SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

STARDOM MASK FIESTA
OCTOBER 27, 2019
TOKYO, JAPAN AT SHIN-KIBA 1ST RING
AIRED ON STARDOM WORLD
REPORT BY HARLEY R. PAGEOT, PWTORCH CONTRIBUTOR

The standard Stardom opening video was replaced with spooky music and presented in gray and white with red blood dripping down the screen.

-Trainee Miyagi said she was making her debut. The twins, Cyber Cat and Masyu Pinya, said they’d do their best. Even the ring announcer and referee were masked. Miyagi wore a black track suit with a white mask. Cat and Pinya wore Hina and Rina’s gear with Hina’s blue QQ mask and a pink cat mask for the other one.

(1) CYBER CAT & MASYU PINYA vs. TRAINEE MIYAGI

A fan questioned why a rookie was wrestling a handicap match for her debut. The rookie, Miyagi, offered a handshake. The twins attacked. The rookie bailed to ringside but returned to wipe down the ropes and mat. Double schoolgirl from Miyagi to Cat and Pinya simultaneously for the win.

WINNER: Trainee Miyagi in 3:04.

(Pageot’s Perspective: A fun little match. I suppose I will reveal the secret identities in my comments here for those people unware. That was Andras Miyagi picking up a win over Hina and Rina. Their names appear to be broken English versions of rough Spanish translations. I think Hina’s Masyu Pinya was meant to mean Little Pineapple.)

-Green Sayasaya held Muneka Ponite in her hands. She referred to Ponite as her doll and muñeca means doll in Spanish. Ponite appeared to be a luchadora version of Lilo’s doll Scrump from Lilo & Stitch. Tamchika was accompanied by Producer P. She tried to speak Spanish but doesn’t appear to know any Spanish. La Gatita said “See you later!” in Spanish and Tamchika responded with some Russian.

Sayasaya carried Ponite to the ring like a doll and placed her in the corner. She wore a green and purple QQ mask over Saya Kamitani’s usual gear. Tamchika wore a witch outfit. Gatita (“Little Cat”) also wore black leather and carried a long leather rope (her tail?). Sayasaya propped up her doll on the apron. She remained limp and lifeless the entire time.

(2) TAMCHIKA & LA GATITA vs. MUNEKA PONITE & GREEN SAYASAYA

Sayasaya and Tamchika started. Tamchika beat her up so Sayasaya suggested a dance battle instead in celebration of Halloween. Sayasaya went first. Tamchika did some suggestive moves that got a collective “ooohh” from the crowd. Tag to Ponite. The referee dragged her into the ring under the bottom rope. Tag to Gatita. Sayasaya brought Ponite to life but Gatita put her back down. She picked pieces of foam out of one of the doll’s torn seams. Sayasaya took a beating and yelled at Ponite for not helping. The referee hit the doll and it sprang to life again and was a house of fire on their opponents but Tamchika hit a roundhouse kick to Sayasaya for the pin.

WINNERS: Tamchika & Gatita in 9:05.

(Pageot’s Perspective: A bit longer than maybe necessary but Tam Nakano & Saki Kahima picked up the win over 3838 Tag. Saya Iida’s lifeloss doll act was funny.)

-The original Iotica was Io Shirai at past Halloween appearances. Mini Iotica is, presumably, her #1 fan. She wore a long cape and blue and gold gear. Kid wore black and white gear with a sort of skeleton ribcage aesthetic over her dress.

(3) STARLIGHT KID vs. MINI IOTICA

Kid wrestled heel, her black gear representing the evil Kid being unearthed for Halloween. She even tried to unmask AZM… I mean Mini Iotica. They fought onto the stage and into the crowd. Kid tried to head backstage but Iotica brought her back to the ring. They traded pin attempts. Iotica looked for a tilt-a-whirl into the armbar but the bell rang.

DECISION: Time limit draw in 10:00.

-They continued to brawl after the bell and disappeared under the ring.

(Pageot’s Perspective: So that’s what a heel Starlight Kid would look like. It could work.)

-Up next was a six on six situation. The trainees said that four of them debuted last year but they violated the rules. They wore t-shirts and plain white masks and were very humble and apologetic. Their opponents struggled to cut a promo while the dog Wan-Chan kept nipping at Fairy Sexy Jungle. They saluted and Masked Gas Mask closed with a “Yes sir!” The ring announcer said that each of the trainees would have a 3-minute pro test match.

(4a) MASKED GAS MASK vs. TRAINEE ISHINO

Gas Mask no-sold four dropkicks and hit a palm strike. She no-sold some forearms and suplexed Ishino. Delayed vertical suplex.

WINNER: Masked Gas Mask in 1:16.

(4b) EL BOBO WAZOWSKI vs. TRAINEE HAYTER

Wazowski also no-sold some chops and scared Hayter to the mat. She chased her around the ring and Hayter hit a body slam. Wazowski with a kick for the win.

WINNER: El Bobo Wazowski in 1:00.

(4c) MONSTER Z. SULLIVAN vs. TRAINEE MARUYAMA

Sullivan tried to be scary but Maruyama just thought she was cute. Dropkick from the rookie. She went to the corner to grab a can of beer but the rest of her team chastised her. Draping piledriver for the pin.

WINNER: Monster Z. Sullivan in 1:12.

(4d) DEATH YAMA-PUMPKIN vs. TRAINEE HAYAMA

The pumpkin hissed “Death!” Hayama kicked her in the face. Springboard armdrag and some high speed action but Pumpking caught her with a roll-through.

WINNER: Death Yama-Pumpkin in 0:23.

(4e) MASKED PRETTY WAN-CHAN vs. TRAINEE URABE

Urabe asked to shake hands before the match and Wan-Chan offered her paw. Crossbodies from Urabe but Wan-Chan kept kicking out. Big boot. Wan-Chan grabbed a giant foam bone and beat on Urabe. Urabe bridged out of the pin but collapsed. Triangle lancer from the pup for the tap out.

WINNER: Masked Pretty Wan-Chan in 1:35.

(4f) FAIRY SEXY JUNGLE vs. TRAINEE TORA

The fairy carried a magic wand and used it to turn off the lights in the arena. They came back on and Tora hit some forearms. She hit the ropes but the fairy flipped her through the air with a spell from her wand and covered for the pin.

WINNER: Fairy Sexy Jungle in 0:33.

-The trainees were upset at the clean sweep. Saya Iida showed up and they instantly got in line for Iida-san. She chewed them out and slapped each of them. Hayter was last in line and slapped her first. Iida said they found their motivation and asked the audience if they should be allowed to wrestle after all. They bowed to their opponents and got in line for a 12-woman tag.

(4g) TOKYO HALLOWEEN SQUAD vs. OEDO TRAINEES

The rookie squad knocked everyone else off the apron and collectively attacked Gas Mask. Jungle used her magic wand to freeze the action. She led Wan-Chan into the ring and put her into position to bite one of the trainees before starting time again. Mike & Sully double-teamed the rookie and Pumpkin and Gas Mask hit moves before the other trainees broke up the pin. Jungle used her wand to flip everyone around and through the air, accidentally catching the referee in the crossfire. She checked on him and Gas Mask made a trainee tap to the octopus.

WINNERS: TCS in 2:09.

(Pageot’s Perspective: Okay, Gas Mask was obviously Hana Kimura and Sexy Jungle was Kyona. Wan-Chan was Konami’s dog character that she’s done before. Bobbi Tyler and Zoe Lucas were Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc. but had the names wrong? Tyler was dressed as Sully but named Wazowski and Lucas was dressed as Mike but introduced as Sullivan. Oedo Tai appeared to be competing under their real surnames. Some of the costumes are very… let’s just say odd. Lots of fun comedy, though. My personal favorite moments were Iida being the griseled trainer to the young newcomers and Jungle using her magic powers to freeze time and flip people.)

-Black Fuzzy Peach held a baseball bat. Jigsaw (from the Saw movies) said they wanted to play a game. Fantastic Girl blew kisses to her teammates.

(5) FANTASTIC GIRL, UDN, & SUPER RIHO vs. JIGSAW, BLACK FUZZY PEACH, & GAO JR.

Fantastic Girl and Gao started. Jigsaw hit Riho with a small mallet early on and choked her in the corner. UDN finished off Gao with a twisting splash.

WINNERS: UDN, Girl, & Riho in 8:41.

-UDN said the masked fiesta is a special time they look forward to all year so they wanted a photo with everyone. The entire roster came out for a photo shoot to close. The Oedo trainees held the ropes open for everyone.

(Pageot’s Perspective: Nothing luchadora about Bea Priestley as Jigsaw. Momo Watanabe and Leo Onozaki looked pretty much the same as usual in their QQ masks. Same with Riho. Her pink mask just made her look even more like Starlight Kid’s big sister. UDN stands for Unlimited Dream Navigator, which is also the name of Arisa Hoshiki’s band. Could Fantastic Girl be our next world champion? We’ll find out in a week at the next Stardom show when she faces Jigsaw for the red belt.)
