SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

It appeared as though a Briscoes vs. FTR match might never happen after the two tag teams had an encounter at Final Battle 2021, but today it was announced that the match is on.

After Tony Khan confirmed that Supercard of Honor was happening on Busted Open and he would be running the show, it was announced The Briscoes will defend the ROH World Tag Team Championship against FTR on April 1 at the Supercard of Honor PPV.

A report that was published on by Fightful stated that AEW wasn’t going to sign the Briscoes due to a person of influence in Warnermedia that didn’t want them in AEW due to Jay Briscoe posting a homophobic tweet in 2013.

The tweet read, ““The Delaware Senate passed a bill yesterday that allows same sex couples to get married. If that makes you happy, then congratulations!!!!!! … try and teach my kids that there’s nothing wrong with that and I’ll f*cking shoot you.”

ROH fined Jay two shows worth of pay for his actions and had him donate the money to a charity organization called Partners Against Hate. Jay also issued an apology for his actions at an ROH live event. Since the news came out that AEW wasn’t going to sign the Briscoes, The Briscoes appeared on The Battleground podcast and Jay apologized for his Tweet.

“I want to say, thank you to the people who really know…we get labeled as homophobes,” said Jay. “I put out a stupid tweet nine years ago, the most dumbest, immature, obnoxious sh** I’ve ever done. I don’t want anybody, from any walk of life, to feel like they can’t care for the Briscoes because I promise we love everybody. We love everybody and we just want to go out there and be pro wrestlers and give the best match that we can.”Supercard of Honor will air live on PPV on Fite.tvEmail Sean at pwtorchsean@gmail.com.
