WWE SMACKDOWN LIVE EVENT
SEPTEMBER 1, 2018
CLEVELAND, OHIO AT WOLSTEIN CENTER
REPORT BY DARRIN GOATS, PWTORCH CORRESPONDENT

If you attend a live event, please send results in the format of the following report to pwtorch@pwtorch.com. Thanks!

I estimate a crowd of 3,000 in attendance tonight.  The Wolstein Center has a capacity of 13,000.  The normal venue of Quicken Loans Arena is undergoing renovations this summer and is closed for events.

(1) The New Day defeated The Bar to retain the Smackdown Tag Team Championship when Kofi Kingston pinned Sheamus.

(2) Naomi pinned Sonya Deville (w/Mandi Rose). Sonya Deville brought crowd heat that Cleveland was a town of losers and that is why Lebron James left.

(3) The Usos defeated Sanity via pinfall.

(4) Rusev & Lana defeated Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega via by double submission. Aden English had interfered to disrupt Almas.  Both Rusev and Lana applied the Accolade on Almas and Vega.

(5) Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Jeff Hardy to retain the United States Championship.

(6) Daniel Bryan pinned The Miz after landing the running knee. Bryan is still the most over WWE Superstar as the crowd just soaked it up with the “Yes” chants.  The Miz played up the heel even though being from Cleveland calling the fans “sweat hogs” and glad he moved out of the city.

(7) R-Truth pinned Shelton Benjamin.

(8) Charlotte Flair defeated Carmella to retain the Smackdown Women’s Championship with a DQ victory over Carmella after Becky Lynch interfered.    A double team followed and Asuka made the save.  This led to Charlotte challenging both Becky Lynch and Carmella to a tag team match.

(9) Charlotte Flair & Asuka defeated Carmella & Becky Lynch when Carmella tapped out to the figure eight by Charlotte

(10) A.J. Styles defeated Samoa Joe to retain the WWE Championship after landing a phenomenal forearm.

FINAL THOUGHTS: No return date was announced by the WWE.  The crowd was very enthusiastic, and the WWE Superstars were interactive with the fans by taking selfies with people in attendance and singing autographs after each of their matches. The live event was a nice break from attending a Raw event.  Even though this event lasted closed to three hours, the matches were fast paced and rolled them out one after another.  You didn’t have to sit around during long commercial breaks.
