WWE Raw House Show
October 27, 2006
Des Moines, Iowa at Veterans Memorial Auditorium
Report by Ryan Mehaffy, PWTorch correspondent
To start the show, ring announcer Howard Finkle made his way to the ring and welcomed us to the event.
(1) Super Crazy defeated Chris Masters. This opening match ended when Masters put Super Crazy in the “masterlock,” then, however, Super Crazy escaped and got the roll-up.
(2) Cryme Tyme defeated Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch
(3) “The Big Deal” defeated Val Venis. I cannot remember the victor’s name (nor could I really understand Finkle), however, his attire had print on it that said “The Big Deal.”
(4) Mickie James defeated Victoria. The two performers wore Halloween costumes as Mickie was dressed up like a mouse, and Victoria was dressed up as a bat.
(5) The Highlanders defeated The Spirit Squad. This was a non-title matchup. At the end, Kenny smacked some of his fellow squad members and then left the ring.
(6) Carlito defeated Shelton Benjamin. Carlito was the first person of the night to receive a huge pop from the crowd. He won with the back-cracker.
Intermission
Howard Finkle came back out and introduced WWE Divas Maria and Torrie Wilson (w/Chloe). Maria was in lingerie. The two women talked for awhile and made sexual innuendoes toward one another. Then they shot t-shirts into the crowd. Finally, Maria said the next person to catch a shirt would be the special guest ring announcer for the upcoming match.
(7) Jeff Hardy defeated Johnny Nitro (w/Melina) to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Melina was ejected by the referee after interfering in the match. Hardy won with a perfectly executed swanton bomb.
(8) Triple H defeated Randy Orton. The crowd came to their feet when the lights went out and the DX music played. Hunter did the usual pre-match thing and said Shawn Michaels wasn’t at the building tonight. Good action with a comical twist.
(9) John Cena defeated Umaga (w/Armando Alejandro Estrada) via DQ to retain the WWE Championship. Predictably, Cena was excessively over with the audience. This was supposed to be Cena vs. Edge, however, Edge was not at the show. At the end of the match, Johnny Nitro came down to the ring to attack Cena leading in a DQ. As Umaga, Estrada, and Nitro were in the ring, Triple H came down to help out the champion. Hunter and Cena then cleared house to end the show.
There were more fans in attendence than I thought there would be; probably around 2,000. All in all, it was a really good show. It was defiantly worth the money!
