SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

In a new interview, A.J. Styles made it sound like feelers have been put out about his interest in WWE, but he has not been formally contacted about joining the NXT roster, which now features several former TNA colleagues.

“I haven’t had a call from someone who wants to hire me,” Styles said on the “Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling” podcast. “So nothing really and I’m okay with that and that’s not a big deal to me. I think it’s more of the fans wanting something like this to happen than what I am wanting to happen.”

Styles added that he’s looking to retire “in a couple of years,” so he is open to having one career run in WWE, but he enjoys being an independent wrestler, working for Ring of Honor, and wrestling in Japan.

“I want to support my family and I am going to go wherever that takes me. Would I like to have a ‘WrestleMania moment?’ Sure. But I am very content with having a ‘Wrestle Kingdom moment’ in front of 60,000 fans. I think that is pretty awesome walking down that long ramp of the Tokyo Dome in probably one of the bigger matches on the show. There is probably a couple other people out there that want to do the same thing,” Styles said.

Styles is scheduled for the semi-main event of New Japan’s Tokyo Dome Show on January 4, wrestling one of the Big Three stars, Shinsuke Nakamura, for the IWGP Intercontinental Title.
