WWE Fastlane main event has changed and a match next week determines new competitor (w/Keller’s Analysis)

Shane McMahon announced on Twitter the Fastlane main event will now be a Fatal Four-way, with the winner of next week’s Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler match getting a spot in that match.

He wrote on Twitter: “An unexpected end to Smackdown Live with a triple threat match made for Fastlane. I’m going to make a bit more interesting. Next week, Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler. The winner is added to the match and makes it a Fatal Four-way for the WWE Title.”

Keller’s Analysis: Why? Is this another lame “Land of Opportunity” announcement, where “Land of Opportunity” is merely a euphemism for, “We didn’t plan long-term and have no rationale for doing this, but were going to give it a label to make it seem like a great thing!” Seriously, Dolph Ziggler walked out on his job, returned at the Royal Rumble without explanation, and now is booked against Baron Corbin next week. What has he done to put himself one win away from getting a “25 percent chance” (#WWEmath) of becoming WWE Champion? This makes a complete mockery out of any sense that there’s any rationale reason anything happens in WWE, which undercuts fan investment in wins and losses, which diminishes the entertainment value of matches themselves – the core of WWE’s product. People yawned and groaned at the announcement of yet another match featuring a mix-and-match variation involving A.J. Styles, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn, but how does adding a fourth person for no apparent reason help more than it hurts? This feels arbitrary and makes Shane McMahon’s character out to be a buffoon (joining Daniel Bryan on that list) and, at a higher level, feels like WWE insulting fans. It’s like an eight year old is fantasy booking WWE on a whim or a monkey is pushing random buttons.
