SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

NXT LIVE EVENT
NOVEMBER 16, 2016
NEW YORK, N.Y. AT MSG THEATER
REPORT BY DAVID KEMPSTER, PWTORCH CORRESPONDENT

Attendance: Mostly full.

(1) No Way Jose pinned Roderick Strong.  Show started at 7:30; not sure when this match started, but it was over by 7:45. No Way Jose got a very strong reaction. I remembered Roderick from ROH quite well, but he seemed less well known by this crowd. Jose with the pin. Strong opening match, no pun intended.

(2) Payton Royce & Billie Kay defeated Daria & Liv Morgan when Payton pinned Daria in 8:00. Lots of extremely rude and offensive cheers from the group in back, with “Shut the F up” cheers going back at them.

(3) Oney Lorcan beat Elias Samson in 8:00. Oney With the pin. I assume Elias is a heel as he got a strong heel reaction. But he was “returning” on the NXT TV show this week and behaved like a heel, but the heel commentator didn’t like him.

A video package of DIY and Revival “backstage” aired hyping the match in Toronto and the main event tonight.

(4) TM61 beat Sanity in 9:00. TM61 were beat down by Sanity afterward. Tye Dillinger ran out for a save, and then Eric Young Challenged him for later. Dillinger said let’s go now, leading to…

(5) Tye Dillinger pinned Eric Young in 9;00.  Tye with the Pin. “Ten” chants were very loud and used for everything the rest of the night. My problem with this is this match was on the printed card, so to pretend it was an impromptu challenge didn’t work very well. But most people didn’t seem to have looked at the card.

Intermission

(6) Bobby Roode pinned Cedric Alexander in 15:00. The Glorious entrance is even more fun live and very over with the crowd.

(7) Asuka beat Niki Cross and Ember Moon in a Triple Threat match to retain the NXT Women’s Title. Asuka pinned Cross.

(8) DIY & Shinsuke Nakamura beat The Revival & Samoa Joe in 16:00 when Nakaura scored the pin on a member of The Revival. The crowd was very hot for this match and Nakamura is very over with the crowd.

NOTES: Shane McMahon was sitting in the front row and got a couple of chants through the night… I have been an on again, off again wrestling fan for years and this was my first live show Since Ring Of Honor Final Battle in 2008. I have just started watching NXT and WWE again in September. NXT feels the most like ROH did last time I stopped watching… Crowd was hot most of the night, with a section behind me with some stupid and annoying chants. One thing I have noticed is the “smart” fans have taken over. No more following the story line even in NXT where it is good and makes sense.
