Fast Lane Social Media – WWE PPV draws half the interest as Royal Rumble

WWE’s Fast Lane PPV drew about half of the social media interest as the Royal Rumble in January.

Fast Lane (Feb. 21): Fast Lane ranked #2 among series & specials on Sunday, trailing “The Walking Dead” on AMC, but ahead of the Kardashians and a Disneyland special on ABC.

If compared to one-off sports programming, Fast Lane would have ranked #4 behind the Daytona 500 and two NBA games. The PPV would have ranked ahead of UFC Fight Night on FS1, which was included in the sports section of Nielsen’s Twitter TV Ratings.

– Fast Lane drew a unique Twitter audience of 1.735 million, down 40 percent from the Rumble.

– Total impressions were 20.532 million, down 46 percent from the Rumble.

– The number of unique authors tweeting about Fast Lane were 53,000, down 44 percent from the Rumble. Total tweets was 279,000, down 46 percent from the Rumble.

Caldwell’s Analysis: A reasonable expectation would have been Fast Lane drawing about one-third of what the Rumble drew since the Rumble is, well, the Rumble, and has legacy interest from long-time wrestling fans. To only draw half of the Rumble’s social media audience for the PPV before WrestleMania is below-average.
