-Joe Tessitore introduced the show as a drone flew over the line of fans outside the arena earlier. Then a Cadillac SUV (no one is going through the windshield of that vehicle) drove up and the Usos got out. Then they cut to Tessitore and Wade Barrett at ringside. Tessitore said “one of the biggest WrestleMania rematches you could dream of is coming your way.” He hyped Liv Morgan vs. Stephanie Vaquer.
(Keller’s Analysis: Tessitore has real strengths as a lead announcer for WWE, but his tone-deaf statements to try to overhype certain things might never have been more glaring than that statement regarding this WrestleMania rematch.)
-A video recap aired of Bronson Reed’s return last night at Sunday Night’s Main Event, interrupting the Bron Breakker vs. Oba Femi match.
-The Vision then made their entrance – Bronson Reed leading Logan Paul, Bron Breakker, Austin Theory, and Maxxine Dupri to the ring. Theory and Maxxine locked eyes pretty much the whole way to the ring. Reed has a new intense look and demeanor that makes him feel like a bigger star and more of a leader. Barrett hyped King of the Ring qualifiers tonight: Rey Mysterio vs. Ethan Page vs. Breakker and Sol Ruca vs. Lyra Valkyria vs. Maxxine Dupri.
Breakker had the mic in hand to start the promo segment. As soon as their music stopped, boos rang out. Breakker said, “The Vision is here and The Vision runs WWE.” Fans chanted, “Oba! Oba!” He said they can chant all they want for Oba, but he’s not medically cleared, so he won’t be there. He said last night on Sunday Night’s Main Event, “I rightfully took my spot as the future of WWE.” He said it’s all because of Reed.
Reed said Oba Femi thought he was untouchable. He said Oba thinks he’s untouchable, but he doesn’t recognize the crown. He said he thought he was untouchable until he felt four Tsunamis. He said now that he’s back, there is no place for him on Raw. He said The Vision is complete and they do not ask what happens next, they decide it.
Logan took the mic. Fans booed. He said they are mindless drones buzzing around Alabama, not known for their intuition. He said he deserves more respect, so surely they must see that they are unstoppable. He said it is literally unfair.
Theory took the mic and grinned widely as fans sang “Oba!” Theory asked, “Oba Who?” He said all of them hate to see them shine, but too bad because they’re just getting started taking all the gold. He said Breakker is going to quality for Money in the Bank tonight “and so is my delicious Vision Queen, my Maxxine.” She thanked him and told him not to listen to the boos. She complimented how jacked he was when she was interrupted by Akira Tozawa.
Theory said he could let his woman handle him, but she’s busy, so he volunteered to whip his ass again. Tozawa said he’ll be fighting, but not against him. Then Otis walked out.
(1) OTIS (w/Akira Tozawa) vs. AUSTIN THEORY
The bell rang 12 minutes into the hour. Otis went on the attack, tossing Theory around and giving him a belly punch. Fans loudly chanted, “Let’s Go Otis!” Austin ducked a charging Otis and rolled to the ring apron. He then he snapped his neck over the top rope. He slingshot himself thorugh the ropes and clotheslined Otis. He landed on his own face and suffered a cut lower lip. That was kind of embarrassing. Maxxine yelled that he was “crushing it.” A corner graphic advertised JD McDonagh vs. Joe Hendry for later on the show.
Otis threw some punches and then collided with Theory to knock him down. Theory rolled to ringside where Maxxine checked on him. Otis pursued him and knocked him down. They cut to a break at 3;00. [c]
Otis went on the attack after Theory returned to the ring. Otis then did The Caterpillar, but before he could reach Theory, Reed attacked him. The ref called for the DQ.
WINNER: Otis via DQ in 7:00.
-The Vision ganged up on Otis and Tozawa afterward. Fans chanted for Oba. Breakker landed his running rebound spear as Theory held him. Tozawa was cornered. The Vision swarmed him. Tessitore said there was a “hopelessness here.” As The Vision stood over Tozawa and admired their work, fans popped as the big screen showed Oba backstage marching toward the entrance. Oba went on the attack and took out everyone, including clotheslining Breakker over the top rope. He left ribs were taped. Theory bashed Oba from behind with a chair. Oba no-sold it and then punched the chair into Theory. Oba tossed Theory across the ring. Breakker recovered and caught Oba with a spear. Reed splashed him in the corner. Breaker landed another spear. Reed landedd a senton. Reed then landed a Tsunami. And another. Officials ran into the ring and implored The Vision to leave the ring. Breakker instead speared Oba one more time and then barked at the crowd. Then Reed landed yet another Tsunami. Fans chanted, “You suck!”
(Keller’s Analysis: This was so much more enjoyable to watch with the crowd engaged like they were, fiercely against The Vision and for Otis and Oba. There was no fourth-wall-breaking nonsense. No insider references. Nothing META. Just a faction of thugs, each leaning into their distinct negative traits, getting booed and using their numbers to decimate popular babyfaces.)
-They went to Tessitore and Barrett at ringside to react. They threw to a vignette on Royce Keys and his crew.
-Keys said, “Ain’t nobody safe.” He introduced Nima and Price while showing black and white footage with accents of red of what they did backstage last week.
-They showed the Usos walking backstage. Fans cheered. They confronted Jacob Fatu. Jey told him to grab something so they can call Keys and his crew out. Fatu said that’s exactly what they want him to do. He said they have nothing to lose. He said they spilled their blood. He said he is from the same side they’re from and know how they operate. Jey told Fatu to call the play. “What are we doing?” he asked. Fatu said, “Lay low, play it slow; our next move has to be our best move.” He said they should talk in the locker room. The Usos followed. [c]
-Tessitore plugged TripleMania.
-Becky Lynch approached Vaquer backstage. Vaquer asked what she was doing there. Becky said she’s trying to be nice after they got off on the wrong foot, but she’s not sure she decides it. She said she shouldn’t be too proud to take a helping hand. She said Liv with her crew outnumber the two of them. She said if Vaquer wins, she wants the first title shot if she helps fend off The Judgment Day. Vaquer said she doesn’t want Becky’s help because every time she does, they betray her. Becky said, “Fine, then go back to Chile as a loser.”
-Cathy Kelley interviewed comedian Matt Matthews at ringside who said he grew up as an Attitude Era kid. Miz interrupted and asked, “Really? Really?” He walked out with Kit Wilson and complained that they are giving away his earned airtime as he approaches the 20th anniversary of his in-ring debut. He mocked the way he perceived Alabamans talked. Matthews asked who he was. Then he said he was recalling who he was, “but I thought you retired.” Miz yanked Matthews over the barricade and then into the ring. Wilson grabbed him and shoved him into the ropes. Matthews gave him a head scissors. As Matthews gloated, Miz gave him a Skull Crushing Finale.
(Keller’s Analysis: Why was Matthews trained to counter Wilson with a huracanrana? It cheapened the move to have someone, who wasn’t presented as trained, able to pull that off and have an actual wrestle bump for him.)
(2) BRON BREAKKER vs. ETHAN PAGE vs. REY JMYSTERIO – Money in the Bank qualifier
Back from the break, they showed Breakker spearing Miz and Wilson at ringside and then spearing Matthews in the ring. Ethan Page was then making his way around ringside to his music. He offered a selfie to a guy in the front row, but then blew him off. Rey made his full entrance next. The bell rang 42 minutes into the hour.
(Keller’s Analysis: The downside of this match so far is fans had a reason to cheer Breakker when he beat up Miz and Wilson before the match and the Ethan in this match. Fans ended up barking in response, so all that heel heat earned in the opening segment turns into emotional whiplash for the fans who suddenly find themselves rooting for him in a new context. WWE would benefit from avoiding these situations.)
Rey countered Breakker with a leaping hurancanrana (a move so basic, even an untrained scrawny comedian can improvise it). Breakker took over again quickly. Rey knocked Breakker into the corner. Breaker fell to the floor. Rey got the better of Ethan next and set up a 619. Breakker blocked it and pulled Rey to ringside and lawn darted him over the ringside barricade. Breakker then overhead tossed Ethan over the top rope. Breakker leaped off the ring apron and clotheslined Ethan into the announce desk. Rey then leaped off the barricade and landed a West Coast Pop on Breakker as they cut to a break at 4:00. [c]
Back from the break, Ethan and Rey were battling.
