WWE star Alberto Del Rio knocked TNA in an interview with local media in India doing a promotional tour for WWE.

Asked why he returned to WWE in 2015 over signing with TNA, Del Rio said TNA did not have the money to pay him what he desired at the time.

“At the end of the day you can love what you do, but you have to be rewarded. If somebody wants to have me in their organisation, they have to pay me, and there is no other place like WWE, which is a major league of progress and growth. TNA does not have the wherewithal as WWE does,” Del Rio was quoted by The Press Trust of India.

Del Rio also talked up WWE making him feel like a “superstar” when he returned, which included winning the U.S. Title from John Cena to end Cena’s U.S. Title Open Challenge Series.

“I had the opportunity to work for all the prestigious wrestling companies around the world in different countries, but there is no other place like WWE. I like the way they treat us and the places we go. You become a global superstar,” Del Rio said.

Del Rio’s comments about TNA in the Indian media could sting since India is one of TNA’s top markets, and they are scheduled for a live tour later this year. Del Rio’s comments could also have the opposite effect of elevating TNA in the eyes of fans since a WWE star acknowledged the lesser U.S. counterpart.
