even replayed it. Cassidy gave Garcia an Orange Punch and then gave Sole Food to Yuta. Darby then put Yuta in a Scorpion Deathlock mid-ring for the tapout win.
WINNERS: Darby & Yuta in 11:00.
(Keller’s Analysis: Wild opener with a lot of rapid-fire spots in and out of the ring.)
-They showed Hook rolling his bags into the arena. He said he is obviously the underdog in the match later. He said he’ll have his hands full and wouldn’t have it any other way. He said he wants to win a title shot, but he’ll also do his best personally to make sure Joe doesn’t advance tonight. He said Joe decided to show the world who he is, but he already knew.
(Keller’s. Analysis: That just might’ve been Hook’s best promo. It was short, but he sounded normal and believable in his delivery.) [c]
-Renee Paquette interviewed Don Callis backstage. She asked about healing tensions between Konosuke Takeshita and Kazuchika Okada. Callis said things have never been better in his family. He then saw The Young Bucks and invited them to join his family. He said they had vowed they never would join them, but maybe it would help them have a family to watch their backs. He said he arranged for a special entrance theme for them. He couldn’t resist calling the guy starting their entrance theme, “Production Jobber.”
-The Bucks made their entrance as Callis appeared on the big screen and handled their ring introduction, full of superlatives. Pyro blasted after the Bucks posed. The Bucks seemed impressed by what Callis put together for them.
(2) THE YOUNG BUCKS vs. FTR (w/Stokely Hathaway) vs. JURASSIC EXPRESS (Jack Perry & Luchasaurus) vs. JET SPEED (“Speedball” Mike Bailey & Kevin Knight) – Winner receives an AEW Tag Team Title match at the AEW Full Gear PPV
Excalibur said there would be no outside interference, so Stokely had to join them on commentary rather than at ringside. Danielson said that was a great call for TK to ban interference.
(Keller’s Analysis: If someone interfered here, just like always, it’d be cause for a DQ if they got caught. All TK did with this edict is put Stokely a few extra feet away from interfering.)
The bell rang 27 minutes into the hour. It didn’t take long for Danielson to point out it’s tough for the ref to tell who is legally in the match. Perry eventually tagged in and cleared the ring of Cash and Dax. When he flipped over the top rope toward them, they caught him and dropped him on the announce desk.
Speedball dove onto Cash and Matt at ringside. Dax caught Knight on the top rope and suplexed him into an awaiting crowd at ringside. They cut to a break at 5:00. [c/db]
Luchasaurus tagged in and went after the Bucks and FTR in opposite corners. Knight dropkicked Perry off of Bailey’s shoulders and he landed on the awaiting FTR and Bucks under him. Knight splashed Luchasaurus in the ring and scored a two count. The Bucks went on the attack on Luchasaurus and Perry. Speedball entered and rallied. The Bucks entered and hit a series of stereo superkicks and then a BTE Trigger on Knight for a near fall at 12:00.
Knight landed a UFO splash on Perry. FTR then promptly gave Knight their Shatter Machine and Dax scored a three count.
WINNERS: FTR in 14:00 to earn an AEW Tag Team Title match at Full Gear.
(Keller’s Analysis: Exciting all-action match without much selling along the way except when they weren’t involved in the next spot. What you’d expect in a match like this in AEW.)
-A vignette aired with “Hangman” Adam Page talking about Samoa Joe’s turn on him.
-Excalibur hyped upcoming matches on the show. [c]
-Don Callis entered the ring for a family summit with Rocky Romero, El Clon, Kyle Fletcher, Okada, Josh Alexander, Mark Davis, and Lance Archer. Danielson said Takeshita was not there. Callis introduced the segment and asked Romero to speak first. Romero said they are the largest and most dominant faction in pro wrestling. He said not everyone could be there due to injuries or travel issues. He revealed a painting of Don Callis and his family with a muscular shirtless Callis. Alexander threw to a video package of Callis Family highlights.
Fletcher stood and read a vow outloud that he was committed to protecting the secrets of the family and aid a brother in distress no matter the risk. Takeshita interrupted. Danielson said he looked irked. Takeshita entered and Callis approached him and said, “You made it!” Okada stood and walked over to Takeshita. Takeshita stared him down. Callis told Takeshita he named him The Alpha, but now they’re an entire family of alphas. He said it’s to be expected and desired to have some push and pull from within, but they are ultimately a family.
Callis said, “How does the Callis Family Succeed? We succeed by listening to what I want!” he said. He said he decides what happens. He told Takeshita he needs him to put his ego aside and shake Okada’s hand. Okada nodded and stared down Takeshita. Takeshita snarled a bit and didn’t otherwise flinch. Callis said it’s about his honor as a wrestler and member of the family. He asked him to shake Okada’s hand for him. Takeshita finally reached out. Okada reached toward his hand, but then lifted his hand and gave Takeshita the middle finger gesture. Okada laughed. Fletcher, Romero, and El Clon emphatically told Takeshita to stay in place and not react. Callis insisted they show they can work like a family by teaming together on Collision on Saturday.
-A vignette aired on Olympia, whom Excalibur called one of the most promising, powerful wrestlers from CMLL. It showed her win on Collision and executing power moves. She said she wanted to reclaim what belongs to Amazonians. (I think she can just return it to a local Kohls.)
-Renee interviewed Kris Statlander. She said Mercedes can ask her anything on her mind. She struck an awkward pose with her belt and then left.
(Keller’s Analysis: I think Stat might just be an alien because there is nothing that feels naturally human about her mannerisms or facial expressions, but more like an alien trying to imitate what a wrestling promo done by an actual Earthling would look like.)
[HOUR TWO]
(3) KYLE O’REILLY vs. JON MOXLEY (w/Marina Shafir)
A clip aired of Moxley getting DQ’d for hitting the referee last week rather than tapping out to O’Reilly. Mox then made his entrance. The bell rang 3 minutes into the hour. Mox tossed O’Reilly over the top rope a minute in and they cut to a very early double-box break. [c/db]
Mox was in control after the break. O’Reilly countered into an anklelock, but Mox escaped to ringside. O’Reilly gave Mox an armbar at ringside. Shafir distracted O’Reilly, but O’Reilly countered a Mox move at ringside with a guillotine. The ref counted them both out. Fans booed.
WINNER: Double countout at 11:00.
-Shafir attacked the referee. Some fans cheered. Mox then gave O’Reilly a running uppercut. Shafir grabbed a chair. The rest of The Conglomeration ran out, but Yuta and Garcia helped Mox. Darby ran out with a skateboard in hand with Cassidy and Mark Briscoe, so the heels fled to ringside. Darby asked why they were running. He said they should settle it now. He said they’ve both suffered over the last year and it’s time Mox suffers more. Briscoe said the Death Riders are fake-ass tough guys because they like to skedaddle. Garcia and Claudio held back Shafir. Briscoe told Cassidy to tell everyone. Cassidy said, “Blood and Guts.” He then dropped the mic. Excalibur and Danielson reacted with shock. Mox acted panicked and enraged.
(Keller’s Analysis: Shafir was the only badass of the Death Riders, as she had to be held back constantly.) [c]
-Mercedes and Statlander were brawling backstage after the break. They brawled to the ring. Athena yanked Stat off the ring apron and threw her into the ringside steps. Excalibur said she bailed out Mercedes. Mercedes and Athena double-teamed Stat. Mercedes put Stat in a Mone Maker. Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron ran out for the save. Excalibur said Mercedes & Athena will face Willow & Harley next week on Dynamite in a first round match of the Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament.
-Excalibur plugged the Bandido vs. Mascara Sagrada on Collision this Saturday for the ROH Title. A clip aired of Sagrada shining in a three-way match against Okada and Takeshita at All Out.
-A Bandido segment aired. He drove with is grandmother to San Antonio to watch him wrestle for the first time in person. She commented in Spanish how thrilling it was and how proud she is.
(4) SISTERS OF SIN (Skye Blue & Julia Hart) vs. AMINATA & JAMIE HAYTER – AEW Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament match
Excalibur said Penelope Ford’s arm injury might prevent her from wrestling in the tournament. The bell rang 29 minutes into the hour. They cut to a double-box break at 3:00. [c/db]
Blue and Hart kicked Hayter and Aminata. Hayter and Aminata gave them clotheslines. Then all four were down and slow to get up. Thekla came out from under the ring and attacked Hayter. Excalibur mistakenly referred to her as Julia. Blue then drove Aminata face-first into the mat for the win.
WINNERS: Blue & Hart in 10:00 to advance to second round.
-Tony Schiavone asked Ford for an upset on her arm injury. She said she tore her UCL and she is out indefinitely and isn’t cleared to compete. She said those tag titles were her destiny and she’s going to make every woman feel the pain she is now because that’s what they all deserve. Megan Bayne said their plans are delayed, but the division hasn’t escaped. She said anyone can step up and she’ll decide who is worthy to stand beside God. “Don’t worry, I’m listening,” said Shafir. Mox walked up and smiled said, “These two? Look out!” [c]
(5) HOOK vs. SAMOA JOE vs. RICOCHET vs. BOBBY LASHLEY – Winner Receives AEW World Title match against “Hangman” Adam Page at AEW Full Gear
When Joe came out, Danielson said he’s not sure if there’s a tougher man in AEW. The bell rang 48 minutes into the hour. Danielson said Lashley is undefeated in singles competition in AEW and has yet to get a World Title match. Joe shoved Hook off of Lashley so he could punch away at him. Hook went after Joe. Danielson talked about Hook being a former member of The Opps. Lashley threw Joe into the ringside steps. Ricochet went after Hook, but Hook stood up to him. Ricochet backed down and bumped into Lashley. Hook suplexed Ricochet. Lashley then speared. him. Hook gave Ricochet a Northern Lights suplex into a bridge.
Hook then went after Lashley. Lashley brushed him off and then threw him over the top rope onto the ring apron and then knocked him to the floor. Lashley chokeslammed Hook onto the ring apron. Ricochet leaped at Lashley at ringside. Joe then dove through the ropes and tackled both of them. They cut to a break at 3:00. [c/db]
Ricochet landed a handspring elbow onto Joe at ringside. He then leaped off the top rope onto Hook with a Shooting Star Press for a near fall at 10:00. Ricochet went for a Spirit Gun, but Hook blocked it and applied Red Rum. Joe broke it up with a senton splash onto both of them. Joe set up Hook for a Muscle Buster. Lashley speared Joe. Ricochet then landed on Lashley to “break up the cover.”
Ricochet set up Vertigo on Hook, but Hook countered with a roll-up. Ricochet hit Lashley at ringside with a chair. Lashley brushed it off and chased Ricochet up the aisle. Joe put Hook in a Coquina Clutch and got a tapout win. Lashley wasn’t able to get to the ring to break it up in time.
Joe celebrated his win with Powerhouse Hobbs and Katsuyori Shibata.
WINNER: Joe in 13:00 to earn a rematch against Hangman.
-Schiavone interviewed Joe in the ring. He said they were going to the “Fright Night” contract signing. Excalibur said they weren’t wasting any time. Six people came out in Halloween outfits. Schiavone handed Joe the contract. Joe said he wants to be sure he’s safe. He told Hobbs to clear the ring of the people in costumes. Joe joined in. Excalibur said he thought Hangman was the chicken since he was last time, but Joe unmasked him and it wasn’t. Joe signed the contract. They wandered aimlessly in the ring for a few seconds. Joe said Hangman is apparently not quite as creative as he used to be. He apologized for the carnage. He said Hangman’s days are numbered and he will soon relieve him from the burden. He said he is the next AEW Champion.
“Schiavone,” from ringside, said it’s official now. (So Hangman pre-signed the contract?) Schiavone told The Opps to celebrate with beers. “Schiavone” was actually Hangman dressed as Schiavone in his Halloween mask. He then revealed it was him. Joe played dumb as Hangman beat up Hobbs and Shibata behind mic. He then attacked Joe and broke a (candy sugar) beer bottle over his head. Officials ran in and pulled Hangman away.
(Keller’s Analysis: That, unfortunately, felt like an awkward walk-through before the show as it was just filled with awkward pauses and a confusing structure. Why wasn’t Hangman at the contract signing? Hangman dressing as Schiavone was sorta clever, but what advantage did it really give Hangman? Hangman could have come out to the ring for the contract signing and still attacked Joe.)
