Pro Wrestling Drama heading to Fox

SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

Fox has picked up a pro wrestling-themed drama called “The Work,” reports Deadline.com. It’s unclear when the series will land on network television.

The drama was written by author Scott O’Connor, whose literary works include “Untouchable” and “Half World.” O’Connor also penned an article on Brock Lesnar around Summerslam that was published by the New York Times.

O’Connor focused on Lesnar trying to bring “legitimacy” to the staged world of pro wrestling, making jaded wrestling fans buy into something they believe is real.

One of O’Connor’s key lines in the article ties in with the title and likely theme of the Fox TV series:

“Lesnar’s performances give audiences that naïve but unusual pleasure of not always knowing the difference between the real and the fake, replenishing their capacity to be fooled, shocked, even – yes – conned.”

The pro wrestling-themed show comes at the same time Fox picked up “Warrior,” an MMA-themed drama. The show was originally bought by NBC, but was re-developed by Fox for future airing.
