SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

“King” Wade Barrett (Stu Bennett) announced his official departure from WWE on Friday.

WWE then included Barrett in their list of Friday releases.

Barrett has been off TV since being fictionally kicked out of the League of Nations after WrestleMania in early April.

Barrett said his contract was set to expire in June, but he and WWE management “reached an agreement to dissolve the contract a few weeks early.”

Barrett added that he decided last year not to re-sign with WWE once his contract came due in 2016. Around that time, Barrett began emphasizing his real name and “entertainment profile” through social media.

Barrett said he is now taking a “well-earned break from the wrestling industry in order to expand my horizons.”

Barrett said he will return to the ring “when the time is right.”
