SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite has wrapped. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and relive some of the madness.

-C.M. Punk and Dustin Rhodes had a damn wrestling match. It wasn’t fancy and wasn’t always smooth either. A fight, though, and that’s the idea.

-Punk going face to face with Adam Page after his match is a not-so-subtle hint as to where both men are going. That’s your Double or Nothing main event and the AEW World Championship will be on the line. The audience buzzed for their confrontation, but it’s a bizarre booking choice to make around two top babyfaces.

-More Blackpool Combat Club into the veins please. Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, Wheeler Yuta, and William Regal are such a fun bunch to watch and have a strong chemistry together already. The aggressive nature of the group gives the show something it otherwise doesn’t have.

-A strong video package recapping and hyping the Jay Lethal vs. Samoa Joe saga to this point. The feud was presented in a serious way with both Joe and Lethal coming across as stars. If I’m Tony Khan, I’m getting this in the ring as soon as possible. No need to wait until PPV.

-The New Japan/AEW supershow is going to be an actual thing. No, the announcement didn’t need to be made on Dynamite, but it certainly is a major announcement. There are dream matches all around between the two rosters and it should make for compelling television throughout the build. Chicago will be rocking on June 26 as well.

-It’s Adam Cole vs. Tomohiro Ishii on AEW Rampage this week. Cole’s chest will cave in because of Ishii. Yes? Or no?

-More of the same between Wardlow and MJF this week. That said, the “same” has been consistently good with Wardlow and MJF getting the desired reactions each week and in a strong way. Thumbs up.

-Kyle O’Reilly pinning Jungle Boy to qualify for the Owen Hart Foundation tournament was an interesting booking choice. Due to Cole’s statement on someone from the Undisputed Elite winning it, O’Reilly being in does make sense, but it’s at Jungle Boy’s expense. Christian got involved after the match and tried to comfort Jungle Boy on the loss. Maybe this is an avenue to jumpstart that feud?

-I’m a big fan of the Hook act. It’s unique and leans into Hook’s natural charisma. A feud with Danhausen makes zero sense. Danhausen is a babyface, so AEW is voluntarily watering down whatever momentum Hook had by putting them together. In addition, there is nothing less serious or ridiculous on a weekly wrestling show than Danhausen. A strong, green babyface shouldn’t be asked to deal with something on this level. At best, Danhausen is a strong comedy character act. Hook gains very little from working with him.

-Well, Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti are official heels. It was weird nodding along to Dan Lambert, but alas, that’s where we’re at.

Britt Baker has fallen too much in love with her own stuff. The mic work was fine, but what purpose did it serve? Less fun and more business would help her progress along more efficiently.

-Good main event. Darby Allin and Andrade worked hard and told a strong story. The finish felt off and mistimed, but it didn’t hurt the enjoyment of the bout. Sting thrived once again as well.
