-Tony D’Angelo, Mason Rook and Saquon Shugars were all shown arriving separately earlier. A graphic showed Rook in the center flanked by the others, if you’re the type to look into such things.
(1) LIZZY RAIN vs. KALI ARMSTRONG
Body slam out of the gate by Armstrong. Reset. Big hip toss and another slam by Kali. Rain tried to shake it off and regroup. Back elbow by Armstrong. Rain evaded a few shots and hit a springboard back elbow and covered for two. Vic mentioned Rain being trained in part by Meiko Satomura. La magistral for two by Rain. They went to strikes at their feet for just a moment but Rain downed Kali and hit a spinning heel kick for two. Rain threw a big right but got charged into a corner in a reversal. Armstrong hit a corner block, but ate post on a second attempt. She was bumped to the floor and Rain dove at her with a boot, causing Vic to work in “Holy Diver,” which was much more seamless than most of his rock song references when Rain wrestles. The match went to split-screen. [c]
Armstrong nailed a spinebuster for two. After some jockeying, Rain managed a backslide for two. Both women missed some shots until Rain hit a kick and a fall-away slam. Rain hit her “Make! It! Rain!” chops in the corner. They went to some more evasions and Rain hit a stunner for a long two. Rain hit a super huracanrana but got hit by a powerslam shortly after. Rain hit a headbutt as Armstrong went for the Kali Connection. Kali hit the move on a second effort.
WINNER: Kali Armstrong at 9:53.
After the decision, Skylar Raye charged and tried to get at Kali. Vic called her out as an LFG winner who we haven’t seen in months.
(Wells’s Analysis: Strong opener as the two meshed well and had some fun counters for one another. Raye is a very enjoyable underdog wrestler who makes a strong opponent for an overwhelming force like Armstrong)
-Dorian Van Dux and Sean Legacy got fired up for their match later, but Birthright showed up to annoy them and talk about their own intentions for the gold.
-DarkState made their entrance ahead of the next match.
-Cruz Montana and EK Prosper talked about last week’s failure in the main event, but Montana put Prosper over as the future face of the brand. Vanity Project showed up to cause trouble, prompting Montana to say that Myka is the only tough one in the faction, and a tag match was made for later tonight.
(2) DORIAN VAN DUX & SEAN LEGACY vs. DARKSTATE (Osiris Griffin & Cutler James)
Booker T wanted a team name for the babyfaces and went with “Remote Controls” because they’re moving around all the time. Vic said that was lame and Book laughed. Legacy and James faced off early and Legacy got in some quick shots before James caught him and went for a slam, but Legacy countered into an arm drag. Sliced Bread by Legacy and a tag. Griffin tagged in also and hit both opponents with a lariat to the back side. He slowed it down and hit a slam on DVD. A charge and a block by Griffin. DVD fougth back with chops and body shots, and cut down Griffin until he could cover for two. DVD grounded Griffin and tagged Legacy, and the faces put together some quick strikes and then worked together to hit a back drop, weirdly called a moonsault by Vic, who’s usually spot on when it comes to moves. Griffin hit both with a suplex at once, but DarkState quickly got bumped to the outside. They caught the faces and slammed them on the floor as the match went to split-screen. [c]
DVD took over on offense, dominating both members of DarkState, as Grayson Waller was shown running on a treadmill. James managed to sam him and make the tag. DVD evaded them and hit them with a double moonsault. Both of DarkState bailed on opposite sides, and Legacy nailed them repeatedly with tope suicidas. DVD hit an Asai moonsault on Griffin. Back inside, DVD hit a Shooting Star Press and covered for what would’ve been the win, but James broke it up. Griffin got bumped again, as did James, and both faces used high-risk spots yet again. Dion Lennox, who hasn’t been at ringside, charged in and took out DVD. He rolled him back in for the double powerslam. James covered DVD for the win.
WINNERS: DarkState at 11:35.
Birthright showed up right after things cleared out to say they’re going to attack everyone until they get what they deserve, starting with DVD & Legacy. They beat them down until Zilla Fatu’s music played him out to beat the hell out of all of them. Once Fatu got in trouble, DVD and Legacy recovered and helped him out. The faces stared out at Birthright afterward, likely suggesting a six-man tag next week.
(Wells’s Analysis: I assume they did a heat sequence in the split-screen segment, but most of what we saw was NXT’s usual spotfest. My kingdom for a genuine tag match. Birthright has been hovering around the midcard for a while now, but clearly there’s an attempt being made to elevate them here)
-In a promoted segment, Mason Rook gave a pre-recorded promo about being just one match away from an NXT Championship match. Shots from Pro Wrestling NOAH were included. Waller was shown running on the treadmill again.
-Backstage, Rob Stone talked to Skylar Raye, somewhat admonishing her, but she said she had her attention now and he said that was true. Myles Borne passed by and said he was about to head to the ring to make his apology to Tavion Heights. Stone told him to take as much time as he needs. [c]
-Zaria worked with a trainer, who said she was cleared but should take it easy. Zaria said she wasn’t going to let a pipsqueak like Thea Hail slow her down like that. Izzi Dame walked into the frame and picked at Zaria, asking if people are born wicked or if it’s thrust upon them.
-In the ring, Myles Borne asked Tavion Heights to head to the ring so they can talk man-to-man. Heights’ music immediately played him to the ring.
Borne said he appreciated Heights showing up and admitted he wasn’t sure if he would. Borne started reiterating his fears that Heights was going to turn on him and that he wanted to do it first, and that was his headspace, but he realized now it was a mistake. Heights was still fired up and said Borne is telling him to trust him when he kicked him when he was down. Heights said he lost the only title he’s ever had here. He said he didn’t have his brother or best friend – he had nobody. He said their time might have passed now. Borne said he wasn’t proud of what he did but he asked that Heights put this behind him, like Borne did before. He asked for forgiveness.
Heights said maybe he was too focused on his own situation. He said maybe he planted seeds of doubt. Borne said he can’t let it overshadow their friendship. He said he loves Heights like a brother. He went for a handshake or hug. Heights said he forgave him and now it’s the two of them against the world. He said they were dogs for life. They embraced. As soon as Heights turned, Borne hit a sling blade and battered Heights out of the ring and into the video board. He rolled Heights back inside and grabbed a chair to Pillmanize Heights’ leg, which Heights sold as agony. A few officials showed up fashionably late to send Borne off. The crowd chanted “You suck” as the show went to commercial. [c]
-In a quiet, pre-recorded scene, a doctor checked out Kendal Grey about her vertigo as Wren Sinclair hung nearby. Grey wanted a timeline for recovery but the doctor said her pushing it was setting her back. She suggested a sports doctor for her mental health. The acting in this scene was…something. Wren was good, I suppose.

(3) CRUZ MONTANA & EK PROSPER vs. THE VANITY PROJECT (Brad Baylor & Ricky Smokes) (w/Myka Lockwood)
It’s non-title. For some reason, Jackson Drake didn’t accompany Vanity Project, but I figure we could see him anyway. Baylor and Prosper grappled early and Baylor hit a takedown and then a slam, and he swayed his hips like Rick Rude until Prosper socked him. Prosper evaded by kicking off the corner and flipping behind Baylor, and he made the tag. Baylor tagged out also as he wanted no part of Montana. Smokes tried running blocks but couldn’t move Montana. Montana charged Smokes to a corner and hit a hard chop, then a second. Knife-edge chop by Montana. Montana rolled backward and popped up for a cutter for two. He took Smokes to the face corner and tagged, and he and Prosper double-teamed briefly. Baylor charged in and Prosper nailed him with a German suplex. VP were frustrated on the outside as the match went to split-screen. [c]
Vic put over Vanity Project as having held the championships for more combined days than the Street Profits or War Raiders. The heels were in control for the first minute or two after the break but Montana laid out Smokes and made the hot tag to Prosper, who dominated. Springboard moonsault for legal man Baylor. Prosper went high and hit a gorgeous flying blockbuster with hangtime for two. Baylor evaded a top-rope spot and hit a shotgun dropkick. Smokes tagged in, hit a slingshot spear and covered for two. Smokes put the boots to Prosper, who charged Smokes into Baylor, then trapped him for two. Montana tagged in and the faces took Smokes high. The faces teamed up for a top rope Frankensteiner/powerslam (kinda) combo for two. Montana got bumped to the outside and indeed, Jackson Drake showed up to mess with him. He got thrown out. Inside, Smokes rolled up Prosper. Prosper tried to wriggle free but Baylor, from the apron, held Prosper’s legs to stymie him as Smokes got the win.
WINNERS: Vanity Project at 11:51.
(Wells’s Analysis: This was a tag match with a real flow, heat, big moments and heel chicanery – just a master class of a tag match in comparison to the spotfest earlier)
-Emily Agard talked to Saquon Shugars backstage, and he started giving a fiery promo until Tristan Angels showed up and tried to talk him down as a class beneath the best in the brand. Shugars said Angels is watching tonight from “outside the club” and isn’t even supposed to be here tonight. Well, we probably have an out for Shugars when he doesn’t win tonight. [c]
-Kelani Jordan hit the ring with a mic. She said she won the championship on her first try just like with all her other championships, and she puts her money where her mouth is every single time. She said when she raised her title up high last week, another woman tried to steal her moment. She wondered how it was working out for Wren, who got herself suspended (which would’ve been a stronger statement if Wren wasn’t actually on the show this week, but she was). She said she was on Raw in Mexico City. She started rambling and La Catalina’s music played her to the ring as the crowd cheered for her.
Catalina said Kelani’s not the only one setting records in WWE. She said she won the Reina de Reinas Championship and she’s going to take it to the next level.
Zaria’s music played her out and she said if they’re having a conversation about dominant champions, they have to talk about her. Catalina called out Thea Hail’s name and Zaria said that was a fluke. Their conversation broke down.
Thea Hail’s music played and she said finally, people were talking about her. She said she may be the youngest in the ring but Thea Hail is absolutely championship material. She said she just has to tap out Zaria in a match to become two-time NXT North American Champion. They brawled briefly and babyfaces Hail and Catalina got the better of the heels.
-In a pre-recorded segment, Tony D’Angelo got his turn on the mic ahead of the main event. He said he’s the once and future NXT Champion. Grayson Waller was shown still running on the treadmill. [c]
