– CMT announced a co-host for the next installment of “Redneck Island” hosted by “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Austin will be joined by Melissa Rycroft of “The Bachelor” and “Dancing with the Stars” fame for the new season premiering Thursday, January 28 at 10:00 p.m. EST. This will be a 10-episode series competing for $100,000. (Press Release)

– Variety published a scathing review of the new “Daddy’s Home” movie starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. Except for John Cena’s brief cameo in the movie. “It’s not until John Cena shows up, in a clever cameo cannily playing off a memorable scene in ‘Trainwreck,’ that true inspiration strikes. Appropriately enough, that happens right before the closing credits,” Variety wrote.

Mike Tenay talked at-length about his origins in pro wrestling going back to the early-days of newsletters covering Los Angeles wrestling, his early fascination with sports betting that has carried over to his new podcast, the importance of Bobby Heenan to his career, and briefly TNA getting a new TV home. – ECWA announced Papadon as the third entrant in the annual Super 8 tournament scheduled for January 23 in Woodbury Heights, N.J. Papadon joins Jason Kincaid and Davey Richards in the tournament.

– The NFL introduced the wrestling term “foreign object” into the sports lexicon this week by banning objects unrelated to football from the sidelines and field during gamedays. This follows an incident where Carolina Panthers players brought baseball bats to the field during pre-game warm-ups. (Fox Sports with the wrestling tie-in)

Fox Sports also picked up on UFC women’s fighter Ronda Rousey receiving a Slammy award along with “The Rock” Dwayne Johnson. Meanwhile, BBC News covered Seth Rollins winning WWE Superstar of the Year.

– The Encore TV channel announced an “A-Team” marathon on New Year’s Eve, including Hulk Hogan’s guest-starring appearance on the 1980s show starring Mr. T.

– The Pro Wrestling League, a start-up promotion in India, reportedly drew 48 million viewers for Day 1 of its introduction on three channels across the country. As Great Khali said in a recent interview, pro wrestling has quickly moved to #2 behind cricket in terms of popularity in the country. “The ratings clearly indicate that the opening season of PWL outshines all other non-cricketing leagues,” reads a local news report.
