SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
HIT – Eddie Edwards vs Rich Swann: Easily the match of the night, which in a rare occasion was not difficult as there were only four matches total, which is low for Impact.
They got a lot of TV time at twenty minutes, and it occupied the main event spot, and both competitors put on a show.
Edwards seems to be the man that is next in line after Josh Alexander vs Moose happens, which I have to assume is going to be an Alexander victory from how things look just now.
Nice to see Edwards getting a little push back into the Impact World Championship picture.
HIT – Josh Alexander promo opening: We all know his in-ring capabilities are beyond reproach, but him getting a chance to show off his passion and determination on the mic was a fantastic way to kick off the show. In any other show it would have been the best promo of the night.
He weaved a lot of reality into his promo, which I always love and be interesting to see how Moose responds in the coming weeks.
Intersecting the Honor No More story with his championship pursuit makes a tonne of sense if he is being positioned as Mr. Impact.
HIT – Willie Mack vs Kenny King: a match created as a result of the brawl after the opening promo segment. A very solid match between two top pros, nothing exciting to report. Good finish from Mack. It was good to see D’Amore ban any outside interference, so we got an uninterrupted match.
Would be nice to see Honor No More faction members win more of these matches to make the invading force look stronger.
HIT – Austin vs Skyler vs Steve: good match albeit with the winner being fairly obvious before we started. It wasn’t your usual X-Division level of quality, but a solid match, nonetheless.
Austin, as well as being a top wrestler, has something special about him and his winning this match means we are nearer seeing some of this potential realized.
HIT – Alex Shelley/Bullet Club promo segment: Such a great segment overall. My highlight of the show this week.
Some good gloating from Jay White and the Good Brothers being heelish and obnoxious about regaining their titles, was good stuff. This was then ramped up a few notches with Alex Shelley coming out and tearing down Jay White.
He managed to convey his influence over modern wrestling without ever seeming arrogant and was able to put White in his place. Which if this results in another one-on-one match, then great for us.
And to top it all off, Chris Sabin, comes out for a Motor City Machine Guns (temporary or otherwise) reunion to face Chris Bey and Jay White next week. That will almost certainly steal the show.
MISS – 8 Women’s Tag Match: it would have been nice to have seen more of this. Six minutes is not long enough to get everybody a decent amount of ring time.
So, a miss rating for that, but mainly for Tasha Steelz being pinned in her first match as Knockouts Champion. This seems terrible shortsighted and doesn’t foster much hope for her reign.
You have her sidekick, Savannah Evans, there to take pins, that is her job for the moment!
Overall show thoughts: Another fine episode, albeit one with less in ring action than normal. We are now in a longer build to next PPV, which is probably a good thing as we can let stories breathe, rest some stars along the way. Two big events in quick succession took its toll a bit, and nice to have a little bit of a reset.
Some notable names not on the show or focused too much shows the depth of their roster, however whilst it makes sense for Morrissey to take a week off, as there is not much for him to be doing and they are potentially running short of tables for him to put guys through, it would have been good to see Steve Maclin on this week to hear a little more about his intentions.
Only other slight grumble was again the world championship not necessarily being the A-Story each week, which I am sure will pass as I know which story and eventual match has got me tuning in every week.
