[HOUR ONE]
-They opened with an aerial scene of downtown Dallas, Tex. as Michael Cole introduced the show. They showed Seth Rollins walking backstage as Cole hyped the Summerslam contract signing. Then they showed Penta, Iyo Sky, and The Vision including Maxxine Dupri with Austin Theory but without Paul Heyman.
-Heyman and Brock Lesnar made their way to the ring. Lesnar was all smiles. Heyman said the local police were there because of Oba Femi, whom he said is obsessed with Lesnar. He said he is actually in the stalker category and “the biggest dummy I have met in my entire life” because he turned down a title shot. He said he’s like a psycho ex-girlfriend. He said everyone knows he is telling the truth. Heyman said once someone is hit by Lesnar, they’re not as obsessed about him anymore. He said Lesnar is also obsessed with Oba Femi.
Heyman said he got a restrainer order against Oba but also Lesnar. Lesnar looked surprised and eyed Heyman as if he didn’t approve. Heyman winced and looked down as he said he knew Lesnar would comply because he is a law abiding citizen. Lesnar relaxed and smiled, at which point Oba Femi’s music played and he came out. Fans chanted, “Oba! Oba!” as he strutted down the aisle.
The policemen entered the ring and stood in front of Heyman and Lesnar. Heyman told the officers to do their job since Oba broke the restraining order. Oba entered the ring. Ome officer stepped forward and told hm he had to put him under arrest. Oba tossed him over the top rope and then beat up the the rest of the officers. He threw one of them onto a group of four at ringside. Oba said Lesnar used to run the place, but now he runs away.
Oba said if he had gone for the title, everyone knows Lesnar would have cost him the match anyway. He said at Summerslam, no more more games and no more low blows. “You can’t run from Oba Femi!” he said.
(Keller’s Analysis: Eh. The whole “beating up police officers” just screams “don’t take any of this seriously” and made the segment not much more realistic than a Danhausen curse segment. There was no need for that. Everyone knows if Oba was really beating up officers, he’d be arrested, so the only way the segment makes any sense is if you bake into your viewing of it that it’s all fake and a show, which undercuts the “buy in” potential of viewers watching it. There are so many ways to build this match effectively, but that wasn’t the best option. Whatever happened with Heyman, Lesnar, and Oba before the police getting beat up was wiped away by eye rolls.)
-They went to Cole and Corey Graves at ringside. Cole said they had put together a multi-part series on the history between Seth and Roman.
-A video aired on the Seth and Roman relationship in The Shield. There wasn’t much Dean Ambrose other than quick cutaways or angles where Seth or Roman were blocking him.
-Graves hyped the contract signing for them later. Cole said Roman would be joined by New York Knick Jalen Brunson on Saturday at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
-Iyo Sky made her ring entrance. [c]
-They cut to a wide shot of the exterior of the arena.
(1) IYO SKY vs. ROXANNE PEREZ (w/Raquel Rodriguez, Liv Morgan)
A recap aired of last week’s happenings with this group. The bell rang 22 minutes into the hour. Cole said Graves was inferring things when he meant he was implying things regarding dissension within the Judgment Day. Sky flip dove onto Perez at ringside and then played to the crowd. Liv walked up to Sky and yanked on erh boot. Perez then swept Sky’s leg from behind and stomped on her leg at 3:00. [c]
Iyo raised her knees on a Perez springboard moonsault attempt off the middle rope. Sky eventually applied a crossface at 10:00. She followed up with a knee to the chin. She set up a top rope moonsault, but Raquel distracted the ref. Sky kicked Raquel, but that opened up Perez to roll up Sky. Sky rolled through for a leverage three count.
WINNER: Sky in 11:00.
-When Perez, Raquel, and Liv triple-teamed Sky afterward, Sol Ruca ran out. Raquel slammed Sol into the ringpost powerbomb-style. Liv then gave Oblivion to Sky. Liv then hit Sky with the title belt as Raquel and Perez held her.
-A video package aired on the Smackdown happenings with Jimmy Uso, Royce Keys, Solo Sikoa, and Jacob Fatu.
-The Vision made their entrance. [c]
-A clip aired of Austin Theory & Bron Breakker winning the WWE Tag Team Titles on Raw last week thanks to help from Logan Paul and ultimately Dupri.
-Logan began the in-ring segment by saying they couldn’t have done it last week with out Durpi. As Dupri was about to talk, Otis and Akira Tozawa walked out. Tozawa asked Dupri if they could talk. Dupri asked Theory, Breakker, and Logan to leave the ring. They did. Tozawa then told Dupri, after a few emotionally loaded deep breaths, “Maxxine, what are you doing?” He was teared up and he pounded his chest as he said, regarding Theory, “This guy is all wrong for you.” Dupri said she still loves them, but it’s her choice. Fans booed. Fans chanted, “You sold out!”
She said they told her if she was with Austin, she couldn’t be with them. “I don’t think that’s fair,” she said. “You don’t even know him.” Otis said Theory is “bad news.” Theory smiled at ringside and said, “I’m a bad boy!” Otis said he had something to say to her. Theory laughed and said, “This is so funny.” He stood on the ring apron and asked Otis if he was confessing his feelings for Dupri. He asked if it was a fairy tale. “Look at you,” he said.
Theory said fans are booing because they’re just like him. “People like you don’t end up with people like her,” he said. “So let’s get something straight here, buddy. She’s with me now. So keep your fat, disgusting, nasty, musty, crusty – did I say fat?” At that point Otis attacked him. Tozawa leaped over the top rope, but Breakker blocked him and overhead tossed him onto the announce tale. Breakker and Theory stomped away at Otis as Dupri looked on, seeming concerned. Otis fought back, though. Dupri yelled, “Stop!” Otis clotheslined Breakker over the top rope and he bumped onto his head on the ring apron before crashing to ringside.
Dupri told Otis, “None of this had to happen!” She leaned in and was aboutto kiss him when Theory gave him a low-blow from behind. Dupri smiled and then got nasty and said, “Did you ever really think it would ever be us?” She turned to Theory. Theory went back after Tozawa. Breakker then returned to the ring and speared Tozawa. Dupri gave Theory brass knuckles. Theory put them on and punched Otis. Duri leaned in the corner and watched. Cole said this was all happening because of her. “What a disgusting human being,” Cole said. Theory said, “Love makes you do crazy things.” Theory yelled at Otis that no one likes him and he’s finisher. He said she never liked him. Breakker then speared Otis after rebounding off the ropes back and forth to gain speed. Cole said, “Alright, you made your point!”
Logan joined Theory, Dupri, and Breakker in the ring as they stood over Otis’s body.
(Keller’s Analysis: There was some serious crowd heat on Dupri there. Otiz and Tozawa aren’t a top team, but the fans sympathize with them. Dupri and Theory came across smug and arrogant enough that fans gave them the reaction any heel duo like that should be looking for.)
-They went to Cole and Graves at ringside. Graves said he didn’t like what happened, but Otis and Tozawa didn’t have to interrupt their segment and come to the ring. Cole threw a vignette on War Games.
-A video hyped that War Games was coming to Houstin at Survivor Series in November.
(Keller’s Analysis: Boy, you sure hope things play out in WWE in a way that there’s a good reason for two groups of opposing wrestlers to need to settle their feud in a double-cage grudge match.)
-A vignette aired on Dominik Mysterio saying he’s walking out of Summerslam as a double-champion again. Rusev said he will advance to Summerslam to get an IC Title match. Chad Gable said he’s going to win in his hometown of Minneapolis. Ethan Page said he’ll stomp out every pro wrestler in the Gauntlet and build his legacy. Dragonn Lee said facing Penta at Summerslam means the world to him so he’ll fight with the spirit and fire of Lucha Libre. Joe Hendry said the world is believing in a new IC Champ. Je’Von Evans said he’s. going to win. [c]
[HOUR TWO]
(2) ROYCE KEYS vs. JIMMY USO
This match was joined in progress after the break. Cole noted this was Royce’s first match on Raw. They showed on split screen a clip of Royce attacking Jimmy in the aisle so GM Adam Pearce made the match. Jimmy wasn’t pleased. Keys was in control early. Graves said he has respect for Royce, but he needs to stay out of family business. Jimmy made a comeback and landed an enzuigiri to knock Royce to ringside. Royce caught Jimmy leaping off the ring apron. Royce rammed Jimmy into the edge of the announce desk. When he charged Jimmy, Jimmy caught him and suplexed him onto the announce desk. They cut to an early break. [c]
As Royce made a comeback, they cut to a split screen of an SUV arriving. Jacob Fatu got out and headed right to the ring. Royce landed a Sky High for a near fall at 9:00. Fatu attacked Royce. The ref called for the bell.
WINNER: Fatu in around 9:00.
-Fatu attacked Royce. Cole said Fatu and Royce were as close as brothers, but now he has turned against him out of loyalty to the family. Fatu grabbed a chair and yelled, “I didn’t want to do this to you!” Graves said it was hard to watch. Cole said it was heartbreaking in many ways. He put a chair up against Royce in the corner. Solo Sikoa enetered the ring and told hm to stop. He said he gets it and understands. “I was lost and left my family and I was being stupid, okay?” he told Fatu. “Now I understand.” He said he knows blood is thicker than water. He said, “So I’m coming home to the family.” Jimmy looked on in shock as Solo stood mid-ring and raised his fist. Jimmy smiled and joined him. So did Fatu. Solo then caught Jimmy with a sudden Samoan Spike. He fended off Fatu next. Cole said he was a rebel with a cause. After Solo turned back to Jimmy, Fatu recovered and attacked Solo. Royce entered the ring, but Jimmy superkicked him. Fatu put Solo in a Tongan Death Grip. LA Knight’s music then played.
Knight cleared the ring by hitting Fatu with a chair. Royce and Solo were withy Knight in the ring as Fatu and Jimmy regrouped at ringside. Knight invited them to come get another piece of him if they want it. He told them to call Jey, whom he called “The Unfortunate Event,” and have a match against the three of them at Summerslam. Cole said the saying goes “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Graves said it was an alliance of necessity.
-As the camera showed The Theory celebrating their night. Heyman stepped out of the locker room and applauded. He said, “Now that’s what I call a vision for the future.” Theory asked if he was happy. Heyman said he ecstatic. He said he is proud of all of them. He said Logan is “healing faster than Conor McGregor.” Theory asked, “So, we’re all back together now?” Heyman said, “Now that’s a great question. What the hell do you need me more?” He then walked away.
-Graves wondered if Heyman just handed control of The Vision over to Maxxine.
-A video package aired on Hell in a Cell. [c]
-Pearce was on the phone with someone and said he would be there if he was needed. Oba Femi showed up. Pearce told him there was no restraining order against him. Oba said he knew and he said that shows that Heyman is scared. Oba said if he thinks what he did to Lesnar before was bad, just wait until Summerslam.
(Keller’s Analysis: I feel better about Oba beating up the “police officers” if the premise now is that Oba always knew the police were hired thugs by Heyman and that there never was a restraining order. It also removes the issue of Oba being in legal trouble as a result of assaulting police officers.)
-Bayley music faded as Bayley stood in the ring. She called Lyra Valkyria to the ring. Cole said Lyra looked like the sea hag from Widow’s Bay. Bayley suggested she apologize. Lyra said Bayley should apologize to her. She said she is trying to make herself out to be the victim since she has had friends “leave her in the dust.” Lyra said that’s happened to her, too, but she doesn’t make it her entire personality. She said she was lying all along to Bayley. “You’re not a locker room leader, you’re a doormat,” Lyra said. “Your face doesn’t belong on the posters. You do drag down every person you work with and you have always been the worst of the Four Horsewomen.”
Bayley said she should have known bringing her out there was a big mistake. She said she’s not as special as she thinks she is. Bayley touted her Grand Slam champion status and Royal Rumble win. She said she’s going to add to her accomplishments by beating her ass at MSG on Saturday. She threw down the mic. Lyra went after her, but Bayley slugged her. Lyra made a comeback and gave her a Bayley to Belly.
-A teaser aired with John Cena talking about the fans wanting him back, a plug for “WWE Unreal” that drops next week.
-A vignette aired on the break-up of The Shield. [c]
(3) DOMINIK MYSTERIO (w/JD McDonagh) vs. ETHAN PAGE vs. JE’VON EVANS vs. CHAD GABLE vs. DRAGON LEE vs. JOE HENDRY – Winner Receives Intercontinental Title match at Summerslam
The bell rang 34 minutes into the hour. They opened with Dominik vs. Hendry. Dom threw Hendry into the ringside steps. McDonagh distracted Hendry. Dom took over and landed an enzuigiri and a frog splash leading to a pin.
ELIMIINATION #1: Hendry via Dom in 5:00.
Evans made his entrance as they cut to a break. [c]
Evans and Dom battled back and forth. Evans had Dom down and took off his t-shirt. JD distracted Evans, so the ref threatened to send him to the back. As JD protested on the ring apron, Evans hit him. Dom then attacked Evans and set up a top rope move. Danhausen’s music played and he drove out. He pointed at Dom and yelled that he was cursed. He shot off pyro, but it blasted from the wrong corner. Dom sent JD to go after Danhausen. Evans caught Dom with an OG Cutter for the pin.
ELIMINATION #2: Dom via Evans in 11:00.
Dragon Lee made his entrance next. Lee went on the attack and landed a running flip dive to ringside just before they cut to a break. [c]
Evans leaped at Lee at ringside. When he went for a springboard move back in the ring, Lee kicked him out of mid-air and scored a near fall. Lee gave Evans a jumping rana off the ring apron. Back in the ring, he hit a tornado DDT off the middle rope for a near fall at 17:00. Fans chanted, “This is awesome!” Evans ultimately scored a three count with a counter on the mat into a leverage pin. Evans stood and shook Lee’s hand in a show of respect.
ELIMNATION #3: Lee via Evans.
Rusev’s music played. He entered the ring from behind and shoved Evans into Lee. He gave Evans a fallaway slam. They cut to a break. [c]
Evans fought back after the break and hit Rusev with a sloppy side kick that grazed Rusev’s head leading to a two count. Evans leaped onto Rusev at ringside. He threw Rusev back into the ring and stayed on the attack.
