•Top Stories of the Week

  • WWE announced on Monday that Torrie Wilson will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame class of 2019. She is the third announced inductee along with Degeneration X and The Honky Tonk Man.
  • WWE confirmed that current NXT Champion, and recent Main Roster call-up, Tomasso Ciampa is scheduled to undergo neck surgery very soon. Because of this, he will not be able to compete at NXT Takeover: New York or at WrestleMania. It’s unclear if they were going to schedule a match for him at WrestleMania, but he, in all likelihood, would have been defending his NXT Championship at the Takeover event that weekend. SOURCE
  • Samoa Joe won the United States Championship from R-Truth on Smackdown this week.

•Latest TV Highlights

Monday Night Raw

  • The Shield reunites once again. Roman asked Seth to reunite The Shield one last time. It took some convincing, but Seth finally agreed. Dean’s music hit and he stood on the stage with a microphone. As he went to talk, Elias ran out behind Dean and broke a guitar over his back. Seth and Roman went to help Dean and he shoved them off before storming to the back. In two backstage segments, Roman and Seth tried convincing Dean to reunite The Shield separately, but Dean wasn’t interested in talking. After Dean lost in his match to Elias, Seth and Roman walked down to the ring to talk to him again about reuniting The Shield. Dean would ignore them and go to leave the arena through the crowd. Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, and Drew McIntyre would come out and say they were going to propose and “epic” six-man tag match at Fastlane, but they don’t deserve it, so they’re just going to end them tonight. All three men entered the ring and began beating up Roman and Seth. Dean would eventually come back out of the crowd to help Seth and Roman and they would clear the ring. Roman and Seth would put their fists together while Dean paced around behind them uncertain. Seth kept yelling “Come on” while looking at his hand and Dean would eventually join them. The six-man tag match at Fastlane was announced later in the night.
  • Becky Lynch was reinstated by Stephanie McMahon and has a match with Charlotte on Sunday at Fastlane. Initially when Stephanie announced this match, it was Becky vs. Charlotte for the Raw Women’s Championship as long as Becky would sign a “hold harmless” agreement. In the final segment on Raw, Becky was about to sign the agreement when Ronda Rousey is seen storming through the backstage area on her way to the ring. Ronda came out, took back her championship from Stephanie, who just gave it back to her, Stephanie then changed Sunday’s match between Charlotte and Becky. Now, if Becky wins the match vs. Charlotte, she will be added to the Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte match at WrestleMania. Ronda then told Stephanie that she makes WWE too much money for Stephanie to fire her, so she can do whatever she wants. Ronda turned to the fans saying “I am not your dancing monkey, not anymore. Damn your fantasies, damn The Man, screw the woo. No more Mrs. Nice Bitch” before attacking Charlotte and Becky. Charlotte quickly escaped the ring and Ronda turned her full attention to beating down Becky. She put Becky in multiple arm-bars, stopping briefly each time to look at Charlotte and to punch Becky a few times. Ronda then held up her championship while standing over a beaten down Becky.

  • Daniel Bryan and Kevin Owens addressed one another for the first time since Vince replaced Kofi Kingston with Owens in the Fastlane WWE Championship match. Daniel Bryan started Smackdown breaking his silence regarding the events of last week’s Smackdown show. He said Kofi isn’t a leader and doesn’t deserve the championship match, he then said Vince replaced the man who throws copious amounts of pancakes, with a man who eats copious amounts of pancakes. He said Owens has nothing to lose, which makes him dangerous, meanwhile he has everything to lose. Owens then came out and talked about his time away spending time with his family, watching WWE every week, and said it was hard watching people doing what he wanted to. He then said nothing was as hard as watching Bryan throw the WWE Championship in the trash. Owens also said he regrets taking Kofi’s title shot, but he’d still beat Bryan at Fastlane. In the main event, Owens fought Rowan and the match ended quickly in a disqualification. Mustafa Ali would come down to save Owens from the two-on-one beatdown.
  • Samoa Joe won the United States Championship on Smackdown. R-Truth and Carmella came to the ring and announced that he was doing another United States Open Challenge. After a Lacey Evans interruption, Samoa Joe’s music would play, after Joe entered the ring, Rey Mysterio would come out, then Adrade and Zelina Vega. The ring announcer immediately declared it a Fatal Four-Way match and rang the bell. After a few minutes of action, Mysterio would go for the pin on Andrade, but Joe would throw Mysterio off Andrade and Joe pinned Andrade for the win.

•WWE Social Media Highlights

I posted the tweet of Becky’s mugshot last week, but Ronda replied the next day and it lead to a very interesting thread between the two

The tweets didn’t stop here. This series of tweets came after television this week. We start with Ronda selling her own WWE themed merchandise..?

The Revival is still making subtle comments and complaints on Twitter.

Tyler Breeze and Luke Harper had a funny exchange which started with Breeze reenacting Ronda and Becky’s Twitter feud by calling out Harper. Breeze and Harper have both since deleted these tweets.

Andrew McCutcheon took exception to what Corey Graves said about him on Smackdown last week and tweeted at Graves to tell him. I wonder if someone alerted him to the clip, or if he’s actually a WWE fan.

WWE unveiled the bracket to crown the number one contender for the Cruiserweight Championship.

Big E knows how he’s supposed to watch a television on WWE TV

An Asuka vs. Mandy Rose match was stopped short on Monday night this week after Asuka took a nasty bump to her head and neck. Asuka tweeted out these tweets Monday night and Tuesday morning assuring everyone that she’s okay.

•Closing Commentary

Last PPV before WrestleMania this weekend! I’m not sure it will be a very eventful one, but I’ve been wrong before! I did not have a good Elimination Chamber only getting three of the seven matches correct. That means I’m now 11 for 16 in PPV match predictions this year. Not great, but I’m not at a failing grade yet! Here are my predictions for Fastlane:

(1) Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Kevin Owens for the WWE Championship

As a huge K.O. fan I am beyond excited he’s being put back into the title scene as soon as he returns, I also think that Kofi will get his match at WrestleMania, which is obviously a much bigger spot than Fastlane. Hopefully Kofi gets his match regardless of who wins this match, but this should be a good one!

Prediction: Daniel Bryan retains. There may be some outside interference by Rowan, but I doubt it. There’s not enough time to give K.O. a rematch if they go with a D.Q. finish and I pray they don’t make it a Triple-Threat at WrestleMania.

My Hope: Either option is good in my opinion. Selfishly I love Owens so I’d like to see him win it, but the Daniel Bryan character is unique and fun and that WWE Championship needs to stick around for longer than a couple months.

(2) The Usos (c) vs. Shane McMahon & The Miz for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships

There hasn’t been much build around this one. It seems like WWE is trying to lay low for a huge development in the Miz/Shane tag team during or after this match. In classic WWE reverse psychology, The Miz won in the singles match before the PPV which almost for sure indicates they won’t win Sunday.

Prediction: The Usos retain and The Miz turns on Shane setting up a match between the two at WrestleMania. Shane could also turn on The Miz, but I’m betting Miz turns.

My Hope: The Miz turns and his dad becomes a heel manager. The Miz is better as a heel in my opinion so hopefully they turn him instead of Shane.

(3) Sasha Banks & Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax & Tamina for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships

I refuse to use WWE’s horrible nickname for Sasha and Bayley. It’s cringe worthy and I hate it. I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that Mandy and Sonya should’ve gotten the first crack at the Tag Team Champions considering they were the last ones eliminated, but since they’re on Smackdown and Mandy is now challenging Asuka, that wouldn’t make much sense given the card they wanted for Fastlane.

Prediction: Sasha & Bayley retain. I expect two women’s legends to challenge them for the championships at WrestleMania, maybe Trish Stratus & Lita?

My Hope: Sasha & Bayley retain. Vince doesn’t respect tag teams, but having the inaugural champions lose in their first defense isn’t a good start to the lineage of the championships, even if Sasha is notorious for failing in title defenses.

(4) Asuka (c) vs. Mandy Rose for the Smackdown Women’s Championship

I’m not sure Mandy has been shown to be credible enough to have really even earned the opportunity. If it were up to me Asuka would squash Mandy faster than Ronda squashed Ruby Riott at Elimination Chamber.

Prediction: Asuka retains

My Hope: Asuka retains in near record time. When I say fast, I mean faster than Sheamus beat Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 28 fast.

(5) Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte

– If Becky wins, she will be added to the Raw Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania

Sneaky, sneaky Vince McMahon has tricked the masses into wanting the Triple Threat. Atlanta, you let us all down last week cheering for the Triple Threat. You were eating out of Vince’s hand. He was playing chess, while you were all playing Checkers! Philadelphia on Monday weren’t nearly as excited about the prospects of a Triple-Threat match, but there were still some cheers. Shame! Anyway, Becky was really selling the knee in the closing segment on Monday night when she had to sign the “hold harmless agreement” (how ridiculous). Then she was beaten down by Ronda, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens Sunday.

Prediction: Becky will win, but I’m not sure how yet. If she just wins clean over Charlotte it’ll make Charlotte look really bad being beaten by someone who can’t even walk. My best bet is Charlotte dominates the match over the injured Becky, but Becky wins with a quick roll-up or more likley catches Charlotte by surprise into the Dis-Arm-Her. The submission finish would be great especially after Ronda discredited it on Twitter.

My Hope: Becky wins and somehow gets Charlotte removed from the match at WrestleMania. It’s not happening, but I can dream…

(6) The Shield vs. Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre, & Bobby Lashley

Still incredibly happy that Roman is back, I thought the way he convinced Seth to reunite The Shield for one final hoorah was good! It was nice that he called Seth out to show support for him in his match with Lesnar and didn’t talk about him wanting the title himself afterward. WWE acknowledging Dean’s contract situation was surprising, but necessary if they’re trying to sell this as the final time The Shield will be together.

Prediction: This one is hard… It seems like the perfect place to have Dean double down as a heel and attack Roman and Seth either during the match or post-match. It could also just be a feel good moment where they win clean and smile. Either way, I think The Shield win, but I like the idea of Dean beating them down afterwards setting up a Roman vs. Dean WrestleMania match. I think that’s a good spot for Roman to be in at WM on his comeback tour.

My Hope: Exactly what I outline above, I hope The Shield win and Dean beats them both down as they celebrate the win. That puts a ton of heat on Dean and I think Roman beating him on his way out of the door helps Roman. I think that’s also a WrestleMania match where Roman won’t get booed out of the building.

(7) The Revival (c) vs. Aleister Black & Ricochet vs. Chad Gable & Bobby Roode for the Triple Threat match

The Revival have been a complete joke of a team since winning the titles. Vince continues to show us all that tag team wrestling means less to him than anything else on his shows. Because of that, this match could go any direction to me, it’s kind of hard to get a feel for the direction they’re wanting to go. Roode & Gable going heel is a good move. Roode should’ve been heel since the day he debuted!

Prediction: The Revival retain the championships. I’m thinking Roode & Gable were added to be the ones to take the fall so Black & Ricochet don’t technically get beat yet.

My Hope: The Revival retain

(8) Kickoff Show: Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade

I feel bad for these guys. They have some awesome matches on Smackdown and their reward is being the kickoff show match on a secondary PPV. Should be a pretty good match, hopefully they hold off as long as they can during the pre-show so the crowd is fairly full by the time they come out. If they’re going to be relegated to the Cruiserweight Championship spot on the card, waiting as long as possible is the least they can do so they’re actually wrestling in front of an audience.

Prediction: I have absolutely no idea… Andrade wins? I don’t have a good feeling about what they will do here.

My Hope: Andrade. I’d really like him to be taken more seriously and be seen as more of a threat. He needs to actually win every now and then to do that.
