•Impact in the Media

  • In a recent interview with Jim Ross, Tessa Blanchard confirmed that she will be with Impact Wrestling until 2020. Blanchard said, she is happy working with Impact and WOW and that she has never been motivated by money. LINK
  • Eli Drake recently spoke with Wrestling and discussed his thoughts on wrestling’s landscape and his time with Impact Wrestling. Drake also mentioned that he likes when wrestling is geared towards adults. He said, If you look at WWE 1998-99, was it over the top? Sure it was, but they were still doing well.” LINK 1, LINK 2
  • Scarlett Bordeaux was recently a guest on the WINCLY podcast with Nick Hausman. Bordeaux mentioned in the interview that she was initally considered for other postions before Impact decided to put her in the Knockouts Division. She also said that she was not surprised by all the attention her video with Scott Steiner got on Youtube. LINK
  • On the WINCLY podcast, Taya Valkyrie revealed her thoughts on Scarlett Bordeaux and Jordynne Grace. She praised both wrestlers and said they each bring something unique to the Knockouts Divison. Valkyrie also mentioned she has always dreamed of being a world champion in an American federation and winning at Homecoming made that dream come true. When asked about being a world champion alongside her husband, Johnny Impact, she said, “It’s just really cool to be sharing in this moment with him especially since we’ve both worked so hard to get to this point individually through our careers and coming from different kind of parts of pro wrestling, it’s just really a great way to start 2019.” LINK 1, LINK 2

•Closing Commentary

Earlier this week, Impact Wrestling announced its next PPV event, Rebellion, which will take place on April 27th, 2019, in Toronto, Canada. Rebellion will be Impact’s second PPV of 2019 and will be the last PPV event before Slammiversary.

I attended the NJPW New Beginning USA tour in Charlotte on Friday night, which means I was unable to watch Impact live this week. Unfortunately, Impact doesn’t archive new episodes of Impact on Twitch, which left me with no options to watch Friday’s show. This has been a major issue for me ever since the change in networks. Most people, including me, have way better things to do on a Friday night than sit at home and watch an episode of Impact.

In my opinion, there is a simple solution to this problem, and that is to make new episodes of Impact available on the weekend. This seems like a very simple solution, and I’m not sure why it’s not being done. Maybe there are contractual obligations that are forcing Impact to wait weeks to release episodes of Impact, but Impact has been silent and has not addressed the problem. If it’s a way to drive traffic to the GWN app weeks after an episode is released, there is a solution to that problem as well. Simply, make episodes of Impact available as a VOD for all paid subscribers on Twitch. I doubt this will boost subscribers over their 15,000 subscriber goal, but it will definitely attract more paid users than the GWN app is.
