[HOUR ONE]

-They opened with a shot of the 2300 Arena crowd and then Bryan Danielson’s music played. Excalibur introduced the show and said Danielson is now the latest member of the color commentary team. He led the crowd in a “Yes!” chant. Excalibur said, “It’s a changing of the guard here at the desk.” He said Danielson is joining them as a member of the announce team and his “competitor in-ring days are behind him.” Excalibur listed scheduled matches as the camera panned the crowd.

(Keller’s Analysis: I’m all for setting the stage and listing the line-up, but showing fans just waiting for something happen as Excalibur lists the matches without any emotion or context is about the worst, laziest, least effective way to get people excited about the show. How about some graphics? How about some evidence of human emotions beyond the monotone delivery of the matches like he’s listing inventory on a storage shelf? How about a soundbite or a hook?)

(1) “HANGMAN” ADAM PAGE vs. JOSH ALEXANDER (w/Don Callis, Lance Archer, Rocky Romero)

Hangman came out first. Then Alexander accompanied by Don Callis, Rocky Romero, and Lance Archer. The bell rang 4 minutes into the hour. Danielson said he arrived in AEW thinking no one was going to stop him and Hangman was the first who stopped him. He said it’s the same for Alexander. Hangman clotheslined Alexander off the ring apron a minute in. He followed with a moonsault press off the ring apron onto an awaiting Alexander. He then clotheslined him into the front row. “This is dangerous,” said Callis. “He’s among the rubes.” They cut to Callis and Danielson smiling after some verbal bickering.

Back in the ring, Alexander landed some chops. Hangman countered with a clothesline and Alexander was kind enough to pre-bump backwards half way over the top rope before Hangman even made contact. Hangman then flung himself over the top rope onto Alexander at ringside. Hangman then set up a top rope move, but Alexander rolled back into the ring and then rolled out to the other side. They cut to a double-box break at 5:00. [c/db]

Back from the break, Alexander had taken control. Fans were chanting, “F— Don Callis!” Danielson said it was sickening what Kyle Fletcher did to Kenny Omega last week, noting he has a history of injuries. Callis said Fletcher is the future of pro wrestling. Danielson said he just said that on a media tour of Australia. Excalibur said Fletcher can be the future without incapacitating Omega. Callis said to be the future “you have to destroy the past.” Hangman made a comeback and scored a two count after Death Valley Driver at 10:00.

Alexander ducked a Buckshot Lariat attempt and quickly delivered three German suplexes to Hangman. The third was on the ring apron. He tried a fourth, but Hangman landed on his feet and overhead tossed Alexander into the security barricade. Fans chanted “Holy shit!” Both were down and slow to get up. They returned to the ring and exchanged strikes on their knees. Alexander leaped off the second rope and flipped over with Hangman on his shoulders for a slam and a two count. He followed up with a standing anklelock. Hangman reached the bottom rope to force a break.

They battled on the ring apron. Hangman landed a Dead Eye. He then climbed to the top rope and hit Alexander with a moonsault press. Callis stood on the ring apron and distracted the ref as Archer tried for a chokeslam on the ring apron. Hangman blocked it, (sorta) punched Archer to the floor, and then batted away an interfering Romero. He then landed a Buckshot Lariat for the win. Excalibur said, “Incredible toughness shown by Josh Alexander.”

WINNER: Hangman in 16:00.

-Hangman remained in the ring. He said he didn’t spill a gallon of his blood to win the championship just to have MJF change the stipulations of his title matches by threatening immolation. He called Callis “a phallus-head.” He said he is there to wrestle and defend his title. He was interrupted by Kyle Fletcher’s theme.

Fletcher walked out with Callis. He said Hangman’s sentiment is lovely, but it doesn’t matter. He said the Don Callis Family runs AEW. He said this past Saturday, he threw out a proposal to him and he had yet to hear response. “Please, I am all ears,” he said. Hangman said he understands the point he was trying to make because he’s done things like that before himself. He told him if he wants to challenge the World Champion, get his ass to the ring and look him in the eyes.

Fletcher talked with Callis, then entered the ring. Hangman said when he looks at Fletcher, “I see a man with potential who can’t put on a pair of socks.” He was wearing shoes without visible socks. He said he’s built like a “brick shithouse.” He said he is fast and strong, but when he looks him, there is one thing he sees above all else. He said after what he did last week, he is not ready.

Fletcher said he’s heard that his whole career. He said he is 26 and he decides when he is ready, and he is in his prime and ready to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. Hangman said he’ll give him a shot at the title at All Out if he wants it, but he wants something from him. He said he needs him to leave Callis behind and “find some socks.”

Fletcher asked Hangman if he thinks having Callis in his corner makes a difference. He said he’ll do it on his own. He said he won’t fail like Hangman did a thousand times over. He said he will say his name after he beats him.

(Keller’s Analysis: Solid straight-forward set-up. I’m not sure if that was going to be Wardlow’s spot if he had stayed healthy or not. I’d have preferred they build Fletcher up more as a long-term dominant TNT Champion for a long time so this felt like a dream match with a ton of anticipation, but given the lay of the land, this is still going to feel like a moment of elevation for Fletcher and a potential great match.)

-A clip aired of Briscoe challenging MJF during Collision on Saturday after MJF shoved him off the top rope leading to Takeshita getting a win.

-A clip aired of MJF in a parking garage last week after Collision. He said he told his fiance that their honeymoon cannot take place until Mark Briscoe “is dead.” He said she told him if he left at that moment, they were done. He said he caller her “a silly little bitch” and said he was married before he met her. He said he is married to vengeance and ending Briscoe. He said he slammed the door with a smile on his face. He said he’s going to give Briscoe the same answer he gave on his wedding night, “I do. I do! By god, I do!” He was yelling and red-faced and frothing as he concluded. [c]

-A clip aired from earlier in the day at catering of Renee Paquette asking about what they’ll do with the money if they win a $500,000 ten-man tag team match. She said they probably could use the money as much as anyone. Matt Jackson said he will be eating better food. Nick Jackson said he’ll take it straight to the casino and doubling it on old fashioned slot machines. They had trouble finding people willing to sit next to them. They sat by Brandon Cutler, but he said he should have told them a long time ago to shut up. He got up and left. Jon Moxley then took Cutler’s seat and said nothing has changed. He said they are still the best tag team in the world. “Show up to win!” he said. He said if they win, the Bucks can split the money $250,000 each, giving up his share.

(2) MERCEDES MONE & EMI SAKURA vs. RIHO & ALEX WINDSOR

The bell rang 40 minutes into the hour. They cut to a break at 3:00. [c]

Windsor stopped Mercedes from interfering as Riho made Sakura tap out to a single-leg crab.

WINNERS: Riho & Windsor in 10:00.

-Renee interviewed Ricochet and Gates of Agony in the parking garage. Ricochet talked about facing Hurt Syndicate at All Out. He suggested to Shelton Benjamin they wrestle without anyone at ringside. He said when he beats him and the smoke clears, they’ll have to respect him.

(Keller’s Analysis: I still have no sense from this promo whether viewers are supposed to be rooting for or against Ricochet.)

-A video played, narrated by Renee, touting the credentials of FTR and Adam Copeland & Christian Cage.

-Stokely Hathaway said the video package was bullshit. Cash almost made it past fans without getting in the face of one of them as security moved closer. Stokely entered the ring with Dax. Cash joined them. He said he hates the arena and “nobody is getting any hos.” Dax said the match should have been a dream match. He dared someone to enter the ring and fight them. Dax got in the face of a fan in the front row. He got in the face of another fan. Then he dropped the mic and then got in the face of the fan that Cash did on his way to the ring. Cash apparently knocked over the camera man. Dax and Cash beat on him. Security intervened. Excalibur said it was “uncalled for.” Taz asked what was wrong with those guys. Danielson called it “unprofessional.”

[HOUR TWO]

-Renee interviewed Hurt Syndicate backstage. She asked about Ricochet’s gentlemen’s agreement. MVP said they are gentlemen. Shelton interrupted and said, “I got this one.” He said he’ll put his “goofy ass on your back” Lashley smiled. MVP looked impressed.

(Keller’s Analysis: Again, zero emotions stirred up as they each seemed equally unlikable and likable.)

(3) RICOCHET vs. SHELTON BENJAMIN

As they fought at ringside, they cut to an early break. [c/db]

Ricochet hit a Spanish Fly off the top rope for a near fall. Fans chanted “This is awesome!” and “Fight forever!” Ricochet pulled out his scissors. Shelton took them away and threatened to use scissors as a weapon. Fans chanted, “ECW!” Shelton snapped them in half and threw them out of the ring. Danielson said he likes that decision. Bishop Kaun ran out and distracted the ref as Toa Liona headbutted Shelton. Ricochet then rolled him up for the win.

WINNER: Ricochet in 10:00.

(Keller’s Analysis: Well, at least they did something definitive to establish who the heels are in this through actual actions. The scissors are still an over-the-top gimmick to threaten to use as a weapon.)

-A clip aired of Hook chilling and leaning back on a rooftop with a fire table in the foreground. He said it makes sense that when someone is hurt, it’s next man up. He said he appreciates the Opps will always have his back. He said it’s time for him to stand on his own, referring to himself in the third-person. He then took off his sunglasses, leaned forward, and said, “Or maybe not.” [c]

-Tony Schiavone interviewed Fletcher and Callis. He asked about the All Out match scheduled earlier with Fletcher challenging Hangman for the AEW Title. Callis said Fletcher doesn’t need anyone at ringside interfering on his behalf. Fletcher said the final step has been written and the Callis Family will possess the AEW Title again. He promised him he’s bringing the title home. Callis laughed and hugged him.

(4) “TIMELESS” TONI STORM vs. SKYE BLUE – Philadelphia Street Fight

Justin Roberts introduced the match. Storm came out first. They brawled at ringside to start the match 23 minutes into the hour. Blue used a stapler on Storm’s ass cheeks. Fans chanted, “You sick f—!” Taz muttered, “It’s going to tough going through TSA with that.” Blue then stapled Storm in the boobs and crotch. Taz laughed. “I’ve seen a lot in this building; that might be a first,” he said. “I have many lines to say, but I just can’t.” Danielson said he feels physical revulsion. Storm made a comeback and used the stapler on Blue and so Blue rolled out of the ring. Storm then landed hip attack to knock Blue to the floor. As Storm played to the crowd, they cut to a double-box break. [c/db]

Storm ate some Swiss cheese after revealing a table covered in mouse traps. She offered the announcers a slice of cheese she had taken a bite out of it. Storm snapped a trap onto Blue’s fingers. She set up a Storm Zero off the ring apron, but Blue countered and powerbombed Storm onto the table. The table didn’t break, but some mouse traps snapped. Danielson it actually hurts more when you slam someone on a table and it doesn’t break.

Back in the ring, Storm smashed Blue with a chair across the back a few times. She followed with a DDT for a near fall. Storm took out a bug zapper. She touched it and got zapped. Taz had never seen one and asked how it worked. “We didn’t have that in ’98,” he said. Storm spanked Blue with it. Fans chanted, “She’s hardcore! She’s hardcore!” Storm placed a trash can sideways on the mat and then set up a superplex. Blue slipped free and then powerbombed Storm onto the trash can for a near fall.

Blue set up a Code Blue, but Storm blocked it and shoved a chair at Blue’s head. She then put a 2300 Arena sign against Blue and smashed her with it. Storm then landed Storm Zero for the win.

WINNER: Storm in 12:00.

-Julia and Thekla attacked Storm afterward. Kris Statlander ran out to the ring and made the save, but she was soon overwhelmed. Jamie Hayter then charged out, but she was knocked to the floor. Thekla then attacked Storm and stood over her with the AEW Title belt in hand. She then bridged backwards over Storm’s fallen body.

-Renee interviewed Willow Nightingale backstage. Willow said the world of pro wrestling is bananas, so she tries to stand up for the good. She said when people defy it, she takes personal issue with it. She said she punches people in the face. She said Marina Shafir doesn’t get the message. She said she wants to fight her so bad. Harley Cameron entered the scene and played a guitar and sang for Willow. She sang that Statlander is a good person who didn’t mean to harm her. Willow said she is lovely, but she has been down the road with Statlander before. She told Harley to watch her back. Renee joined Harley in finishing the lyrics about drawing a “cat on your face.”

-Excalibur hyped the $500,000 ten-man tag match. [c]

-Excalibur hyped Collision: Adam Priest & Tommy Billington vs. FTR in a rematch, MJF would appear, Mark Briscoe would announce the stipulation for the MJF match at All Out, Kazuchika Okada vs. Michael Oku in an AEW Unified Championship Tournament qualifier and Konosuke Takeshita vs. Anthony Bowens in a AEW Unified Championship Tournament qualifier, deciding two of the three finalists in the three-way match at All Out. (The Beast Mortos vs. Mascara Dorada takes place at Dynamite next week in the third qualifier.)

(5) THE YOUNG BUCKS (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson) & CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI & JON MOXLEY & WHEELER YUTA (w/Marina Shafir) vs. BRODIDO (Bandido & Brody King) & THE OPPS (Samoa Joe & Powerhouse Hobbs & Shibata)

The Bucks came out first and they were listed as “Matthew Ronjon Massie and Micholas Lee Massie.” The Death Riders came out next. Then Powerhouse Hobbs, Samoa Joe, and Shibata came out. Then Brodido made their entrance. The bell rang 48 minutes into the hour. After chaos in the ring, they cut to a double-box break at 5:00. [c/db]

At 10:00, after a rally by Bandido, Hobbs tagged in. He knocked over Moxley and Claudio with clotheslines and then landed running clotheslines against them in the corner. He then smashed them in the corner. He lowered his straps and snarled with self-satisfaction. Marina Shafir distracted Hobbs. Wheeler Yuta smashed Hobbs with a chair across the back. Hobbs no-sold it and threw Yuta to the floor. He then landed a flying clothesline on Claudio. Brody then entered and beat up the Bucks.

Eventually, the Bucks countered Bandido’s offense. When Matt covered Bandido, Nick held his legs down so he had extra leverage for a three count.

WINNERS: The Bucks & Death Riders in 15:00.

The Death Riders ended ganging up on Shibvata. Excalibur said it was never about the money, but rather inflicting pain. Darby ran to the ring. He put Moxley in a sleeper in the ring. Darby yelled at Mox, but then Daniel Garcia attacked Darby from behind. He had a black hoodie, but lowered the hood. Fans booed. Fans chanted “Asshole!” and “You sold out!” Excalibur asked, “What kind of decision has Daniel Garcia made?” Shafir entered the ring and laid down a chair. Mox then told Garcia to smash Darby’s face into the chair. He stomped on Darby several times afterward.
