WWE LIVE EVENT REPORT – SMACKDOWN BRAND
DECEMBER 30, 2016
MIAMI, FLA.
REPORT BY KYLE NIBLETT, PWTORCH CORRESPONDENT

The crowd was around 5,000. The upper bowl was curtained off and the lower bowl was 60 percent full. Mostly families. A lot of John Cena march among the crowd and it was obvious most of the kids were there to see him.

(1) American Alphas retained their titles in a tag team turmoil match that lasted around half an hour. Order of elimination:

(a) Breezango defeated Heath Slater & Rhyno after Fandango rolled up Rhyno after Breeze was hit with the Gore.

(b) Alphas eliminated Breezango with a Steiner Brothers bulldog from the top.

(c) Alphas eliminated the Vaudevillians when Jordan hit an Angle Slam on Aiden English.

(d) Alphas eliminated The Ascension when Gable pinned Victor after a rollover German suplex.

(e) Alphas eliminated The Usos via Grand Amplitude. Usos got the biggest reaction of all the tag team. At one point there were dueling “Let’s go Usos/Alphas” chants. Great false finishes in the last match.

(2) Alexa Bliss defeated Becky Lynch to retain the Smackdown Women’s Title thanks to a handful of tights. Becky got a good face reaction.

(3) James Ellsworth superkicked Curt Hawkins and pinned him in 11 seconds. No reaction for either. Crowd did enjoy the comedy aspect after two title matches.

(4) Baron Corbin pinned Kalisto after End of Days. Lucha is extremely over with the kids. Corbin was hated. Their basic match they do on every loop. Fun.

(5) Dolph Ziggler pinned The Miz in a wonderful 24-minute steel cage non-title match after Maryse accidentally slammed the cage door on her husband’s face and Ziggler nailed the IC champ with a superkick. Both men put in work and it showed. The crowd hated Miz. Very entertaining in an old-school type way.

Intermission

(6) Nikki Bella pinned Natalya after Carmelo interfered, Nikki threw Natalya into her and then hit a TKO for the win.

(7) The Wyatt Family (Wyatt, Orton & Harper) beat Apollo Crews, Jack Swagger and Mojo Rawley. Crowd chanted “We want Randy” when he was on the apron and “RKO” when he was in the match. Completely overshadowed the rest of the guys.

(8) A.J. Styles defeated Dean Ambrose and John Cena in a triple threat match to retain the WWE Championship in 19 minutes. Styles brought a chair in the ring and nailed Cena. Ambrose kicked him and went for Dirty Deeds on the chair but Styles hit him low and pinned him with a small package. After the match Cena gave him the Attitude Adjustment to send the fans home happy.

FINAL THOUGHTS: The cage match and the triple threat were both great house show matches.
