WWE MAIN EVENT TV REPORT
JUNE 5, 2019
HULU STREAMING TV
REPORT BY MIKE F. MEYERS, PWTORCH CONTRIBUTOR

Announcers: Renee Young, Byron Saxton

REASONS TO WATCH…

  • EC3 is appropriately dismissive of Jose’s conga line.
  • Sarah Logan is alive! Alive!

(1) NO WAY JOSE vs. EC3

As EC3 made his slow walk down the ramp, Renee described his recent trajectory as a downward spiral. When he got to ringside, he paused at the end of Jose’s conga line, which was waiting patiently. He turned to the lead dancer and shooed her away. She headed for the ramp, with the rest of the line in tow. EC3 continued to angrily gesture at them while yelling, “Go!”

While EC3 suffered a prolonged side headlock by Jose, the announcers pointed out that EC3’s last victory came against Jose, so maybe things could turn around for him tonight. Jose leveled EC3 with a shoulder block, then took him down twice more with an arm drag and a drop kick. Jose hopped out to the ring apron, knocked EC3 down again with a straight punch, then performed a somersault senton over the top rope onto his prone opponent.

EC3 escaped a fireman’s carry, then blasted Jose’s face into the canvas with a modified DDT. EC3 covered for a two-count, then repeatedly stomped Jose in the corner. EC3 landed a textbook vertical suplex and covered again. Jose kicked out, leading EC3 to apply a chinlock. Jose got to his feet while the crowd clapped – not enthusiastically, more dutifully. He escaped, but went on to catch a reverse elbow and big clothesline from EC3.

EC3 landed a neckbreaker and covered Jose two times in a row, both good for a two-count. EC3 maneuvered Jose onto the top turnbuckle, but Jose pushed him away then took to the air with a successful high cross body. Jose, gaining momentum, landed clotheslines, a suplex, and a flapjack – this combo was good for a cover and a two-count.

Jose climbed the ropes on his own accord, but EC3 used his vibrating rope technique from last week to crotch Jose on the turnbuckle cable. EC3 hoisted Jose onto his shoulders and dropped him face-first onto his knee, then executed the Top One Percenter – his modified DDT again – this time good for the three-count.

WINNER: EC3 by pinfall.

(Meyers’s Analysis: Jose is established as the one guy EC3 can defeat – with recycled sequences from last week, no less. EC3’s pre-match mannerisms were good, but the match was a snooze.)

(2) DANA BROOKE & NATALYA vs. TAMINA & SARAH LOGAN

Natalya started off against Logan, but Brooke and Natalya made immediate quick tags to maintain the upper hand over Logan. To bring us into the commercial break, Brooke and Natalya landed a double baseball slide under the bottom rope to Logan, who was standing at ringside.

Among the ads was one for the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, whose retail price exceeds $4,000 USD.

Back in the ring, Logan had Natalya locked in a leg submission. Natalya escaped, but Logan proceeded to put the boots to her. Natalya landed a reverse elbow on Logan, but Tamina struck Natalya from the apron while the ref was distracted. Natalya finally fled from the enemy corner and made a hot tag to Brooke, who began to unload on Tamina, who had also tagged in.

Brooke knocked Logan off the ring apron for good measure, then landed a handspring elbow on Tamina in a neutral corner, followed by a sloppy bulldog that was led more by Tamina than by Brooke. Brooke covered Tamina, but it was broken up by an interfering Logan. To punish Logan for her competitive spirit, Natalya entered the ring and performed a tornado clothesline, leveling Logan, who rolled out to ringside.

Meanwhile, Tamina blasted Brooke in the face with a superkick and covered her for a two-count. A mild “Dana!” chant started, then quickly faded. Tamina missed a splash in the corner and fell onto the canvas. Natalya tagged in, entered the ring, and stood with her back to the corner. Brooke, now on the apron, tagged herself back in, then scaled the corner to stand upon the top rope with supporting help from Natalya. Brooke leaned forward and landed a senton bomb on Tamina, then covered for the three-count.

WINNERS: Dana Brooke & Natalya by pinfall.

(Meyers’s Analysis: Good to know Sarah Logan is alive and well, even if she still dresses like a goon. More refreshing faces and pairings, but the match itself was nothing special.)

SHOW SCORE (0-10): 5.8

FINAL THOUGHTS: Skip this show unless you’re doing a wellness check on Sarah Logan, or are a fan of senton bombs – this episode featured two!
