NXT ON USA PRIMER 11/13: Will Survivor Series invasion continue? Plus Lio Rush defends against Angel Garza, Mia Yim vs. Io Shirai in Ladder Match with War Games steps

By Amin Ajani, PWTorch contributor

SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

Io Shirai and Mia Yim will clash in a Ladder Match to see which team will have the advantage leading into the first-ever Women’s WarGames match. Last week The OC took the fight to the Undisputed ERA as they invaded NXT the question remains will other superstars from RAW or Smackdown follow along this path? The action on NXT is heating up as we are less than two weeks away from NXT TakeOver: WarGames and Survivor Series as NXT will be taking part for the first time. Make sure you tune into NXT tonight on USA Network which will be broadcasted live from Full Sail University as Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuiness and Beth Phoenix will be calling the action. Here’s what currently advertised for tonight’s show.
Lio Rush defends the NXT Cruiserweight Championship against Angel Garza

Last week Angel Garza earned an NXT Cruiserweight Championship match after defeating Tony Nese in a Number One Contenders’s match. Garza sent a message to the champion by refusing a handshake and instead slapping the Man of the Hour across his face. The question is has Garza gotten into the head of Rush before their championship match?

(Amin’s Analysis: This should be a very good match and a way to showcase the Cruiserweight talent on NXT. I think Garza should be champion but it’s too early for a title change with Rush just retuning back. I would expect this rivalry to continue and lead to the first NXT Cruiserweight Championship match on a Takeover: Special)

Mia Yim and Io Shirai to clash in a Ladder Match for the WarGames advantage

The advantage for the first-ever Women’s WarGames match hangs in the balance as Io Shirai and Mia Yim will clash in a Ladder Match. Shirai will representing the side of NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler and Yim will representing Rhea Ripley’s side. The question is who will climb the ladder and gain the advantage for their respective team heading into WarGames.

(Amin’s Analysis: I’m most excited to watch this match as it will be really fun to see my favourite Io Shirai compete in a ladder match. I would expect Shirai to win as the heel team usually get the advantage in the WarGames match)

Will Killian Dain still be on the warpath?

Last week, Pete Dunne got a measure of payback after making Damian Priest submit. Dunne’s victory was cut short when he was attacked by Killian Dain who mentioned he had unfinished business with the BruiserWeight. Will Dain’s path of destruction continue tonight on NXT?

(Amin’s Analysis: I’m interested to see where this leads because Dunne attack both Dain and Priest. I would expect Dain and Dunne to have a single’s match but I’m interested to see where this leads with Priest. An eventual tag match with Dunne getting a partner could be the way this goes)

Will the takeover continue?

As Survivor Series draws closer we’ve seen NXT make their presence felt on RAW and SmackDown. We’ve also see The OC invade NXT and the superstars of RAW hold their ground against NXT UK. The question is will the superstars of RAW or SmackDown step into Full Sail and send NXT another message?

(Amin’s Analysis: It will be interesting to see who else from RAW or SmackDown appear in the coming weeks and how much of a factor will they play on NXT. I’m interested to see how the build to Survivor Series will separate from the NXT TakeOver: WarGames build)

The Big Takeaway from last week’s show

The OC got a bit of revenge as they jumped The Undisputed ERA outside Full Sail after NXT sent the first message before Survivor Series. The main event ended in complete chaos as Finn Balor made his presence felt by spiking Matt Riddle with a 1916 DDT on the floor. AJ Styles and Balor held up their signature pose which excited wrestling fans of a possible reunion. NXT Champion got the last word after taking out both Tommaso Ciampa and Styles. Balor and Cole had a stare down as we are getting more questions than answers leading into NXT TakeOver: WarGames. Rhea Ripley picked Mia Yim over Dakota Kai as the final member of her WarGames team.

Final Thoughts

The next couple weeks should be really interesting to watch as we will see how they continue to build up the NXT TakeOver: WarGames and the Survivor Series PPV at the same time. I except the calibre of shows to remain the same and the wrestling to be solid throughout. I will say as someone who watches RAW and SmackDown as well, the addition of the NXT wrestlers have been a positive as they feel like the top stars in WWE.
