Steven Borden, the son of Sting, appeared to suffer a serious injury during the second match on the AEW All Out PPV. The match was called off after Borden stopped moving after a hard landing. They replayed the landing where it appeared his head bounce off the mat, and his arm got stiff in what is known as the “fencing pose” reminiscent of a concussion. From there, the doctor immediate called off the match and the camera cut away from the ring to the announcers and didn’t show him again.
Tony Schiavone appeared to be shaken up and gravely concerned as he watched medics tend to Borden, while Excalibur and Taz filled time by complimenting the medical team. Their voices trembled like they were shaken up.
Borden leaped off the top turnbuckle just as Kevin Knight did from another corner, and they collided as planned, but Borden landed hard on the mat on his back and his head appeared to bounce hard. Excalibur said Borden was leaving the ring. Fans stood and applauded, although the arena was otherwise eerily silent for several minutes while he was being tended to.
Our on-site correspondent Eric Krol reports that Borden was strapped to back brace and then moved to a gurney and wheeled to the back.
I have reached out directly via text to Tony Khan and multiple other personnel and wrestlers in AEW and will pass along any update as soon as anything is communicated to me or through official channels.
UPDATE: After two more matches took place, they went to Tony Schiavone at ringside at the announce desk. He told the PPV audience that Borden was conscious and responsive and was taken to a local hospital and was being seen by a doctor as he spoke.
2ND UPDATE: After two more matches, Schiavone had a live mic so the crowd could hear this update (as they were unaware of the first update which was just for the PPV audience). He said Borden has been responsive and was talking with the doctors about the match. He said he had a CAT scan and if they get another update, they’ll pass it along. Fans chanted, “Steve! Steve!”
