SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

Santino Marella says he talked to WWE about a non-wrestling TV role after his in-ring career ended. However, the company decided to release him as part of the most-recent series of roster cuts.

“I can’t wrestle anymore. Of course, I could’ve done stuff on the mic as a general manager, manager, commentator, whatever, but I guess they didn’t see it that way or maybe there’s nothing going on right now. But they were pretty clear about this is just a Level 2 contract, and I can still do stuff on the (WWE) Network,” Santino said on the In Your Head Wrestling Radio show with Jack E. Jones.

Santino is now focusing on his Battle Arts Academy in Canada. He said his ambitious goal is bringing the promotion up to the level of NXT.

“My goal is to have a developmental territory up in Canada here so we can get the Australian guys, and the English guys, and the Canadian guys and do a whole new NXT-North type thing,” Santino said.
