NEWS ITEMS: Rey Mysterio to wrestle on New Japan U.S. event, Helms details his Rumble appearance, big Jerry Lawler announcement

-Jerry Lawler announced on Kevin Cerrito’s “Cerrito Live” on Sports 560 that he is bringing Memphis Wrestling back to Saturday mornings on Channel 30 in Memphis. “Hopefully starting in April, the plan is for the show to go live every week with a new show every week Saturday mornings at 11 o’clock. The old tried and true for Memphis Wrestling!” LISTEN HERE

-Rey Mysterio will face Jushin Liger at at the Long Beach, Calif. event on March 25. He issued a video challenge at the New Japan event in Osaka,, Japan. Rey Mysterio most recently appeared at WWE’s Royal Rumble event in the Rumble match. He has said he is interested in doing more with WWE, but this points to nothing being imminent in that regard.

-Hurricane Helms talked with longtime wrestling columnist and former WWE Creative Team member Kevin Eck about his surprise Royal Rumble appearance in his latest column for Sporting News. “That reaction kind of caught me off guard,” Helms said. “I had never worn that cape in WWE. That cape is kind of inspired by Randy Savage. I have it hooked to my wrist so that I have a full wing span. I planned to spin around in a full circle and let everybody see the whole cape and everything, but I couldn’t hear my music anymore. I heard ‘Stand back,’ and the crowd was so loud that I couldn’t hear my music. I thought they cut it off. In my mind, if they cut it off, that means I have to get my ass in the ring. So that’s why I cut my entrance short.” He gives more details on how the Rumble appearance came about, plus he talks about the layout of the match and the idea for John Cena to eliminate him.
