They ran the same venue as WWE Live in November. WWE did about 11,000 then and I’d guess NXT did about 7,000, but the atmosphere was far better.

I’ve not really watched much NXT before, so this was a journey into the unknown for me and I only went as my niece was desperate to see Bayley.

(1) Enzo Amore & Big Cass beat Blake & Murphy. Amore and Cassidy have great chemistry and the heels played off them well. An energetic and entertaining opener.

(2) Bull Dempsey beat Tye Dillinger. A good comedy match. Both wrestlers were very over and Dillinger’s “10” chant actually got an airing in matches throughout the night. Dillinger could be a good comedy act on the main roster.

(3) Asuka beat Alexa Bliss with the Asuka Lock. I’d heard a lot of good things about Asuka, but this match was pretty poor. The worst of the night.

(4) Neville beat Baron Corbin. Both men were over and both performed well in what was a very good match. Neville took a scary bumb over the top rope and onto the stairs, which I thought was a bit ridiculous for a main roster guy on an NXT house show.

NXT GM William Regal came out and gave a heart-felt thank you to the fans in attendance.

(5) NXT tag champions Dash & Dawson beat Chad Gable & Jason Jordan. Again I’m not up to date with NXT but in Gable/Jordan and Amore/Cass I see two teams who could have a pretty good run with the New Day on the main roster. Wilder pinned Gable pulling on the tights. After the match, the faces got a standing ovation as they put on a great show.

(6) NXT Women’s champion Bayley beat Emma. Bayley is one of the few NXT acts I’d seen before, so I made sure to watch Bayley-Sasha Banks given the great write-ups. In-person, Bayley was insanely charismatic and actually on the fly changed up her act to play to the crowd (for example working the “10” chants mentioned earlier). She won with a Bayley-to-Belly before having a staredown with Nia Jax.

(7) Samoa Joe beat Apollo Crews. Decent match. Funny chants of Bobby Lashley at Apollo Crews. Both men put in some good work and the fans were into Joe, who tried his hardest to get them to turn on him (they wouldn’t).

(8) NXT champion Finn Balor beat Sami Zayn. Finn won with his stomp. Good but not great match. After the finish the two embraced. Finn was very popular with the crowd given his days wrestling in Glasgow-based ICW.

Most Over:

(1) Finn
(2) Bayley
(2) Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady

Most Heat…

Funnily enough it was an 8-bit Roman Reigns! When they played the TLC advert of the video game during the intermission, the place went crazy with boos as the little 8-bit Reigns character ran around. Pretty fun as he was super-over as a face when WWE ran the same venue only last month.

Overall, I was very impressed by NXT. I’m not as down on the main roster as most people would appear to be, but this show was streets ahead of what we saw last month from the top brand.
