NXT ON USA PRIMER
OCTOBER 30, 2019
WINTER PARK, FLA. AT FULL SAIL

Finn Balor has already left a lasting impression in NXT as he brutalized Johnny Gargano in a shocking attack. What will the fallout be from Balor’s attack? History will be made as the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship will be defended on NXT as Tegan Nox and Dakota Kai will challenge the current champions The Kabuki Warriors. Plus, Candice LeRae and Io Shirai will clash in a rematch from their instant classic at NXT TakeOver: Toronto. NXT will air live from Full Sail University on the USA Network as Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuiness and Beth Phoenix will call the action. Here’s what currently advertised for tonight’s show.

  • Will Finn Balor explain his actions?
  • Tegan Nox & Dakota Kai challenge WWE Women Tag Team Champions The Kabuki Warriors
  • Tyler Bate goes one-on-one with Cameron Grimes
  • Candice LeRae and Io Shirai renew their rivalry

Will Finn Balor explain his actions?

Finn Balor returned to NXT only to turn his back on the fans as he brutalized Johnny Gargano while leaving Tommaso Ciampa to get demolished as the hands of The Undisputed Era. Will Balor explain his actions from this past week and where does this lead with WarGames approaching.

(Amin’s Analysis: I expected Balor would turn heel at some point to help refreshen his character and move completely away from how he was portrayed on RAW and SmackDown. I didn’t expect the turn to come this quickly but was done perfectly. It will be interesting to see where this leads long term to see if Balor joins the Undisputed ERA or forms his own club. For now this looks to building to a WarGames match with Ciampa and Gargano looking for allies to combat the Undisputed Era.)

Tegan Nox & Dakota Kai challenge WWE Women Tag Team Champions The Kabuki Warriors

History will be made as the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles will be defended in NXT for the first time as Tegan Nox and Dakota Kai will challenge the current champions The Kabuki Warriors. After defeating Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir, Asuka and Kairi Sane appeared and claimed Kai and Nox have no chance. The question is will Nox and Kai prove the Kabuki Warriors wrong and bring the titles to NXT?

(Amin’s Analysis: I expect this to be a good match and it will be fun to see Asuka and Kairi back in NXT. Although, The Kabuki Warriors are playing heels on RAW, I wouldn’t be surprised if Asuka and Sane get big babyface reactions their return as they are two of NXT’s most beloved champions. Side note, at some point during the show I would like to see Asuka, Kairi and Shirai has some sort of interaction since they are all on the show and are playing heels.)

Tyler Bate goes one-on-one with Cameron Grimes

Tyler Bate was at ringside for last week’s terrific battle between Cameron Grimes and Matt Riddle. After coming up short on the losing end, Grimes refused a fist bump from the original bro and ended up shoving Bate aside. The inaugural WWE United Kingdom Champion responded by decking Grimes with a left hook. Grimes will seek retribution as he faces Bate in single’s competition tonight on NXT.

(Amin’s Analysis: This should be a great match as Bate is one of the most talented wrestlers in WWE. This is another great opportunity for Grimes coming off his showcase match against Riddle. A win for Grimes would be good as it would come against a former champion and position him in the upper level of the NXT Breakout Tournament stars.)

Candice LeRae and Io Shirai renew their rivalry

Last week Io Shirai got involved in the Bianca BeLair and Rhea Ripley match the Genius of the Sky was stopped by Candice LeRae. At NXT Takeover: Toronto LeRae and Shirai had the fans on the edge of their seats. The two rivalries will clash this week on NXT. The question is will Shirai continue to prove that no one is worthy to stand next to her or will LeRae even the score?

(Amin’s Analysis: I was at Takeover: Toronto and I saw Io Shirai and Candice LeRae deliver my favourite match of SummerSlam weekend. I expect LeRae and Shirai to once again deliver another classic and show why NXT has the best Women’s division. I wouldn’t be surprised if if Ripley gets involved as they are leading to a match with Shirai. Side note, with music sensation Poppy teasing she might be at NXT, it would be awesome to see her performance live for my favourite wrestler Io Shirai and showcase her as the top star in the Women’s division without the title for the time being.)

The Big Takeaway from last week’s show

Finn Balor turned heel in one of the biggest NXT angles in quite some time. Roderick Strong defeated Dominik Dijakovic and Keith Lee in a terrific match to retain the NXT North American Title. Candice LeRae and Io Shirai got involved in the Bianca BeLair and Rhea Ripley match as they continue to tease a Women’s WarGames match.

FINAL THOUGHTS…

The Wednesday Night Wars are the most exciting times for wrestling fans as the emergence of AEW has made NXT a must-watch show. NXT has been delivering high quality wrestling matches that you don’t see on Raw and Smackdown. The addition of Balor, NXT UK, and 205 Live stars have added freshness to the show. With NXT Takeover: War Games coming up I expect to see more big angles on the show and big matches to be announced in the coming weeks.
