[HOUR ONE]
-Excalibur introduced the show as they showed cheering fans.
-A recap aired of the Kenny Omega-Swerve Strickland argument last week.
-Tony Schiavone stood mid-ring and introduced Omega and Swerve, who came out separately. Prince Nana was with Swerve. Swerve said five years ago Omega was at the top of wrestling world and everyone wanted to face him and saw him as a wrestling god. He said since then, he made it to the top, while Omega was either suspended or in a hospital bed or in Tokyo.
He called him a false prophet. He said the congregation is looking for someone new to follow. He said he won’t call himself a god, but the church sings “Whose House!” everywhere he goes. He said suddenly Omega shows up again and says he feels better than ever. He accused him of perhaps using his EVP power to get into the World Title mix.
Swerve said he had to fight with EVPs for the last two years. He called them “a couple of idiots who liked to stroke their own egos and abuse their power.” He warmed him not to use his power to step in front of him “or I’ll put you down”
Omega asked if he can talk now. He said he never once called himself the god of pro wrestling. “That is a name these people gave me,” he said. He said he never asked for their adulation. He said they made signs, wore shirts, cheered, enjoyed themselves, and see AEW as the place where the best wrestle. He said when they see a Kenny Omega match, they’re going to see the absolute best. He said it’s in the eye of the beholder whether that make him a god of wrestling. He said for the fans to believe in him “for this one final journey to once again reach the top of the mountain and become champion again and do it the right way.”
Omega said it might be Swerve’s house, but for him to question him, maybe the lights are out. He said if the house needs to be burned down, he has a friend who can help with that. (Why keep bringing up one of the dumbest things done in all of AEW history?) He said he is feeling pretty good, like the “old Kenny.” He said he is feeling championship material and he doesn’t need EVP influence to get it done. He said if not for Swerve last week, he would have had that chance in Australia and then at the PPV or he might be champion already. He said he knows how much Swerve believes in himself. He said all he’s asking for is a fight. He said he can see how he looks at him with disrespect. He said he’ll make it simple for him – accept or yield.
Swerve said Kenny is scared and nervous because his generation is already ahead of him and has lapped him. (They’re 7 years apart in age, by the way.) Swerve said he’s the most dangerous man in AEW. Omega interrupted and mocked him and said he thinks Brody King is the most dangerous man in AEW. Swerve suggested he put Omega back in the hospital and this time he won’t get out of it. Omega said it was a heck of an idea and then slapped Swerve. Swerve took off his jacket and threw it aside. Omega took off his watch and rolled up his sleeves. Swerve turned and speared Omega.
They brawled at ringside. Swerve threw Omega into the ringside steps. Omega threw Swerve into the crowd. They brawled amongst fans. They fought to the stage where Omega landed a V-Trigger. Excalibur said Omega feels better than he has in years and now Swerve is finding out what that means. Omega lifted Swerve onto his shoulders, but Swerve slipped out of his grip and speared him onto some tables below the stage. Fans chanted, “Holy shit!”
(Keller’s Analysis: That felt a bit like their answer to the Roman Reigns-C.M. Punk segment that got so much praise last week, drawing from each other’s history and accentuating their “generational” differences. Although 7 years isn’t quite a generation, Swerve does feel like the generation after Omega who spent years on top before Swerve. This was one of the most believable serious version of Omega ever presented. It was good. The key missing part is Omega’s apology for hastily assuming Swerve cost him his match against Andrade last week, and instead he doubled down even though he had a whole week to catch up on the footage that showed Swerve yanked a screwdriver out of Andrade’s hands and was trying to even the playing field, not tilt it against Omega. Why do that angle and not own it the next week? Omega should have acknowledge he was wrong in assuming the worst last week, but then pivot to explaining why Swerve didn’t earn the benefit of the doubt with anyone.)
-They cut to Excalibur, Schiavone, and Bryan Danielson at ringside. Excalibur previewed the rest of the scheduled matches on the show.
-Renee Paquette interviewed Kyle Fletcher and Don Callis backstage. She told Fletcher he has pressure on him. Callis said he doesn’t feel pressure. “We give the pressure,” Callis said. He said he’ll beat Tommaso Ciampa and then go to Australia as TNT Champion and get a hero’s welcome. Fletcher expressed confidence and then asked if he can do it on his own. Callis said he’d love to kick his feet up and watch from ringside. Callis said Fletcher is the son he never had.
(1) JON MOXLEY & PAC & CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI (w/Marina Shafir) vs. KONOSUKE TAKESHITA & MARK DAVIS & JOSH ALEXANDER
Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Pac, and Marina Shafir made their way through the back all and toward the ring. They passed Wheeler Yuta on their way. Excalibur plugged the Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita for the TNT Title on Saturday at Grand Slam. Takeshita, Davis, and Alexander made their way out next. The bell rang 20 minutes into the hour. Claudio showed off his power against Davis. They cut to a double-box break at 5:00 after Takeshita yanked Pac off the ring apron and then Alexander knocked him to the floor. [c/db]
Claudio and Davis were battling again in the ring. Excalibur said Tony Khan just made his official that next week on Dynamite, Omega vs. Swerve one-on-one had been booked. “That is massive!” said Excalibur. Mox rallied against Takeshita a minute later. Chaos broke out with everyone.
Eventually the heels isolated Mox and stomped away at him. Mox made a comeback and put Alexander in a sleeper and then landed a Death Rider for the three count.
WINNER: Moxley in 15:00.
(Keller’s Analysis: Good dose of sustained hard-hitting wrestling. It was there to not only fill some time with action, but build tension with Mox and Takeshita, who face off one-on-one on Saturday.) [c]
(2) TOMMASO CIAMPA vs. KYLE FLETCHER – TNT Title match
Fletcher came out first with Callis. Then Ciampa made his entrance. The bell rang 42 minutes into the hour. They fought at ringside at 4:00. Ciampa got the better of Fletcher until Fletcher gave him a half-and-half suplex. They cut to a double-box break. [c/db]
Ciampa lifted Fletcher on the stairs and delivered his Psycho Driller air raid crash. Callis said he can’t pin Fletcher at ringside. When Fletcher crawled into the ring, Ciampa landed a running knee for a two count at 9:00. Fletcher landed a back suplex off the middle rope for a two count at 11:00. He followed with a Liger Bomb for a near fall right afterward.
Fletcher caught Ciampa leaping at him at ringside and powerbombed him into the edge of the ring apron. They battled center-ring. Fletcher gave Ciampa a brainbuster suplex for a very near fall. Some fans chanted, “Ref, you suck!” Fletcher came back and landed strikes for a dramatic near fall. Fans were chanting, “AEW!” Justin Roberts announced 15 minutes had passed. Fans groaned a bit.
Fletcvher lawn darted Ciampa into the top turnbuckle and then announced, “The title is mine!” Ciampa kneed a charging Fletcher and landed a brainbuster for a near fall. Fletcher sat up with a sceond windand landed a Michinoku Driver followed by a lariat and a brainbuster suplex for a three count for the win.
WINNER: Fletcher in 17:00 to capture the TNT Title.
(Keller’s Analysis: Showcase match for both wrestlers. Makes sense to have Fletcher show up in Australia with a title, I suppose. The short reign for Ciampa served a purpose of defining him as a championship-level wrestler in AEW.)
[HOUR TWO]
-Renee interviewed Fletcher mid-ring afterward. Callis and Lance Archer were present. Fletcher said he did what he declared he would do. He said he is the greatest TNT Champion of all time and he will defend it against anyone. Mark Briscoe then came out onto the stage. He congratulated him and said he deserves it. He said they’re 3-3 against each other. He said he’d be happy to give him home court advantage for “game seven.” Fletcher said he is sick and tired of his “dumb little face.” He said they might be 3-3, but he’s sick and tired of seeing him. He admitted he said he’d fight anyone, anywhere, so he accepted. He said no. 7 dserves to be bigger and better than the rest. He said he wanted this to be the final chapter, so whoever wins in Sydney will be the very best. He said he says he likes to reach for the sky, so it’ll be a ladder match.
-Excalibur announced All In would take place Aug. 30 in Wembley Stadium in London, England. Tickets go on sale March 16 (pre-sale) and March 20 (general).
-A vignette aired on the women’s AEW Tag Team Title match at Grand Slam with Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron talking about their intentions to retain the belts.
(3) DANNY GARCIA (w/Jon Moxley) & CLARK CONNORS vs. ORANGE CASSIDY & RODERICK STRONG
A soundbite aired with Garcia and Connors backstage. Garcia asked Cassidy if he was sick of hanging with losers. Excalibur said a week ago, Connors and Gabe Kidd abuducted Darby Allin “to the desert and left him high and dry.” He said they are stil waiting for an update. (Shouldn’t Tony Khan perhaps care enough about that to not reward Connors with a match this week? Shouldn’t abducting someone to the desert, dragging them by a truck in a bodybag, and leaving them in the desert call for perhaps being fired or arrested or at least, gosh, not treated like a regular employee wrestling the next week?)
Mox joined in on commentary. He said Marina Shafir would look good bald and has the confidence to pull it off. He said he loves Gabe Kidd and would do anything for him. He said he is in Japan. He said he’s an affiliate of the Death Riders. He said he likes Clark. He said their part of the War Dogs, whom they’re friendly with. The bell rang 11 minutes into the hour. They cut to a double-box break at 4:00. [c/db]
Strong dropped off the ring apron after Cassidy kipped up and reached for a tag. Cassidy asked what he was doing. Connors then knocked Cassidy over and then Garcia stomped away at him in the corner. They fought at ringside. Darby yanked Connors over the ringside barricade. Cassidy leaped onto Garcia, then threw him into the ring. Garcia blocked an Orange Punch, but Cassidy small packaged Garcia for a three count. He didn’t celebrate, but rather looked at the aisle where Strong abandoned him.
WINNER: Cassidy in 9:00.
-Toni Storm and Luther were in a luxury suite. Her music played. She said she has made peace with her life choices. She said if Shafir knocked her out cold in front of her friends, family, and former lovers, she deserves to shave her head. She said she will evolve into the most beautiful bald bastard the world has ever seen. She said if she beats her, she will shave her head so close to her skull, they will slap a price tag on her and sell her at Spirit Halloween. She called Yuta the “most annoying little shit.” Yuta stepped out and interrupted Storm and yelled, “Enough!” Fans chanted, “F— you, Yuta!” He was joined by Shafir who dragged Mina Shirakawa out with her. Yuta cut off some of her hair and then slammed her to the floor.
-Excalibur hyped “Hangman” Adam Page vs. Andrade El Idolo for Saturday.
-Callis told Andrade that he knew he’d pin Omega. Callis said they are a team and he knew Andrade was the man to take out Omega. He said if you get in their way, you get run over. Andrade thanked Callis for believing in him. He then addressed Hangman in Spanish.
(Keller’s Analysis: Why doesn’t Callis look into the camera when he cuts promos sometimes?)
-Backstage, Hangman cut a promo. He said he expected to be facing Omega, but instead he’s wrestling Andrade. He said he is one of the best wrestlers in the world. He spoke some Spanish and said, “See you down under.”
(Keller’s Analysis: Good to see Hangman be calm and composed and not threaten some over-the-top violence against an opponent. This is a good baseline for him most of the time.) [c]
-Kevin Knight and “Speedball” Mike Bailey walked backstage and talked about being Trios Champions. Knight suggested they go after some singles titles. Speedball said Jet Set Rodeo is going for all the gold in 2026.
(4) THE YOUNG BUCKS (Matt & Nick Jackson) vs. THE RASCALZ vs. PRIVATE PARTY – No. 1 Contendership for AEW Tag Team Titles
The bell rang 35 minutes into the hour. Excalibur noted Private Party haven’t been seen in months since losing the AEW Tag Team Titles. He plugged that Fletcher vs. Briscoe for the TNT Title was now official. They cut to a break a few minutes in. [c/db]
They showed Hook snacking in a luxury suite watching the match. At 10:00, all three teams were down and slow to get up. They got around to plugging the main event women’s AEW World Title match at this point. Myron Reed landed a 450 splash on Matt. Nick broke up the cover just before three. The Bucks landed their signature driver on Reed for the win.
WINNERS: The Young Bucks in 14:00 to earn no. 1 contendership.
-FTR came out afterward to their music. Cash wheeled Stokely Hathaway in his wheelchair to ringside. Excalibur called these two teams “generational rivals.” Dax said they have been successful everywhere they went, whereas the Bucks needed to start their own company to be successful. Dax asked if that bothers them. Matt said it doesn’t and then superkicked Dax. Nick superkicked Cash. “Thank god for that,” said Schiavone. The Bucks held the belts and then went after Stokely at ringside. Stokely acted friendly toward him. The Bucks teased superkicking him, but hten walked away, leaving Stokely scared but unharmed.
-A video feature aired on Will Ospreay speaking about his mindset after surgery and his relief that he can wrestle again. He asked, “Can I be the same?” He said he’ll answer everyone’s question when he returns. [c]
-A video package hyped MJF vs. Brody King taking place Saturday at AEW Grand Slam Australia. MJF said if it wasn’t for “that crooked Cowboy, you wouldn’t have had a prayer.” Brody said he did exactly what he said he was going to do.” He said many would consider that the biggest win of his career, and it’s true, but it will be replaced by winning the AEW World Title on Saturday. MJF yelled that he’s going to make Brody “my bitch.” (Reset the Bitch-o-Meter.)
-Thekla’s ring entrance took place.
[OVERRUN]
(5) KRIS STATLANDER vs. THEKLA – Strap match for the AEW Women’s World Title
Statlander’s ring entrance aired. The bell rang 2 minutes into the hour. Thekla got in a stretch of offense, mostly whipping Statlander at ringside. They cut to a double-box break at 4:00. [c/db]
Statlander was bleeding from her forehead as Thekla continued her attack with the strap. Danielson said you have to track your relationship to the strap and not get tied up in the ring ropes. Thekla landed a Spider Suplex. Statlander fought back, covered in blood, by whipping Thekla as she hung upside down in the corner. Statlander took Thekla down with a lariat for a two count at 11:00.
They battled back and forth. Thekla spit in the face of Stat. Stat landed a Blue Thunder Bomb seconds later for a near fall. Stat delivered a tombstone piledriver. Sky Blue distracted the ref as Julia Hart entered. Stat fended her off and then whipped Blue. Thekla then speared Statlander and tied her hands behind her back with the strap. Then she stomped her head into the mat and scored a three count.
WINNER: Thekla in 12:00 to capture the AEW Women’s Title.
(The heels attacked Stat afterward. Alex Windsor and Jamie Hayter ran out and made the save with a hammer and a pipe in hand.)
