For Lee Moriarty, wrestling C.M. Punk in AEW was a surreal experience. In an interview on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Moriarty spoke about squaring off against Punk and Bryan Danielson within his short tenure in the company.

“That time last year, even this time last year, C.M. Punk was not in wrestling,” Moriarty said. “He was gone. So the idea that I wrestled his eighth match back in professional wrestling is very surreal and a very cool moment.” Moriarty indicated that he still physically feels the toll the match with Danielson took on him. “It was everything I had hoped for and expected,” Moriarty said of wrestling Danielson. “I still have bruises on my body from the match, and I mean I’m cool with it just because how much fun it is.”

Lee Moriarty made his AEW debut on AEW Dark in August of 2021. In October of 2021, he officially signed a contract with the company. In addition to his work in AEW, Moriarty is a notable act on the independent wrestling circuit with time spent in promotions like GCW, PWG, Pro Wrestling eXpress, and more.

Punk and Danielson both joined AEW in the summer of 2021. Punk made his in-ring return to wrestling at All Out in September and Danielson made his AEW debut at the end of the main event on the same show.

Most recently, Punk wrestled MJF and Danielson squared off against Jon Moxley at the AEW Revolution PPV. Moriarty last wrestled on AEW Dynamite against Danielson. He secured victories over Anthony Henry and Joey Janela this year on AEW Dark. Moriarty also defeated Josh Woods at the first-ever Terminus show. Moriarty is not currently booked for any AEW matches.
