SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

The following is the latest in a new series of weekly in-depth articles exclusive to PWTorch which will help put in perspective major wrestling promotions with a weekly overview, looking at news and roster developments, results, future line-ups, social media activity, key interviews, plus a timely commentary at the end. We will be featuring similar features on other promotions each week and each will be updated weekly.

•Top Stories of the Week

  • NXT superstar Nikki Cross made her main roster debut Tuesday on Smackdown Live and lost to Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch.  I believe this was a quick one off because they were taping in Nikki’s hometown, but I hope this means more Nikki on Tuesdays going forward.  Also hoping this means more TV time for her forgotten stable mates Sanity.
  • NXT General Manager William Regal finally made the NXT Women’s Championship match for Takeover WarGames official.  It’ll be Baszler vs. Sane III in a two-out-of-three falls match for Baszler’s NXT Women’s Championship.  This match is honestly a toss up and I have to believe that whoever loses might be showing up on Raw/Smackdown in the very near future.

•NXT in the media

  • Former NXT Champion Kevin Owens did an interview on Inside the Ropes this week (LINK) and had some very interesting comments.  He wondered out loud if his segment earlier this year where he headbutted Vince McMahon was the best it was going to get for him in WWE.  “Sometimes I wonder if this is as good as it gets for me,” he said. “I hope not and I don’t plan on it being that way, but it’s gonna be hard to top.”  God I hope he’s wrong!

UpUpDownDown is fantastic.  If you’ve ever played a video game, I strongly recommend it!

•Thoughts and Comments

  • Leave it to NXT to continually showcase different tag teams every week and make each of them look like an eventual title contender.  This week it was Heavy Machinery’s turn.  They scored an impressive win over the Forgotten Sons (while being praised by the announce table the entire match) and got  some love on the WWE NXT Instragram page HERE.  How does NXT do this when they have one hour a week, yet the main roster can’t accomplish the same with five hours? Boggles my mind…
  • Cageside Seats columnist Sean Rueter wrong an excellent column this week and I could not agree more.  We just saw this match two weeks ago at Evolution.  Takeover WarGames would have been a perfect time for the blow off match between Cross and Belair or maybe work a Belair vs, Yim vs. LeRae vs. Nikki Cross four-way… something.  I’m sure Baszler vs. Sane III will be great, but they could have used some time off.
  • Please don’t let Lars interfere in this NXT Championship match… Lars is totally going to interfere isn’t he?
  • The current Takeover WarGames card sits at four matches and I still think there’s room for one more.  Matt Riddle is special and special NXT talents fight at Takeovers.  I wish they would have waited to debut him at WarGames a la Shinsuke and have him and Kassius Ohno attempt to steal the show.
